I don't have a problem with them in fantasy settings. But it starts to get on my nerves in more realistic settings. Yes, I realize there was some outliers. But they were far from the norm, and that's what I think should be focused on in a historic setting to make it more immersive unless there is a specific reason to introduce a female knight / warrior, or the focus is on a specific person from history.

I mean, if in setting it is acceptable for pink bears to shoot lasers from the big heart shaped cannons on their chests, then its internally consistent to do that. But its not authentic. It doesn't feel plausible, like it could be real in some parallel universe where things are slightly different.
On the other hand, wizard powers are very inconsistent in Lord of the Rings, but it does feel more authentic. Its easier to compare to reality.
So its not just internal consistency I'm talking about, this sense of authenticity is something else. It 'is the difference between a dragon being some isolated species of dinosaur that eats plants to produce methane and hoards gold to create sparks in its mouth and thus breathe fire so it can cook food for more calories, and the light gas helping it fly, etc; compared to a dragon being an unexplained magical creature that lives in your basement and helps you do your homework and get that girl you like to the prom. Both are not real, and thus not "realistic", but one is easily "more realistic". Also easy to do this kind of mental gymnastics with vampires, for example. Not real, but you can have more or less realistic vampires.
So if you have the english vocabulary to put this in 2 words, tell me.

It's a decently realistic setting. They have magic and mythical creatures, but other than that it's very similar to our own universe, and people behave like real people would in such situations.

I am a pretty big Medievalfag and I don't mine women being Knights. But I legitimately need a good reason for them to be Knights and I at least need the character interaction to be more realistic (like the Male Knights being shocked and accusing her for Heresy like it happened with Joan d'Arc), or having her be in a mercenary band because that would be way more justifiable.
It's fucking retarded to just put a female Knight in that setting without any rhyme or reason.
Fantasy-Medieval Female Knights are alright tho. But if it's gritty Dark Fantasy the same rules apply. Berserk did it well with Casca, seeing as she joined a mercenary band and had a connection with its leader and often hid the fact she was a Women which her opponents often mocked her for.

It depends on how thick the shield is for how heavy. That one could weigh as little as 5 pounds. And why have a shield when you have armor? Because it is better to intercept whatever weapon is coming at you before it actually hits your armor so you can set up an accurate counter or unbalance your opponent, numb nuts. Knights in full plate did use bucklers and shields at times, especially when facing an opponent with a halberd or mace.
The holes on the shield are irrelevant if it is not meant to go in a shield wall. They just offer opportunity to catch the opponent's weapon and forcefully turn it away, which again opens up the possibility for an accurate counter attack to less armored areas, or to unbalance the opponent and possibly set them up for an easy throw to the ground.
Seriously, the shield is less of a problem in that picture than the fact that it is a female in that much armor, and that she has her swords on her back.

In a group melee there is the crushing press and people trying to kill you however they can. In a duel there are rules of acceptable combatant behavior. Add on the chivalry aspect that a more formal setting is going to trigger in the male, and the female being able to get in a surprise stab is expected.
