Just look at any game in your library, there's now like 3-4 times as much space used for the Community/Store page links that used to be a simple list on the right. There is no news section anymore, the game page is the news section.
They've kinda lifted the 'home page' of Discord and applied it to every game page. It was terrible on Discord because it's bad design ethic with a bunch of needlessly wasted space and improper segmentation.
Steam finds itself with the worst of both worlds.

I use that because it's the only one that lets me see the chat too.
Everything else is so fucking flat and if I go to new UI I get bombarded with weird chromium browser blur that won't ever fuck off. As it is, building everything off a browser is lazy and hacky as fuck and wastes resources on both the server and end-user side.

chat is using 500mb for me, steam itself is only using 60mb

the small setting makes it a lot more usable, at least in my opinion

Also it seems free games are now also perm visible in the library where before if they weren't currently installed on that computer you would not see them in library. Thats a small feature I wanted.
