Better than any LCD, if you ask us

>eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2019-modern-games-look-beautiful-on-crt-monitors
> Better than any LCD, if you ask us.
>It's true. Running modern games on a vintage CRT monitor produces absolutely outstanding results - subjectively superior to anything from the LCD era, up to and including the latest OLED displays
>liberation from a set native resolution is a gamechanger
>CRT is on another level compared to modern technologies in that every aspect of every frame is rendered identically, to the point where even a 768p presentation may well be delivering more detail in motion than a 4K LCD.
>Even compared to 240Hz LCDs I've tested, the classic mouse pointer response test [on a CRT] feels different, faster
>aliasing in particular is much less of an issue compared to a fixed pixel grid LCD
>Today's premium-priced gaming LCDs are trying very hard to recapture CRT's major benefits - low latency, high refresh rates and reduced input lag - but as good as many of these screens are, for our money nothing beats a good old-fashioned cathode ray tube display - not even the very best LCD screens on the market.

How the fuck will OLED/mLED shills recover? This is the biggest blow they have ever gotten. 15 years of market dominance and they STILL can't catch up. There's also a video that came with it.
youtube.com/watch?v=V8BVTHxc4LM

Time to bend over and accept that you were sold technology not because it was better, but because it was cheaper and easier for your corporate overlords. And they sold it to you at a premium. CRT is still the ultimate display technology, 15 years after LCD took over.

Alright well where does one get a crt monitor?

source one locally

Games look better in CTR because it hides "flaws"
It's like a real life pixel filter from an emulator/source port

>Bought a premium tier CRT that's like 1% of all CRTs
WOW IT'S SO GOOD I CAN'T STOP CUMMING
No fucking shit it's going to have great image quality but you have to spend thousands of dollars to get one

Read the OP, article and watch the video - there's 100 other reasons. At the end of the day it comes down to one simple solution - CRT is just a better display technology. No flaws hidden, no motion blur added. LCD is simply inferior.

i've sold my crt some months ago, it's great for playing but is just such a waste of space and I had to keep a android box connected to it so I could watch videos since it had av cables

I have two 2048x1536 19' CRT myself, sadly it's only VGA and BNC.

Attached: oldies.jpg (1280x1440, 390K)

it's called LCD because it's for the lowest common denominator

Ouch, some website so desperate for clicks it tries a new form of clickbait, where it comes up with some nonsense to pander to ignorant.

I have CRTs in my home. But their flaws are fucking glaring.

I just can't be fucked to hunt one down and get an adapter for it

Sadly not an option for me because I literally us my monitors until they burn out. Before my first LCD one, I was using a CRT monitor from the mid-90's before that one crapped out in the mid-00's, and then a similar thing happened with my first LCD monitor of about ten years of service before it went to shit.

Are CTR monitors bad for your eyes/health? It couldn't be only due to the size that people switched to LCD.

>because it hides "flaws"
so does anti aliasing

>sadly it's only VGA and BNC.
I'd gladly take one of 'em off your hands if there was any chance we were close.
Go get those GTX 980 ti's and enjoy them user.

the ringer in the video is delivered around 4:30
>CRT no high resolutions so i lowered resolutions and got better framerate with max graphic options!!!!!!!!!!!

guess someone has to say it but for a bunch of boomers dedicated to literally counting framerates for their entire purpose, this is absolutely biased. also, cause someone needs to say it, resolution is by far the most significant factor in determining game performance.

high definition models, textures, game logic and even dynamic physics of a modern game will usually be less intensive on your modern system COLLECTIVELY than simply having a resolution higher than 1080p. The chase for high resolution after 2008 has been absolutely detrimental to gaming quality.

bump

The prime reason while I'll never go higher than 1920x1080. It's a huge fucking meme that kills performance for little gain.

>how to get people to buy a decade old product at modern price

That was a myth and an entire industry formed around it selling blue glasses and screen covers, but yeah, people switched because of marketing and power saving.

Who the fuck is still using LCD in 2019?
It’s all about the OLED now.

Are these retards going to complain about plasma tv next?

