business laptops for work = good
ultralight laptops for travel = good
overpriced gaymur garbage to roast your testicles as it thermal clocks itself down for the whole two hours of battery life = bad

Because you pay more for less.

because it's a pre-built and building your own is problematic

Because we have nowhere to go and it's pretty dumb to buy a laptop that you're only going to use in one place.

because no one here has a job and the only laptops you come into contact with are EBIC GAMER LABTOPs

>point of laptops is portability
>2hour battery life
>1 hour playing games
>forget R&D on battery life the biggest bottle neck
>we need more gamer leds and mechanical clanky clacks
??????????

Where's her cock?

I don't.

I don't see the point in building a pc when I have to go to uni and housing isn't necessarily permenant. It's also generally better when I need to go abroad, or somewhere else in the country.

With a laptop I can just pick it up and go anywhere but with a pc I have to disassemble it and call in favours because I'm carless.

I also don't care about it looking a bit autistic because it's not like I'm pulling that shit out in a public setting.

But what's the best budget business/travel laptop?

no cock

based
cringe

Is there anything more badass than this?

Is gaming on a laptop viable if I'm happy to drop settings and just care about hitting screen res & a solid framerate?

If you just want to enjoy the game without being a total autist like these people with their 60 fps and ultra 4K resolution shit then yeah mate.

W530 here, I love laptops.
They're just suboptimal for gaming.

X230

here's you're gaming laptop bro

Yeah, games with shit optimization might give you trouble though.
Keep in mind some versions of Laptop GPUs are gimped compared to the normal versions

>some
you mean all of them, it's required to use less power

If i really needed something portable to play games on i'd just buy a normal buisness laptop and and external gpu.

Many people had bad experience with "gaming" laptops since they're usually made with low quality parts and sold at a huge markup. That's is compounded with the high thermal stress caused by the crappy cooling system. You can't upgrade the CPU or GPU since they're soldered in. You're also paying as much as a Mac, but still stuck with Windows.

Just use a desktop for games, and a loptop for ricing on

Bad thermals
Stupid case design that makes the poor think throttle
All nvidia Intel garbage

This, now that I'm graduated and settled Im looking to build but my labtop was a godsend throughout college

There are two types

People who ridicule people because they know it will stigmatise buying a gaming laptop and thats what they want because its a terrible investment if you dont already have a gaming pc

and

people too poor to afford a gaming laptop and/or desktop

Laptops are comfy at a premium cost. I love the portability but the economic choice is building a PC for sure. Not a good idea for poor fags who want the biggest bang for their buck, good idea for rich chads or enthusiasts.

Are there any downsides to that?

>Gaming Laptop Pros:
-Able to be moved easily from one place to another
-Screen, keyboard, and mouse all contained in one unit
-More power efficient
-Can fit on a smaller desk
-Built-in UPS (battery) so power outages don't fuck your shit up
>Gaming Laptop Cons:
-Significantly more expensive per performance than a desktop
-Typically cannot be upgraded apart from RAM and storage

Modern Gaming laptops are fantastic in terms of performance, modern laptop parts are identical to desktop parts for the most part, at least on the high-end. I think the only difference between an HQ series Core i7 and a K series Core i7 is slightly lower turbo clocks. Thermals are also fine on gaming laptops

>he doesn't have a UPS for his desktop too

>he lives somewhere where power outages are a concern

>He doesn't plug his desktop into a UPS with a Surge Protector AND a power conditioner to ensure only clean power is going into your precocious power supply

While long outages are never a concern, a short power outage for a second or so do happen now and then maybe like 2 or 3 times a year.

Even on a high power setup, a UPS is enough so this won't interrupt anything.

>he lives somewhere where short power outages are a concern

yes, it's actually a sign that it's a better place to live in

otherwise you're probably in the middle of a city covered in smog

>a short power outage for a second or so do happen now and then maybe like 2 or 3 times a year.
Jesus where do you live my guy? Even here in California in the worst heatwaves shit like this is unheard of. Power outages maybe occur once every 18 months at most and it's either because of routine maintenance or because some asshole crashed into an overhead line

I think they're stupid for most applications, but I guess they make sense if you're traveling constantly and still want to game. I'm working toward a career that's going to involve a lot of travel and hotel stays so I'll probably be in the market for one.

>bought a gaming laptop since i always wanted one
>fired up to play my favourite vidya outside
>do it one time, playing on a dirty park bench
>play gta v for 60 minutes
>battery only 15% left while bugs start to crawl over me and some suspicious looking drug niggers start to eye me
>never went outside with my laptop again
>visiting a friend of mine
>"hey user, bring your laptop so we can play games local like old times"
>bring laptop
>end up watching netflix, drinking beer and talking about shit
>laptop remains in my backpack the whole time.
>tfw finally got the money to afford a gaming laptop but it's 12 years too late to actually enjoy it for what it is

I don't. I've played on an HP Omen 17 for some years now. AMA

>-Able to be moved easily from one place to another
I only play games at home
>Screen, keyboard, and mouse all contained in one unit
This is a bad thing.
>-Can fit on a smaller desk
I have a big desk
>-Built-in UPS (battery) so power outages don't fuck your shit up
I don't live in the third world, II haven't had a power cut for as long as I remember.

>Able to be moved easily from one place to another
Unless you get an Alienware GAYMEN XXXTREME with dual GPUs and it weighs 40lbs.
>Screen, keyboard, and mouse all contained in one unit
That's only a pro if the keyboard and mouse are good, which they usually aren't. To play games you're gonna want an external mouse and possibly keyboard.
>modern laptop parts are identical to desktop parts for the most part
On paper specs and real life performance are not the same. Laptops always get fucked by thermal throttling and age faster than desktop parts.
Other than that, well-reasoned post.

or you can just watch youtube on your phone
pretty much the same
