Kojima has a good sense for detail and game direction but I think everything he writes we thought was good was probably owed to both his co writer, and translators.
Reading the stuff he says now, it's like he's some disneyland asian tourist who only just figured out tv shows like the wire or whatever exist. His English probably doesn't help, but I tolerated the guys wacky antics when he wasn't as big on social media.

Why does nobody ever seem to remember how Snake slowly fell in love with Meryl over the course of the game. MGS2 makes sense if you assume Meryl died and Snake escaped with Otacon. Which it arguably hints at considering she's entirely absent aside from Snake mumbling her name when he's sleeping (alongside Liquid).
Snake being too busy to focus on Meryl goes entirely against the ending of 1.

I thought the whole point of MGS1 and 2 was that regardless of your genetic background and memetic upbringing you have it in you to take what is yours and define your own human experienced based on it.

The thing about creators is that the moment they create something, they were in a certain specific moment in their life, with unique circumstances of that moment, he is essentially one person, while now (or just later), the person had new experiences, faced old demons, created new ones, changed their scene and their relations, they are eseentially ANOTHER PERSON.
So in a way, when authors go and make this ridiculous propositions years later of an old classic of his, you cant and shouldnt trust what they are saying, as they are not the same person from before, and are simply adapting what they feel about the work NOW as if that was the truth BEFORE, similar to a retcon. You can only trust an author's opinion about their own piece when the iron is hot, at the moment, before the success and fame change their life and themselves.