I think a lot of people would take the CRT pill if they actually started making them again. People just aren't willing to go digging through the basement of smelly dudes to find a dirty one that needs work and then buy a million adapters. Maybe we'll see some sort of Kickstarter/Drop thing one day.

>oled
you fucking wot m8

OLED monitors still suck balls and aren't widely available. LCD is still king for monitors, unfortunately.

There are no OLED gaming monitors currently on the market. Yes, you can hook up a TV to your PC, but then you'll have to enjoy TV input lag and TV refresh rate.

it's probably fine as far as visual go but damn I don't want to read text on a crt ever again.

I still hold the belief that lcd set image display tech back decades.

youtube.com/watch?v=vYWDsJGVYWY
While technically not "gaming", what the fuck does that mean anyway?

I know this might sound weird but Can you post pics of your mom? Blured out face if you must. I just have a strong feeling that your mom is hot.

LCD marketed itself better.
If the vastly superior SED took hold, we'd be well beyond the 1080p 60FPS "standard" we've been stuck on for the past two decades.

It's true, lcd was done as a cost saving measure where they invented dozens of reasons to switch, none of which had to do with image quality.

All the new OLED TVs are low latency and 120hz.

What about the burn-in? Let's say I play a game for 3-4 hours, and it has a HUD...

standards that can't last 30 years aren't standards they are fads. This is why older TV felt cultural,it lasted the same for generations. The race to high res/high fps just drove away people, it's ridiculous that we now expect customers to invest thousands in a "new screen" when 90% of the available content isn't even 1080p, and you literally take hostage new content on that new high res "until everybody adopted" which doesn't happen.

3-4 hours is nothing. People who get rapid burn in on OLEDs are leaving CNN on max brightness all day long.

>instantaneously powers on

my fucking ass. The tubes can take upwards of a couple minutes to warm up

LCDs were light, power efficient, and easier to make in large screen sizes. To the average consumer who watches evening news and sitcoms that's enough of an upgrade from CRT. It's only /vr/ that refuses to move on but they have valid reasons.

>upwards of a couple minutes to warm up
no? wtf dude.

aayyyyyyyeee

Am I the only person who can't tolerate low persistence displays? Anything that's not full sample and hold fucks with my eyes. Low frequency PWM LEDs too.

>power
who give a shit. the only argument is that TV's tend to occupy a cube of space while LCD where merely as large as the stand required.

>confirmed for never used a crt
They produce a bright image within 10 seconds but it's blurry and out of focus until the tube warms up which takes around 5 minutes.

What? Your CRT is dying. Mine is up and running in 4 seconds after degauss.

Anyone who noticed the lights dim when they turned on their 42" trinitron monster. The only other household appliances that do this are dryers and hvac compressors.

Imagine what monitors we could have had if it wasn't for L.Soi.D's.
Now we need to put up with another 20 years of motion blur and input lag before they become good.

Hopefully if enough people get interested in crts, they'll start to get produced again or someone tries to perfect it.
Sadly manufacturers would never make something that's meant to last more than 6 years.

>CRTs will NEVER come back
If we had stuck with them they would be only a few inches thick and look amazing.

Keep dreaming. SED is just LCD but with tiny CRTs as the pixels, so like LCD it'll only look good at a single resolution. OLED does what SED proposed while being even thinner and having better colors/contrast. Traditional single-tube CRTs are memed to hell and back only because of their fully analog nature which makes any resolution look good. The thickness is part of that and aside from laser projection screens nothing will offer the quality of a single-tube CRT in the size of a LCD.

>L.Soi.D's.

gay

NO YOU'RE GONNA INFLATE THE CRT MARKET, THEY'RE GONNA SKYROCKET IN PRICE NOOO

>Traditional single-tube CRTs are memed to hell and back only because of their fully analog
What do you mean? They still have pixels, they're just usually hexagonal. On my old cheap CRT I could see individual phosphor dots - red, blue and green.

This. Anything above 1080p is a complete meme

all gpus are only displayport and hdmi now
digital output only on the back
crts need an analog signal carrier and they only support dsub-15 (vga) or dvi-i adapted connections

There are converters you know

I see the Samsung contractors are working hard

>turn on CRT tv
>eeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

yes,the golden one

>hdmi
HDMI are just DVI with DRM.

