Literally everything about it is in fact designed around large libraries with discovery stuff not only shoving "forgotten" games in your face but also making it far easier to filter games you are looking for, only a braindead monkey would ever think the old UI was any decent and the exact same list UI is still there in the left but with extra features.
They could have implemented this enhanced searching without putting this tile bullshit on top of it.

You don't seem to understand. Even when it rolls out you can still disable it.
At the top of the Steam client, Click Steam -> Settings -> Library. There you can choose Low Bandwidth Mode to disable auto-loading of things like community content and Low Performandce Mode to disable some graphical features and transitions.

The cover view is pretty ugly with over half of the games missing covers, it will never be fixed unless Valve does covers for all games because devs are really fucking lazy and won't do it themselves.

That's the thing though, they updated Bioshock and Bioshock Remastered, and they updated Bioshock 2, all they had to do is use the art of the Bioshock 2 without "Remastered" on it for the original Bioshock fucking 2.
Family shared games now appear together with the other ones rather than being a separate category.
Pretty decent overall and my only real complaint is the fade delay when clicking between games but you can disable that.

anyway, I think the fastest way to get vertical cover art is for valve to allow you to choose art from the community page, instead of having the setting open only the file browser. that way, people might be incentivized to upload custom cover art to the community page

I opted into it and since all I care about it searching the game I want and booting it up there isn't anything I really care about, there isn't a reason for me to dislike it more or less than the previous UI I guess. The extra categorization tools might come in handy I suppose, if my library ever grows large enough to justify it.

It's a fucking mess in the new UI though. There are like 15 different arts you need to add. And even though Steam Store games that have the old banner art get like a weird wipey-swipey version of it to fill the box, if you upload a custom grid image in the old size, it just zooms it WAAAAAAY the fuck in, instead of stretching it.
Not only that, but there are like 4 different types now; the old art is still set in Big Picture Mode, but you have to set it again for the wide-size view (if it's your most recently played game), PLUS set it for the vertical view, PLUS there's the header art which honestly it doesn't seem like you can custom set even if you want to (plus of course the icon work for the small lists).
And unlike before there's fucking nothing available in the new size in any of the SteamBanner boorus.

You can do that and it's pure shit and clunky, searching for a game shows a billion duplicates of it for each tag it has, you can automatically tag your games with store tags and categories using Depressurizer but you don't need that shit in the new UI since you can already search by tag and make categories.

By far my biggest disappointment about the new UI is that my screenshots no longer fill the background of a game page. Also, I wish I could just disable the trading cards panel on the right which I do not care for in the least.

I noticed this too, some displays/pages cause GPU load. Not enough to make my graphics card kick off into full 3D settings, but more than Firefox which has 2 windows open, one of them playing a video. It depends on what it's showing. If I click on Home to display the default shit, there's no significant load, but if I click on certain games GPU usage goes way up. Probably a bug, this shit is beta after all. There must be something on those pages fucking it up, even though all the content looks static.

I did it because it looked cool. Having all of the DBZ Budokai and BT games lined up looked fucking cool. I didn't spend hours making the banners, I downloaded on a Steam Banner site for non-steam games. Only reason I spent hours on it was because Steam had a weird glitch with PCSX2 where the banners wouldn't show up and because I had a large library of non-Steam games to go through. I spent like 1-3 hours at most on it, but it still feels like a fucking waste of work now that this new UI update was done. I don't mind the box art being displayed instead, but they could've still kept grid mode.

I'm really liking the new ui and search and custom catagories is great, I always did that stuff manually and it would take a while. However it doesnt work perfectly on its own and I had to edit it since it added sp games in mp and vice versa.
I also much prefer posters rather than banners, but it really sucks that it seems like only about half of my games even are properly supported. Gog was able to do this, I don't understand how valve wouldn't be able to also just skim a database to fill in the blanks. Maybe it will be sorted for the full release idk.
Searching a library with a few hundred games and a billion tags is faster, I'm not getting horrible lock ups I always used to get.
There's some annoying stuttering when quickly scrolling through the cover view but it seems to settle after the covers are all loaded.
