Come back when you play a Nomad.

real gamers played under the covers with a worm light

Buy a modded backlit gameboy advance with an IPS screen like I did.

Attached: file.png (794x529, 477K)

try an original GB and then tell me you fucking zoomer

I'm still sad that I had to experience GBA games with that thing instead of an SP. Even though I can just play them emulated on a PSP or my phone now.

fucking hell the memories...
advance wars anyone?

it's brighter than an SP

I see dozens of these on ebay but they all ship from China. Are those the ones I'm supposed to buy or are they fake?

search GameboyStation on Etsy.

Cheers.

I did. Got a Zelda SP with a screen as bright as the fucking sun. Also got a couple of GBA's with backlit on standby.

Can you use rechargeable AA batteries in the GBA?

I haven't tried myself but I can't see why not.

>not using GP Ultra

I don't know what to say, user, I don't know how I did it either. I should probably thank my mother for all the batteries she bought.

welcome to 2001 fucker
your parents are supposed to take it away from you if you play too much so battery life isn't a big issue really

I know there's a lot of young people here but yes jesus christ it's not like it's a different type of electric current or someshit

>many people on this board were born in 2001

Attached: pipe.jpg (512x512, 45K)

You're supposed to play it in the sunlight. Literally nothing comfier than playing game boy outside on a warm sunny day. Backlit screens can't give you that feel.

This thing was such a monumental pile of shit.

back then we didn't go on the internet to complain so we just dealt with it

Why dont you buy one of those retro handhelds that sell at around 30 dollars?

bro the GBA had a battery life of upwards 10-15 hours with the right batteries

are you implying that any parent would get their actual newborn baby without a functioning brain or limbs a GBA

Honestly I remember when this came out and a couple of my friends got them and even we were baffled by the lack of backlight. Even the Game Gear had it, so by GBA there was no reason not to, besides battery life.
I think if it did release with a backlight, then it would go down as one of the greatest handhelds in history.
The SP is good, but the GBA form factor is better than SP.

Attached: gameboy_color.jpg (640x439, 38K)

Where did he imply anything about a GBA. He is saying people born in 2001 turn 18 this year, and everyone knows you must be 18+ to use Yea Forums.

Retard buy gamgear, 10x better than cancer boy colour

>The SP is good, but the GBA form factor is better than SP
A shame about the Dpad though. It's too squishy on the standard GBA, SP has a nice clicky dpad that's far more precise.

I scratched the fuck out of mine and it was only in my pocket. I still have it but it changed to a more of a yellow color, ah well.

>throw pokeball

i just came to the realization after seeing this new gamepad, that i could never find a better gamepad with what i needed but a logitech.
but i hate their fucking d-pads. big round cirlce almost no feel for which direction your pushing. its been so long since i had something different ive went thorugh 2 rumblepads and 4 dual actions since i had a gamepad with a regular dpad that i forgot how much i liked the regular dpads. i used to i remember play emulators for gba and games like that that took timing and stuff a lot more back then but i quit. and i couldnt figure out why.
then i seen this new pad thats like a dual action but made by these other people and they were talkign about the dpad and saying how it was like the nes's.
which is exactly what i wanted, the nes type dpad with ps2 type buttons. no controll i seen had that. ps2 controller adapters never picke dup 90% of my games.
im excited to get one eventually pretty soon
I could not do mortal kombat or any of that stuff with that shitty dpad logitech had, or regular d-pad only games.

what are you saying? i dont know about anyone else, but the best kind of d-pad is one that jiggles a bit and has a fair amount of travel. the og gba has one of the best d-pads ive felt, especially after you break it in.

Wut

I've never liked it, this thread even made me test the difference between GBA vs SP as I have both just to be sure and I really don't like the GBA's Dpad. SP's Dpad just feels nicer and is way more responsive.

i like how chunky the og d-pad feels. youre right about the form factor though, with my adult sized hands i cant play it for more than an hour without hurting something in my hand.

