Yes, but not in a way that matters.
You won't care.
They're loosely connected, but why would you skip Zero?
They're pretty loosely connected. The gameplay is more or less the same.
>why would you skip Zero?
i liked the look of the ZX games better
They're worse, so you're right to play them first.
Connected, but in pretty inconsequential ways.
You'll be missing our on great games if you skip Zero though, although I guess if you like ZX you can always go back to those.
they're about the same desu
Not really.
ZX are only ok action games. They never ascend to greatness.
Zero series are on another level, with 2 and 3 being some of the best games in all of the Mega Man franchise, but also the best of the genre. I'd argue that Zero 3 is the absolute peak of 2D action games in general. Nothing else comes close.
I'm hyped
Does the sentai aspect attract you? Then play Starforce as well.
this picture is triggering my autism something fierce
>sentai aspect attract you?
yes it does ill try out starforce then too thanks user
ZX is a sequel to Zero, more so than the other series. But for some reason they decided to make all connections to Zero be as vague as possible.
I imagined that'd be the case. Just a reminder that SF2 is full of bad execution of questionable ideas.
Also you might want to watch the EXE anime since that went full sentai starting from Axess. I honestly would have preferred if they had sticked with the tone of the first season and the games since I liked it but whatever, they followed what kids liked.
Only ZXA is bad.
I cant beat zero 2 first stage bosses, what do i do?
Enjoy it user
First one is good
Second one is a slog and not fun
Third one is a masterpiece
Third one's plot isn't as endearing as the first one but it does have the best gameplay even though noise change could have used more polish.
Heard bad things about the X collections so I never bought them, I hope this is better because this is the giant blindspot in my Mega Man history, I've never played any of them except 30 minutes of ZX on DS back then.
Zero 2 is great, that ost is pure sex.
Only the SNES versions suffered . They seemed to have used an SNES emulator for those. X4-X8 were all source ports. Capcom is claiming Zero and ZX are also source ports. I am actually willing to believe that is the case with all the changes they've implemented to make easy scenario and Z Chaser work.
OP, believe me, just play the Zero games. It may not have the sentai elements you're looking for, but you're cheating yourself if you get this collection and don't try them. Hell you'd be missing out on more than half of the content.
Why come 4 in the middle?
I'm assuming he ordered them based on the direction they're facing.
how can one hold such an opinion
Duly noted.
Also anyone getting Luminous Avenger iX? Basically feels like Inti-creates is doing for Copen what they did for Zero.
Not him, but I will say I have equally fond memories of Z2-4 and ZX and ZXA (never got around to playing Z1). It's hard for me to quantify one series over the other.
I actually played Zero 1 and Zero 4.
Played the demo at PAX and it was fucking awesome.
switch Zero 4 and Zero 3 and it's fine
HI
Zero games are more solid overall due to not having a bunch of gimmicky transformations like ZXA does, but it's not like either game is really bad though. ZX is better then ZXA though.
HU HA HO
You need to because they're better than ZXs.
ZX's biggest failing is how underdeveloped the biometals and boss forms are. It's like playing as chinese bootlegs of the Four Guardians rather than the real thing. Model H only emits a sword beam at the end of an awkward combo, Model F's fireballs have pathetic range, etc. What the fuck? And don't even get me started on the A trans forms.
Also, weapon energy is a retarded concept for the game, especially in the first game. They're basically ordering you to rely mainly on Model ZX due to it being the only one whose charge attacks don't consume energy.
I wish there was a way someone could create a genuine widescreen hack for the Zero games.
when does this even come out?
i had the original X collection on PS2 and they cut out a lot of the JP voice audio from the PS1 games, did that get fixed in the newer collection?
Does Copen have any new tricks that you've noticed?
there kinda sorta is one but it needs a lot more work because it still suffers from enemy popin at the original borders of the screen and backgrounds that aren't filled in
X6 actually does have it's Jap audio this time.
The trade off is that they had to replace the old licensed music used for it and composed new tracks in their place. (Also they used the original nip version of the intro stage them then the remixed overseas version)
And you can even play the Japanese versions of all the PS1 X games if you'd like to.
The characters of Zero come back as transformations for the ZX characters.
