Your pic isn't difficulty, it's tedium.

They are if you play on the highest difficulty settings and don't use guides.

Because RPGs went from catering to the DND crowd to the people who want to self insert and marry waifus.

Never could finish 7th Saga. I read somewhere that the difficulty was an error in translation during the US localization.

How is that fun?

Shit like this just encouraged save scumming till you got lucky. It wasnt hard and it didn't take skill. It took many games for wizardry to remotely get its shit together.

because Todd is retarded.

>normies: "y r gaymz so hard ;( I never win n sheeiit"
>the industry: "well, if we make games easier that would broaden our audience and it would bring in more sales too."

It's not. Wizardry didn't get good until like 6 and even then it is unnecessarily tedious, particularly character creation which is just unintuitive.

The two dudes in the front are most likely gonna parry every single attack during the first round and then in the next one every mob dies.

There is a fine line between hard and bullshit. Stuff like wizardry 1 are just bullshit. It's beyond difficult and way to easy to get wiped entirely due to bad luck as opposed to lack of skill.

what a shit jrpg

>j

stands for japanese

In this case it stands for "Ja don't know what the fuck you're talking about". Wizardy was not created by the japanese.

it's japanese now though so it's a jrpg

because RPG is a very extensive genre and means nothing in the current state of game industry. those pure dungeon crawlers were not mainstream RPGs in the last 30 years but still the even newer ones deliver in the difficulty department(at least in the higher difficulties).

For some reason they made it so you gained less exp and gold from leveling up and also buffed enemies to the point certain 1 on 1 duels can actually be completely unwinnable depending on who you are using versus who you are fighting.

>The D&D crowd doesn't want to self-insert and marry waifus
What a very silly thing for you to say, user.

er, meant you get less exp from winning fights. You are always behind the recommended level unless you grinded like crazy and even then later enemies can still murder you if you are using somebody weak like Esuna as your main character.

there's a PS2 Wizardry that's Japanese. I didn't finish it but it was piss easy, it just had really tedious loading times for each battle

Not fun if you are a shitter.

>a game made in america by americans can retroactively become japanese because of licensing

Copyright law is a wondrous thing.