>tfw GBA emulator on OLED Vita

Its a comfy feel lads

I have the Zelda SP somewhere and it was such a game changer to have backlight and a built in battery.

d-pad sucks on logitech usb controllers dual actions
i wanted a new joystick ages ago that had ps2-ish type buttons that i could use on my pc. got logitech rumblepad/dual actions
the d-pad fucking sucks.
sucks for nes console games, snes games, any mortal kombat, street fighter type games with key combos you got to pick
just everything that a d-pad is good for the controller sucks dick
couldnt find anything else.
missed out on tons of console game for my emulator or any thing that used d-pads better.
Found a new joystick that is out with a d-pad they even assocaited with being as good as the NES gamepad

Realized i wanted the nes d-pad gamepad the whole time and remembering how i used to before i switched to these shit god awful dpad logitechs how much i used to play gba games and stuff all the time and for some reason just couldnt get into them. while they were actually good games. instead left to play the "new" games that come out on pc now that suck.
remember good games cant play the good games
it doesnt hit me its the damn dpad i need but cant find on a joyustick with the ps2 type buttons. miss my games but dont realize its the dpad
found a good joystick with good dpad with ps2 button setup
relaize i can play old console games again
and i konw why.

>Buy a modded backlit gameboy advance

Fuck off. Just tell him to buy a GBAsp if he wants a backlight - don't dessecrate a pure system with your cheap Chinese mods. At least, not unless there's a damned good reason to - like piracy.

The IPS mod is very bright, makes the 101 and Micro look like the 001.

Highly recommend it.

I remember playing that one piece game

Most of us played our Gameboys outside. It was acceptable because we were all like 10 years old at most and it was a much better time

>want to get a GBA to play some games from it on OG hardware
>backlit modded originals cost €115+
>backlit SPs cost almost as much and need an adaptor for earphones
>micros are rare as fuck and cost a lot with worse battery life than the SP and poorer ergonomics in exchange for a nicer but tiny screen

FUCK

Some parents don't even know what game cartridges are but still buy their kids the handheld and leave them at that, just pressing buttons while it's off/main browser screen.

Just do what I did and buy an OG gba for $20 and install the screen yourself.

retromodding.com/collections/gameboy-advance/products/game-boy-advance-ips-lcd?variant=29455216181271

Does it negatively affect the battery life much?

Does the gameboy screen deteriorate over time or if left in shitty conditions? I literally can't see shit on mine anymore.

Your eyesight is going bad user, it's a sign you're getting old

If it does I don't notice it. It last me as long as I'm willing to play, but I also made mine rechargeable so I don't worry about swapping batteries anyways.

Attached: IMG_20190831_005911_compress54.jpg (2304x1728, 296K)

One last question, is that the one with the new amp board for the speakers the etsy guy advertises? If so, do you notice any difference in quality or is it just olume?

Cheers by the way for answering.

Is it easy to swap the innards into a new housing? I left mine on a bookshelf and it turned yellow

forgot pic

Clicky dpads are good, it's just that the SP's grip and the fact it's barely lifted off the surface of the system (unlike, say, the DS phat's dpad) makes it feel awkward to use.

Nah I put this one together myself. All I did was swap the screen and make it rechargeable. I believe the speaker mod is just louder volume, the GBA shitty sound has to do more so with how bit crunched gba games are. To be honest I don't know since I've yet to hear a speaker modded one in person.

Just get some retrobrite

Reminder that the GBA SP 001 is the superior model

>Not using Kirkland.

Attached: 1487102881345.png (354x378, 140K)

what's the best flashcart for the gba these days?

Everdrive X5

Does it break with some modded roms like the ez flash does?

Never got boktai to work on it with the solar sensor fix

>buying retro handhelds
This is some soi consumer shit

I haven't played on an original non SP GBA in well over a decade but as a kid I ALWAYS had one of those wormlight things.

Back in the early 2000s, we'd fucking deal with this and we'd like it.
Try sucking more dicks, semen is good for your eyesight.

This is correct.

I'm with you on that. Clicky dpads are best dpads.
The SP and DSphat had the best dpads ever.

Slightly offtopic but where am i supposed to buy second hand GBA/NDS games? There are some sellers shipping from china for 10$ a pop claiming they are mint condition but im not sure about them.