January I think. Weirdly early announce
The transformations will have a lot more meaning if you play the Zero games first.
Keep trying. I recommend beating Panter Fauclaws first because you'll naturally unlock the Rise Form from his stage, which is a direct upgrade to your normal form.
which retard had the idea of adding critical points that will damage the boss in a way that when you defeat them you will have less energy to use their weapon?
that's a great idea, if you fight them on easy mode you beat them more easily but you get less of a reward. it's not too different from using elves in the Zero games desu.
What do you mean? It's a great mechanic. If you're struggling with a boss you can hit him with reckless abandond and you'll deal extra damage, but if you got gud you'll have to intentionally avoid specific body parts which adds extra challenge to the fight.
If you're gonna skip a Zero game make sure it's 4. ZXA is also shit so don't rush yourself
It was implemented clumsily by making you only allowed to hit very small parts of the boss' sprite. Getting a lvl 4 victory on bosses like Flammole where the weak spot is giant or Fistleo where everything is small is a nightmare
I wanna get it, but I don't think my toaster can handle and I'm reluctant to buy a Switch.
Those minimum stats listed on Steam are bonkers for an upscaled sprite game with special effects.
I prefer zero 4 to zero 1 desu.
they’re probably like that because the zeros around Z4 are all staring at him
Fuck you man, ZXA is great
I dunno I replayed the game few days ago and I liked the challenge.
>if you're gonna skip a Zero game skip the best one
Jap devs can go overboard with particle effects lol.
Also a Switch is a pretty neat system desu. Not without its flaws, but I do really enjoy mine.
Hitting weak spots doesn't do extra damage
Why did Copy X take me like 13 game overs and then I beat Elpizo on my first try?
If they manage to include the option to avoid grinding for skills in Z1 it'd be worth playing desu
The map is great. Too bad Model A is a fucking bore compared to ZX and most of your transformations aren't worth a shit.
Elpizo doesn't have a bottomless pit for one.
It's also easier to hit him with charge attacks. And just easier in general
>4
>best one
>Not 2 or 3
?????????
>Do i need to play the zero series before ZX?
No. Technically you don't really need to play any of them before any of the others, but both series have an ongoing story so you'll generally want to play each series in order. You can play ZX first or Zero first, though.
>Are the two games stories connected?
Yes. Technically they take place in the same world, with ZX happening far into the future. Far enough that old concerns are no longer relevant and new issues are happening, so there's no direct connection.
There is a lot in ZX which references Zero, though. The six Model forms you can take are based on main characters from Zero, major characters Ciel and Dr. Weil are referenced in the first ZX game, and a few other implications. It's not mandatory, but you'll see a lot of things you remember from your Zero playthrough if you play ZX second.
Although I'd note that MMZ is exceptionally hard, while MMZX is more of an easier exploration game, so you might not be inclined to push through all four MMZ games before screwing around in MMZX.
Don't listen to this fag zero 4 is a good game with a fantastic ending.
Don't listen to this guy, holy shit.
>gifs you can hear
You don't "need" to play the Zero games to enjoy the ZX games, in the way you don't "need" to play the X games to enjoy the Zero games.
The story will make more sense, and you'll enjoy the little references it makes
You can just jump-cling to one wall and just fire off charged buster shots at Elpizo the whole fight. It isn't the safest option, but it is very easy and consistent. Copy X meanwhile has two forms, one which chases you around the room with few gaps to avoid his shots, and the second which features instakill pits you must wall-cling above and a form which can only be hit with a charged saber or shield boomerang.
I unironically love Wayne Doster as Zero. A majority of his delivery is really good.
>COLONEL!
>I'm disappointed in you Colonel!
that trash mechanic goes against the megaman style. it adds surperficial challenge that shouldn't even exist in the first place you also have no indication of the damn spot. as if the trash map design wasn't enough of a shit show
IT'S NOT TOO LATE, STOP THE COOP NOW!
the jetski armor vehicle stage in mmx4 was the first point where I knew I liked girls in a romantic way.
I had dreams about rescuing a certain girl while riding off on the thing shooting up bad guys. I also had dreams about rescuing her from the prison you escape from in the tomb raider 3 demo.
