Why Arrow Legion hit rush? I see a lot of people talk it up, but I never found much use for it, since it does so little damage.
You can keep your chain up between sections if you’re fast.
I think he's specifically talking about having lots of damage numbers fill up the screen more than anything else.
I think Arrow Hit Rush with a Slow Attack setup has some utility, but it pales in comparison to the same setup being used on Beast or Arm. Arrow's best used with big damage boosts to leverage its amazing perfect dodge and call sync attacks, and with Call Lock to let you quickly and repeatedly snipe high-value or low-HP targets.
Individual hits are weak, but there is a ridiculous amount of them.
The ranged nature of it makes it very reliable.
You want your arrow legion to have either max critical damage, or max slow attack. The hit rush has great synergy with both builds.

This is something that was bothering me too. I really don't like how the combat looks so I was hoping to see some combo videos that might actually make the combat seem fun but they've yet to appear.
It's the same feeling you get from their other games, you have slightly less individual tools but you're controlling two or three things at once.

There's also the fact that combat score = experience. Good players rank up much faster than bad ones.
There can also be a huge difference between good players. Getting S+ with 15,000 points means you are getting 50% more exp than someone getting S+ with 10,000 points.
There is also the possibility that some people aren't claiming their order rewards and are missing out on a lot of upgrade materials.

It’s not really a combo-based game. The “combos” are chaining crowd control. They’re cool, but it’s not going to be super jank-flashy.
It's a great game. They created a really interesting world and there's way more gameplay variety than just combat, you spent a lot of time exploring, investigating and platforming. It feels like a really rounded-out package.

Use all of the tools at your disposal and finish fights as quickly as possible. Astral Chain works on a totally different point system from other Platinum games. There is no style, there is only variety and efficiency. Not getting hit gets you a nice bonus but for 99% of fights finishing quickly is way, WAY more valuable.

Just got through the main campaign, is a there a decent guide anywhere on how to get all the unlockable stuff?
Start abusing the hit rush and speed star abilities. Hit rush allows you to use other legions while one keeps attacking the enemy. A good early strategy is to spam hit rush with arrow legion, while using the sword legion to attack normally. You can also spam hit rush with sword while manually sniping enemies with arrow.
Ranks are purely based on score. Outside of a few special occasions, scoring higher than 10,000 will get you an S+.

Know this. The character you play as is a blank slate but super customizable. The other sibilng will always be called Akira get an actual personality all the voiced dialgues and character development but are not customizable.

like, christ, i'm saying this as a fan of AC, the stealth is a non-mechanic, basically all that matters is their shitty line of sight cone which wobbles all over the screen epileptically and is not even a reliable indicator of whether you will be seen or not. sometimes pulling out your legion will alert them, sometimes it won't, sometimes you'll be right behind them and get a prompt, sometimes you won't. it's not fleshed out in any way. it's the kind of stealth someone would make having only played mgs2 for fifteen minutes on tanker

you probably went in expecting a dodge button that actually rewards you for dodging. dodging in astral chain has like a fifty/fifty chance of just flinging you into the path of another enemy's attack.
Because you can easily change hairstyle and hair color, but not eye color and skin color (which the twin does copy). Just assume that at some point after that photo was taken, the MC decided to change their haircolor and hairstyle.

The way I see it, the character's early insecurities seem to result from a lack of power, which I think of as an inherently more masculine problem (ie he wants to protect his sister to be the man of the family now that his dad's gone, but his sister ends up protecting him instead)

The way Akira acts is more typical of an edgy male teenager and only women who have an "anything you can do, I can do better" way of thinking could actually fit that role, but no one pays any real attention to them so it's probably better suited to a male in order for it to have an actual impact. That being said, I play as the male anyway because I want to.
The only reason it isn't that way is because customization predates the story.

Don't brute force your way through the game, you get better scores by styling on enemies.
Be faster and do more stuff. The s+ threshold is 10k points.
i wouldn't worry about getting high scores until you get all of the legions.
Once you get axe S+'s are easy pz with things like Blue Shield and Auto Bind.
Use all the legions, all the combos, all the moves, this game ranks you for how varied your fighting style is.
Do lots of blue flashies
Oh, and to add to this, some red cases aren't even accessible until you actually get ALL of the legions anyway so dont sweat getting a rank below S+.

use everything you can pretty much. Fast times and no damage help, but I S+'s the final boss first try despite the fact that it ate through like 4 of my revive batteries and did not feel like I earned it at all. Getting S+ on straightforward combat segments is pretty easy honestly, its the gimmick ones that'll fuck you up

Stop telling people to spam chain binds, you can only do 2 on an enemy before they're immune and only the first time will let you finish an entire chain bind sync combo.

