I actually like Dark Pit from Uprising, but regardless of how little effort he took to make, he is just a lame addition on paper. Even Dark Samus offers a more interesting take on the base design. He was hidden because they knew he'd have a negative response and I can prove it scientifically. He was present in both Palutena's trailer and on Palutena's official art for the game. You know what other echo had a similar privilege? Lucina was in Robin's trailer and got to be featured in Robin's official art. Lucina got a splash page and gameplay because the character was actually well liked and fans could see why she'd make it in for reasons other than favoritism on the director's part. Dark Pit easily could have gotten a splash page and a blurb of gameplay closing out Palutena's trailer and half the controversy would have been mitigated.

People like to mock others for changing their opinions on clones after the echo rebranding, but they really were handled horribly up to that point. They were always swept under the rug like a mark of shame. People don't want to buy a game with the promise of more surprises and end up getting reskinned move sets. All they ever needed to do was be upfront about it.

The arguments attempting to defend them are so terrible that I'm still convinced they were the worst smash pick ever.

If anything, FE-fags are the ones who dislike Corrin the most. Wanting a character from this series at all is enough to put you in hot water in roster discussion, and Nintendo spends a FE newcomer on this shit no one asked for.

And it gets even worse if you even played his games. Not only is he FE's own Kira Yamato, but nothing about his inclusion in Smash feels like it genuinely came from Fates at all. In fact, Corrin as a whole just doesn't seem to fit into the games' bigger picture outside his role as the child between two royal families. There's this big chapter about him turning into a dragon for the first time, and then this is completely dropped immediately afterward and never becomes relevant to any of the plots again. It's all the more hilarious in Conquest considering nobody from that family was at all present for said dragon transformation chapter, and then Corrin fucks off back to them and is regularly shapeshifting now and absolutely nobody is batting an eye at this. And this is all on top of how Corrin doesn't even do the shit he does in Smash outside of like, two instances. (One scene before said transformation chapter to attempt to foreshadow it or something, and the other in his Dragon Fang skill animation)

All of this culminates in Corrin feeling more like a function who was developed for Smash first, and then tacked into the newest Fire Emblem game after its plot and scenarios had already been mostly developed. All for the sake of bringing more attention to this shittily developed mess that was split into multiple purchases for no good reasons other than more money.

Sakurai clearly carries forward content from his previous games. She is also the titular character of Kid Icarus in Japan and for some reason Sakurai seems to consider that important (thus Zelda getting 2 freaking unique movesets in Melee, while Ganondorf only made it as a last minute clone reusing a model from an unrelated demo)

Warriors going barefoot even in full battle gear isn't unheard of. For example in an area I like Greek hoplites are almost always depicted as being barefoot. Even with their battle gear on, it's not unreasonable to assume they went into battle barefoot since the human foot can be pretty resilient. And Corrin is some sort of dragon creature I think.

Robin and Lucina's also came out several years before 3ds/Wii U, it's only Roy and Corrin who were released alongside their games (in Corrin's case the game was out in Japan already too though, the localization just took almost a year).

Also, it's clear at this point that Sakurai gets development material from some developers but not from all of them. Roy was added based on development material rather than any kind of finished version of his game and he got material for Greninja even before it had a name.

On the other hand, the Mario content in Smash before Ultimate was always outdated for example (No Galaxy content in Brawl, no 3d World content in Wii U).

Originally, Corrin's armor was meant to be tied to their dragon powers and no feet armor was tied to a mechanic where they connect to the land to use great powers in the game. However, in the final game the armor isn't actually related to the dragon powers at all, so it just remained a design relic.

I'm going to look back and laugh at this thread if Sakurai once again falls back on his word and pulls another "Everyone is Here" in Smash 6

Dark Samus is the worst offender of "this moveset doesn't actually fit this character" out of all the echoes though, on top of being one of the echoes that has no meaningful mechanical difference AND not actually being a "character" (by which I mean Dark Samus isn't a character per se, she's just a Metroid hyper-mutated by phazon that becomes the embodiment of phazon itself).

She's literally only in Smash to have a little more Metroid (which I'm thankful for). And even then it's kind of weird because some of her unique animations aren't references to her own actions but to other entities like her (SA-X namely) AND her fucking theme from Prime 2 and 3 isn't in the Metroid song list for some reason????

Dark Pit at least has an actual personality that some people like, a different Final Smash to Pit that fits his use of the sniper weapon and his own theme is in Ultimate.

The original Smash Bros started development in 98, so Mario 64 was already out. The issue with the more recent titles is that they generally have 3 years of development, which ends up clashing with the release schedule of games by the time it's out since Sakurai plans the most relevant parts like unique characters and stages from the beginning of development.

Smash is really bad at showing the personality of characters who need to talk to show it though, and the entire Uprising crew suffers from that. I really doubt people who just saw Dark Pit through Smash would even get his personality.

Dark Samus on the other hand, with those creepy twitchy animations shows a lot of personality even without saying a single word. You do get the impression of a "contained monster" just looking at her move.

What about Melee then? That was one of the first GameCube games, so it couldn't draw inspiration for anything in terms of character designs or stages. Only thing it had were some trophies from early GCN games like Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Cubivore and Wave Race Blue Storm,