You can skip to the end where the kingdom hearts footage comes in to get the main point, but no, CRTs don't have pixels, but they do have a limit of how much colour info can be displayed, but it gets funky when you bring overall image luminance into the picture as well.

It's only a meme because AA options are shitty. If somebody bothered to make a decent AA option that could be applied to any game then I'd use it every time. You either get horrendous jaggies with FXAA or awful blur with TAA. 4K/supersampling solves this and removes the need for AA entirely.

>I-I won't go higher than 1080p because it's a meme to not because I can't afford it or anything!!!
Lmao poorfags are hilarious.

Lol I hope you're not saying 4k needs AA, because it doesn't. If your reference is the ps4 pro thats not 4k.

I'm stuck on 1080p having been on 1440p in the past, 1080p is suffering and needs to die, 1440p really should be the gold standard for computer resolutions, with 4k+ being nice but not necessary improvements.

>What is reading comprehension
He said 4k/super sampling, which is where you render the image at 4k and down-sample (scale the image down) it to the lower resolution monitor you're viewing it on.

> It cancels out my tinnitus

Based CRT

>better than modern monitors
>60hz
lol

We need a new term for you like coomer. But with GRAFIX!!?!?

Groomers?

>Never played at 120hz+ on a CRT

It's a fucking shame that tech like SED effectively died forever because of some dumb fucking patent fight

No faggot, we really don't. Go back to your le epic upvote site.

>can't even read the thread
Retard he was talking about AA at higher resolutions, which there is no need for. And by the way SS is not static 4k, it can be any resolution you want.

Name one card that can run modern games at 144 fps on 4k with settings turned to ultra.

There's not even a cable out that can support that much bandwidth. Your point? Not all games benefit from 144 hz and not all of them look that different from ultra to high. The upgrade to 4k is still worth it because the difference in quality is night and day. I stick to fps/rts/mouse games for 1080p 144 and everything else is played on my 4k TV 120 tv and it's definitely not a meme like like you and the other sour grapes faggots are spouting.

Is it possible to produce crts in a florescent light bulb style since crts are basically giant light bulbs?

I only use a CRT for PS2 at this point because 480i

Blessed image

> i-it's not a meme!

>can't come up with any refutation
I'll take that as a victory. Sit, faggot.

and you never adequately explained why 4k is worth the hassle when it only looks marginally nicer, cunt

I'm saying it doesn't look marginally nicer based sour grapes poster. It's astounding how much better it looks. But you'll never know until you hop the border right my Chile friend?

>But you'll never know until you hop the border right my Chile friend?
wut

>It's astounding how much better it looks
You're very easily impressed

>roleplaying as someone who can afford 4k
LMFAO this is getting good

I need answers Yea Forums

what's wrong with these people?

forgot I took this but here you go

Are dlp TV's good?

>turn crt on
>ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

What is that? A 4k monitor? Tv? Either way good to know you're just retarded then, assuming that even is yours. If you seriously can't tell the difference between the two I don't know what to tell you, get glasses or upgrade your rig. If those don't work check in for a mental deficiency.

sadly there is no good way to know if a CRT is good or not unless you specifically check the model numbers, which nobody specifcies or theres little info on them.

They work for Samsung

No it's

>Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiooooooooong

All the CRTs I bought have this annoying high pitch noise whenever it's turned on. I thought all CRTs produced that noise but apparently that's a common problem with the inside. It drives me fucking mad

I can tell the difference, it just isn't really worth it

You are too young

yeah anybody who's old enough to use CRTs knows how superior they are BUT bulky power hungry noisy eye straining etc it's just not worth it

Based CRT

CRT wreck your eyes man
>t. spend my childhood glued to crt monitor

should've used higher refresh rate

yeah well, who knew or cared

>144hz not even possible
>not a meme
lmaoing at your life right now.

To use the argument that pixelfags like to use: these games were designed with LCD/OLED monitors in mind. :^)
