Most people who were excited for Sans probably never even did a full Genocide run, they either watched his boss fight on youtube or jumped on his hype bandwagon.
He wouldn't work as a proper fighter if they were to stay faithful to his games, and if they did he would be fucking infuriating with every attack having a poison effect and being able infinitely spam dodges with no penalty