I was 8. I still remember that girl; she's a complete whore now.

Cool song though
Copy X is is one of my favorite fights in the series. I just wish he got a buff in health and didn't get knock backed so easily. I love avoiding his attacks.
In fact, I think Zero bosses needed a buff in general in health or Zero's charge saver needed a fucking nerd. That thing takes a god damn chunk out of everything.
why aren't you black
gay
Zero's saber has a nerd: he's called Copy X
>tfw 4GB RAM and 16 GB optane in my craptop
I have no idea if I can run this thing, it's a 2D platformer for fuck's sake, it shouldnt need that much RAM
I wish. Women are a fucking hassle
>no indication
HX shows you the weakspot. Anyway you don't care then you can just ignore this and you'll get lvl 2-3 vicotries most of the time, and if not then you can repair the biometals
>having to grind to repair the amunnition
>while every other megaman game doesn't have this rpg faggotry
now I understand why this flopped
Nevah...
WELL IF THAT'S YOUR DECISION... PREPARE YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>having to grind
Cyber Elves in Z1/2 are more grindy than this
I would have preferred ZX's weakness mechanic if it were the opposite. Hit the weak point to get the highest possible kill level. However, now the weak point is incorporated into the boss fight where you have to bait it out or force it out. In ZX, it just felt like an arbitrary "DO NOT TOUCH" zone without any thought or reason. It be cool if model switching was incorporated into the boss fights.
[Synthesizer Intensifies]
I don't know, I thought it was a neat mechanic. It meant playing nice with the enemies and trying to avoid intentionally damaging the specific part. Something that was really difficult, especially with Fistleo pretty literally shoving the weak point right in your face. But the boss rush at the end was practically begging you to abuse the OD mechanics and the charged shot to just completely destroy their weak point in only a few shots. Pretty cool.
>Fistleo shoves his face out like normal
>charged Overdrive tornado rips him to pieces and dead within a second
I will admit that ZXA handled it better, though. Weak points are something you can hit and can take advantage of, but it's in a harder to find location and there are actual challenges in either avoiding it or 100% dealing damage just to it.
>need to grind to repair biometals
No you dont, stupid fuck. A couple of level 2 victories will give you enough weapon energy to finish the game needing little else. The fully repaired biometals are to use a gimmicky charged attack that just uniformly sucks
>while every other megaman game doesn't have this rpg faggotry
>Casually ignores the unlock requirement of cyber elves in 1 and 2 especially 1, the E crystal grinding to produce satellite elves in 3 and the E crystal requirement for using Croire without penalty in addition to a crafting system in 4 requiring grinding fro very specific junk
based retard
And all this is without taking the X series into account
>Harpuia's EX attack
AAAAAAHHH
not him, but Tornado in ZX is pretty broken though
you don't need to use CE in zero though. the way ZX handled weapon ammo is counter intuitive to megaman.
>retards are legit comparing the ammunition penalty in zx to extra shit like upgrades and cyber elves
ZX punishes you for beating the boss like the series hae been doing since its conception. stop being retards and comparing normal boss weapon with upgrades
Getting a lvl3 victory instead of 4 is hardly a punishment
MMZ 1 is super hard compared to the other games. I had no problem beating MMZ3 and 4 when they first came out, but MMZ 1 is a real bitch.
To be fair, MMZ1 was probably your first Zero game and you weren't likely used to the in-your-face, dash everywhere, saber slash the enemies gameplay. By MMZ3 you'd already played (probably completed) two games of that style, so even if a bit out of practice, the game would come easier to you from the start.
MMZ4 was a bit easier, though. Giving you one cyber-elf you just upgraded and just giving you E-tanks meant that fights would go a lot easier unless you were doing a challenge run. Most people would've instinctively avoided using cyber-elves in the previous games just because of the ranking penalty; the games basically told them that they shouldn't be doing so.
I think he means in general. Z1 has the grinding, the blind jumps (like the Factory bomb defusal mission, or going down to the submarine beneath the desert), throwing a boss like Aztec Falcon at you off the bat, and a really fucky continue system. Z2 still had hints of these problems, but Z3 and 4 were tough yet fair by comparison.
Why would you want him to skip the finale?
