What does Yea Forums think of Donkey Kong?

I hate Tropical Freeze. As someone that was a huge fan of DKC1-3, it plays nothing like them. The momentum is off, and the type of platforming is more about stage set pieces instead of precise timing and pattern recognition.

I just started a replay with the game using that cheat that lets you switch Kongs anywhere it's substantially more enjoyable.

It's still got problems still like the asinine minigames and often feeling more like a reskinned Banjo game than something based on Donkey Kong Country but it's amazing how much that one fix changes the game.

Jungle Beat is the definition of a great game that came out at the wrong time.
If it didn't come off as a replacement for Country I think people would have been way more accepting of it back in the day, even with the peripheral controller. It was the scare of a hard reboot that made it so disdained.

I want a remake of the original trilogy, but with the GBA'S time attack levels and remastered OST's because holy fuck is Gangplank Galleon still a banger to listen to.

Also a way to play as DK in every game post DKC1 maybe after rescuing him, unlocks a hard mode difficulty where he's alone and able to run as fast as Diddy and hover like Dixie (His up B from smash is what it'd look like, and to break through floors in 3 would be his ground smack from 1)

Love it. I just want a third installment in the new Donkey Kong Country series. I want it to become a trilogy.

All the DKC games have sold millions of copies except the third Land game so I have no idea why it's treated as a C list series by them.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I've liked how Retro's expanded the DK universe with a larger rogues gallery. The Snowmads were incredibly charming, and though the tikis weren't very successful because of their bad animal possession gimmick but the basic enemies like those bongo birds were cute. I wouldn't mind another new villain for the third game if they're as good as the Snowmads. I'm not really convinced Retro can write the Kremlings as well as Rare did since their styles and senses of humor are so different.

I think his absence is mostly felt because we've gotten two DKC games this DECADE whereas Rare was just pumping that shit out annually.

I played the first DK land on my GBA years ago but I barely remember it

I was not. I think DkC3 or 64 came out around when I was born, but I didnt play the series until either the Classic series of games on GBA or emulating on MAME in like 2013

I mean, DKC3 plays nothing like 1 + 2. I would argue TF and Returns are closer to 1 + 2 than 3, which had a really slow, methodic pace compared to the other 2 in the trilogy.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3: Kremling Krisis, with the return of K. Rool as the villain of the game to wrap up the trilogy.

Then I don't know, a new racing game or 3d plat.

Retro Studios is busy with Metroid Prime 4, so we probably won't get a new DK game until 2021 at the earliest.

DK returns on wii was mediocre as fuck, trop freeze was the game that really knocked it out of the park

DKC is rooted in a western (English) flair, something Japan really can't do. Hence why DK was in a major slump for a whole generation until Returns and even then that was supposed to be a one-off until it outsold a Zelda title, one of the weakest titles and weakest-selling Zelda title given its platform and userbase. Tropical Freeze was Retro getting another game from the success of Returns but that was still a retread of Returns. Compare DKC1 to 2 and then Returns to Tropical Freeze. The former took a major leap forward while the latter took a step forward. Only Rare would have kept Donkey Kong alive with a steady stream of games.

I hope he comes back but he better have a new alias, don't pull that Bowser shit with K. Rool, there are too many things you can do with him and the Kremlings, don't pull that same shit Tropical Freeze did.

My only gripe with Returns was the fuckin tiki villains sucked and having to waggle on Wii but 3ds version was on point.

They'd have a reason to keep making new enemies, but I wouldn't like it. I want Rool to be DK's main enemy and I do want that he's seen as such. But I don't want him to steal the spotlight from other enemies either.

I'm neutral, I like that the Tiki Tak used bananas to power their forces without any outside influence. If anything, the Tikis' creators could serve as a good follow-up enemy, like if there were a shaman or witch doctor that made them. Crash had Papu Papu and I did want to see that for DKC when Returns popped up.

The Tiki tribe were forgettable as fuck. The Snowmads were good in their own right. But its time for the king to return.

I love dk64 and I’m a late millenial. Zoomers hate 3D platformers and definitely hate collect a thons. A DK64 sequel would be good if they addressed a lot of the problems that made it tedious.

It wouldn't be hard to improve on DK64. Plus even with its flaws it oozed a charm that I have yet to see from any other DK game.