Use a variety of moves/legions/skills(legion and/or personal)/bind up enemies/counters/sync skills/just be a flashy mother fucker
Personally I try to always go for backstabs legion skills binding and different legions as the situation calls
I generally get S+ rank all the time unless i am getting my ass handed to me and even if i lose a life itll still give me S+ on some occasions
Remember you are rewarded with score for using consumables and healing items
What isnt rewarded is using the same thing over and over again because once you achieve that score for an action like backstabbing you dont receive it again so mixing it up is the sure fire way of getting S+
So is it ultimately worth it or should I get the Bayonetta double pack

Run and dodge away, only counter attack from perfect dodge on his last hit. The spin kick destroys him. It’s pretty that way, even on Pt Ultimate.
7 was short and sweet which is honestly Platinum's strong point. I felt most of the other files overstayed their welcome by just a bit, but 7 and 11 were great. 11 felt like a true and proper final level that had just the right amount of everything going for it

You have to do both, you can’t get hit and you have to kill everything fast.

Is the Sword Legion the best for DPS on this section? I've been using it alongside Axe Legion but it seems I can get more consistent slowdowns on enemies with sword.
Also, should I spam the "send Legion" button as fast as I can or should I time it correctly to perform that little spin attack Sword does?
I find Sword is better because it actually attacks faster. Axe does more damage but goes through a little animation before swinging. Also I found spamming the Legion button worked better. Slow attack doesn't seem to proc if the enemy is already slowed down so the spin doesn't really help, spamming the button and getting one attack off with each press ended up working better for me.
I found Arrow with Attack Up abilities was by far the best. Also it doesn’t stay out very long, so you don’t have to worry about your Legion getting hit on Ultimate.

Never had that issue even when only getting Beast out while like a meter away from it and that's despite having to redo the fight like 10 times. It still caught be off guard a few times where I reacted too slowly or accidentally chose Arm instead. But yeah, I think you did it wrong if dodging with Beast didn't allow you to get away from it no matter how close you were retard.

To be honest I didn't even know he had 0KO attacks and the black hole move is a slow as fuck attack that you can see miles away. Also, Arm Legions have the same move so at that point you should naturally wipe out Beast Legion and run away. In fact, you should bring out Beast almost everytime you want to evade since it's much more effective than dodging. I bet you faggots play this game like if it was Bayonetta.

there are dig spots which are hidden and you have to keep holding ZR for your Beast Legion to find them out
it's probably for the better to dig out the visible dig spots first though
It's basically just luck. I'm pretty sure the pieces are always in the same locations so just find them piece by piece and quit out of the puzzle before you run out of time, putting together a route that covers as many as possible. The saving grace of file 8 is that you can quit out of most of the minigame cases.

I think it was good that this game has investigations and side quests that give you more of a role as a police officer.
I just didn't enjoy 90% of them because they're more braindead than old Zelda puzzles. I can see where Kamiya's supervision came into play when designing these combat/legion abilities that you also use outside of battle to interact with the world. The problem is that there's almost always just ONE solution to each puzzle and they spell it out for you every single time. They always tell you which legion you should be using instead of letting you experiment and solve things on your own. If you're just going to tell me the anwser, then your puzzles are just a waste of time.
So in the next game, I hope investigations are back. But I hope it's more subtle and lets you experiment more. It would be nice if the game didn't force you to talk to npcs for clues/sidequests, but you could notice that there's something wrong with someone and choose to ask what their problem is. I know this would make trying to 100% a chapter on the first try more difficult, but I think it would pull you into the world/role more than just looking for blue dots on your map and going down a video game checklist.
All I want out of the sequel is the ability to use those frog gel chimeras instead of the boring normal Legions.

Unironically git gud. If you're dodging multiple times in a row you have to dodge away from the enemy's attack, not towards or through them. And not all perfect dodge sync attacks have invulnerability (just arm and doggo), you have to decide when to use them.
The game has a variety of defensive options and you have to actually think about which one to use depending on the situation and which legion you have equipped.

Why do the gyro controls suck so much guys? There's a lot of settings in the game; I'm surprised they didn't include a way to change the sensitivity on the gyro. I would use arrow legion way more and those box missions would be more tolerable.

But Beast and Axe feel very vestigial to the gameplay. I only bring out Beast when it's needed for its sniffing bullshit because it being the only grounded legion fucks with how I set things up a lot. Axe just feels so incredibly slow to position.

You don't position Axe, you send it out and let it do its single attack, then call it back, rinse and repeat. Axe does crazy AoE damage, especially with one of its later skills.
Beast is kind of bad, but I think he plays really well as a CC machine. Stack Slow Attack on him because his Send-Out attack does like 5 hits per second and you can lock down enemies pretty easily. Could also stack cooldown for more Howl.
I keep meaning to do a writeup of each Legion, but they all play really distinctly to different strengths and weaknesses. Beast is the kind of Legion where YOU have to do most of the attacking, and the sync attacks aren't great. You want to be positioned behind the enemy with your Gladius or Baton while Beast keeps them occupied with stuns and other CC. The endgame would be like 10% slow attack and 200% crit damage so you can slow an enemy with the buzzsaw, run behind them, re-position the buzzsaw at their back, and shred their health bar.

The secret to Beast is that the electrified chain move does absolutely insane damage. The sync attacks are decent ranged options, but perfect dodge sync attack is fully invincible.