Generally all the cheap $10 ones are fake. The only safe way is to buy from a listing that shows an authentic board. That being said you can't actually sell reproduction/fake games on ebay. If you end up buying a fake game even if it's in the description you can open a ticket and win the case. Some sellers are too scared of losing their privileges and will flat out refund you the money and let you keep the cart if you dont open a ticket.

ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/fake-items-policy?id=4276

Left is fake, right is real. Authetic GBA games NEVER have a black blob on them.

Attached: YaQDRGv.jpg (2400x1800, 589K)

I have some rom hacks and fan made translations on mine and have no issues.

DS games are actually pretty tough to tell. You can technically open one up, but if it's real you'll end up ruining the game in the sense that you'd have to glue it back together. Only real way to tell without opening it is a shady looking label or the Nintendo logo on the back being slightly different, but that can be really difficult when buying online. For used games just stick to complete in box as that is harder to replicate rather than just the loose cart.

Nice, thanks user

Can you swap the DS Lite screen into the phat? That's literally its only drawback

come back when you play game boy pocket.

Thanks user

Understand that oldfags played through the struggle of this fumbling with batteries in the back of a car only using the light from streetlights to inch forward

Fag let your parents take your shit away holy shit, play a sport you fuck

I was floored recently by the discovery that GBA had a port of Alien Hominid, and not only that, but it's a near 1:1 port too. Then like OP I had to wonder how we played any of this shit with no backlight

youtube.com/watch?v=djd3yNQNM44

Do it yourself like I did because it's literally 2 solder points.

Attached: 20190914_134248.jpg (2560x1440, 971K)

You dumb niggers, we had worm lights or other variations since the gameboy color/pocket that even worked on the gameboy advances. I would never see a kid who didn't own one of these if they owned a gameboy and gameboy advance.

Attached: 1551923694037.jpg (500x375, 40K)

the glare of the light on the screen was just more distracting. actual chads paid the guys at their local chinese shopping center to install a backlight instead.

You're supposed to buy a backlit SP instead, you dumdum

Buying a solder gun for it would cost me the difference of getting it done dor me though

Soldering is a skill that has more practical uses than vidya...

1998 and you think there are 'local Chinese shopping centers'. Stop interrupting with the adults kiddo.

Why not just get a DS?

Attached: 1537784647875.png (560x559, 325K)

pretty sure chinese malls existed when i was 8 years old, yes. sorry you lived in a shit city with no chinatown.

Fuck you OP
Within the span of about 40 minutes I just blew $200 between a rebuild yellow GBA and a flash cart.
I just really want to replay Battle Network on anything that’s not a shitty touchscreen

AGS 101 GBA is top tier

Sold.

None of which I have any need for.

Hello fellow Costco Chad

Get a 3ds and homebrew it. bam every gba/ds/3ds/snes/nes/etc game ever.

Last Gameboy game I bought was over 12 years ago now, so not really up to date on stuff. Couple of questions
1. What's the difference between fake and real cartridges? Do they both play the same? Or is it a collection thing?
2. Should I bother with my old GBA? I usually play my old GBA games on my DS or 3DS. Is the appeal the console itself?

>not mashing A

Attached: elf oh shit.png (103x113, 29K)

Why not just buy a DS lite at this point, it's cheaper and you get to play ds games too.

>MFW I have 8 3DS because collector fag and haven’t hacked a single one nor even thought about doing it

Attached: 660EADDE-A333-4436-8951-5697BD606525.jpg (312x560, 66K)

Implying I didn't soldier through without it, nothing personal kid, it's why my gaming skills are on such a high level

Ergonomics + Playing on OG hardware has its own appeal

True
I just want a new classic Gameboy bros

A remake of micros would be great

not pressing b and spinning the + around with your thumb in a circle
come on its like your not even trying to catch the pokemon

So dang /comfy/

Attached: IMG_1234.jpg (4032x3024, 2.37M)

Even back then I couldn't play on this shit. That's why I bought GBA Sp instead.

Buy a DS Lite instead. It's fucking cheap, it can play GBA cartridges and you can use earphones without needing a stupid adaptor. Plus you can play DS games.

I’d suck Miyamoto’s chink dick for a new Mirco Classic
