Why did British people adopt the term "Games Console" rather than "Game Console"?
Why did British people adopt the term "Games Console" rather than "Game Console"?
Because they're not familiar with the PS4, so all their consoles have gameS (plural).
But they're saying it's a console for games. But it's also able to use youtube and you can watch streamable movies. Playstation lets you watch blu rays
almost like the term was adopted before consoles became shit PC's.
though im not sure how even in your arguement"game console" is more appropriate than "games console"
i always wondered why in british english uses maths but in american english uses math
Kek
it is a console that plays games. Simple enough.
Absolutely and utterly based
they really like their S’s, thats why they say maths instead of math
i mean generally it just makes sense. i would do a math problem, but usually a single problem requires more than one step, so im not just doing math, im doing maths, plural.
Games console is what they call the Switch. Game console is what they call the PS4.
That's absolutely ridiculous though. Eating a sandwich usually takes more than one bite, but if somebody asked you what you were doing, you wouldn't say that you're "enjoying some foods".
Yet you cut a single sandwich into quarters and you offer it around like "yo who wants some sandwiches"
Because they live on an island without any beaches.
Also food anaology (as per usual) just doesnt work. as if someone asked me what i was doing while doing a Sum i would absolutely say i am doing some maths.
another reason for maths over math is maths is short for mathematics , which again seems to be inherently plural.
One is plural and therefore implies it's only for games, but only when compared to the other possible usage (game console).
i'll have some of what you're smoking.
im not sure i follow that logic, if anything Game console implies it is a console designed for a singular game.
"console" a panel or unit accommodating a set of controls for electronic or mechanical equipment.
removing the plural from games does nothing to imply it is multi purpose.
Because it plays games and it's our language so we know how best to utilize it, burgerclap.
It's not "Your" language, Mohamed.
because british people can't speak english properly
What you say is true. But then it should now be called "games and entertainment console" or something else to be specific since that is the route it was taking when Brits first decided to call it games console. Americans just call it a game console because it's implied as a gaming console. Most devices are already multipurpose but it's not specified what all those purposes are. Phones have always been able to play games but we don't call them "cellular and games/game device" or something like that, because it's already implied socially speaking
Mathematics in english is derived from the latin "Matematica" (plural neutral),coming from the Greek Mathema ,"knowledge, study, learning", which designed pretty much everything that's taught, learnt.
It is the same in French as well. A better question would be why the s was dropped in American English ? Answer would probably boring and "it just did" like most things in linguistic.
zimbabwe
Right, so with that in mind is there really any difference between games console and game console. they both imply that it is a console for games, even a gaming console implies a console for the purpose of gaming, we all know it is for more than gaming, but neither the US nor UK way of saying it is what implies the multi purpose either way.
Yes but you would say that you're taking a few bites wouldn't you fucking idiot
it's cos of hyper dymensional pedophiles
Haha, you and all the Brits are always welcome buddy
One sandwich cut it half is still one sandwich, now it is just two halves of one sandwich.
Yes, there is a difference. "Games console" is more specific than "Game console" but only when you compare the two. Think of the usage on a spectrum. One is more closely trying to encompass ALL games in its title while the other is implied it's talking about all games. By that logic, "Games Console" is closer to evolving to saying "Games and Entertainment Console" (not saying it actually will, but on the spectrum it would be more likely since it is trying to be more specific).
>not eating all of your food in one gulp
tea sippers, please
because they play more than one game
