My thoughts about has always been an okay but dated FPS made for its time. The gunplay wasn't as great as the later Monolith FPS and to me is merely servicable. The stealth mechanic is quite dated as well. It was a stealth game when devs are still figuring out how stealth games works. Levels are too linear for a stealth game and leaves little improvisations. It's also an all-bets-are-off type of stealth game where once you get caught, you're pretty much forced into gunfights unless you reload your saves.

Really, the things that made it remembered so fondly is the characters, story, writing, and humor. They're all so wonderfully done. Cate isn't only sexy as hell, but she's also dashing and charismatic and genuinely the best female protag in vidya. Some people on Yea Forums seems to spite games with decent story but mediocre gameplay but to me, this game is good because of that.

I like it more when it compromised between those two type of stealth. The game will punish you heavily if you get caught but still leaves you ways to hide, however the enemies are still wary about you and stays in caution until you're in the next level

Once I stopped trying to play it as a 100% stealth game I had great time. Just using stealth to scout and take out the first few enemies in an area is plenty.

Already played the first 3 games too many times. Old SC games are pretty linear and has this "you need to do this exactly like how the designer intended or you'll break the game" vibe to it. Probably because of that, I didn't realized that the enemies has different state since I've rarely got caught. Doesn't mean it's bad, but I'm much prefer the more open ended levels for my stealth games, hence mentioning MGS V

Aside from the difficulty of getting the game running on modern hardware, it's a fairly interesting series with some of the most well executed humor of any FPS. They're better Austin Powers games than any actual Austin Powers games.

It's not though, I played the PS2 version and it's a horrible port, mostly because it breaks the levels in much smaller parts.
As for for the extra content: It's just three or four new segments that are played every time Cate gets unconscious which play in London during your thieving youth. They are really not that impressive.

The extra levels the PC got in the GOTY edition are much better.

i'm playing through 1 now and I got it off this site for free after having it in my backloggery since like 2016. I never got past the 3rd level when i bought it new.

It is worth it to replay levels to get extra items and bonuses? It feels like there's a decent amount of missable content and easter eggs but the game never requires you to replay levels.
