Woah, SSD? Truly ground breaking.
>Says Game Dev
Okay. Which one.
"Almost guaranteed to be a PCIe4 NVMe and if they really want to up the ante 2 of them in raid0 will give 15GB/s throughout. That's fast. And available today on Ryzen 3000 desktops if you have the $$$"
But pcfags already stepped aside circa 2000
I cant stand this stupidity anymore. Even if its intentional. Is trolling really that fun for people?
Will ps now have load times under 30 seconds?? REVOLUTIONARY
but i've had ssds for the past 7 years.
It's not the SSD itself but the guarantee that every PS5 will have one. With that there are new streaming tech options available that you couldn't do if some devices had slow disks.
probably one of these ones
"Developers with PS5 will know that every console will have an insanely fast SSD, PC developers can't say the same, so it cant be optimized for it. The same way like 1% may have a 2080 to and it will always be underutilized because most PC gamers are on some budget gfx card. PC holds itself back not consoles"
It helps because you can rely for the storage performance for always to be there.
If you release a game that runs great on and SSD but constantly chokes with a HD you're going to get killed in the PC market.
Any validity to the claim that PlayStation 5 is releasing in February?
"The dye is allegedly bigger than the 5700XT, which trades blows with the 2070 and even the Super edition, and it will be running RDNA 2.0, which should put the GPU around at least RTX2080 performance coupled with the obvious benefit of a tailored OS without the overhead of Windows. The new consoles should be absolute beasts."

PCFAGS BTFO
Woah, Game Dev said THAT?
SAY IT WITH ME
1080P 120FPS
They are not putting a regular cheap SSD in there. Playstation 5 has a sweeping change across the whole spectrumjustto enhance the performance of the SSD, while keeping costs low.
What they are going to do with PS5(and according to reports, Xbox Scarlet) is going to completely blow the PC SSDs away. And due to the nature of the system, such advances aren't going to be seen in the PC for another 5-10 years. You'll see what's possible in a system that's dedicated for one purpose. In the case of PS5 its gaming. Someone was saying that PCs are now going to hold back consoles.
WOAH
IN 5-10 YEARS!?
THAT'S LIKE A DECADE
WOAH
"General Purpose vs. Special Purpose is the key.
Consoles already do modifications and are not just use off the shelf hardware. They used eDRAM and eSRAM which are in premium configurations for PCs. The Xbox One X uses GDDR5 that's shared between the GPU and the CPU.
When you have a hardware that's made for doing one task, is available in one configuration and doesn't change for many years, then you can do things you can't otherwise. It's not just bits and bytes as you put it.
Of course they aren't getting nothing for free. They make almost no money on the hardware and its not a computer since its basically only for games. It's a compromise, just like everything else.
SSDs haven't been used before it was too expensive, but now its really starting to break into the mainstream market and it allows consoles to use it. Prepare to be surprised"
CONSOLE MASTER RACE 2020
Can’t wait for games to come out at 150-200 GB because compression and resource optimization are for losers now that the PS5 has unlimited processing power with its SSD innovation.
When SSDs become standard in consoles, PC will be holding them back, until SSD becomes a minimum system requirement which I doubt will happen for a long time
no one can be this dumb. they're going to use an ssd which takes advantage of pcie gen 4. it's not going to be anything special a pc can't do.
>PC will be holding them back,
>implying devs give a fuck about pc
Consoles have been dictating requirements since the last gen
SSD is already a minimum requirement lol.
BLAST MEMORY
Playstation does what Nintendon't
Which game(s)?
You can tell there is actual brainlet out of the loop, backwater consoletards in this thread, because only they could actually conjure the literal stupidity I've read in this thread so far.
Honestly can't tell if underage faggots or just baiting
>current average gpu on pcs is something like 1050ti/1060 (see steam hardware survey)
>current consoles are twice as powerful
>"WAAAAAH CONSOLES ARE HOLDING US BAAAACK"
Cry more
1. Almost anyone that's build a PC in the last 5 years has bought at least a small ssd for system files and a few games, at minimum. So it pretty much is the standard now. i guess m2 SSD's that don't plug into sata but directly into pcie slow or the mobo or something are the new standard
2. Console devs couldn't give a fuck about PC, the ps4 and xbone has been holding pc ports back for years. But they're ports, we cant complain
?????
What are you even talking about. Don't you install games onto your SSD? it's not a new concept and has been the standard especially with openworld games.
Its going to have an m2 drive in it. Something pcs have had as standard for a few years now. Calm down console shitter.
What are they finally gonna have sata 3 speeds to finally take advatage of an ssd?
Ps4 was just holding back. Now time to bring the ultra hi tech, the SSD! The future is here!
Bro you're bragging about SSDs. Is this thread bait?
I mean really.
Look at this fucking post.
>When SSDs become standard in consoles, PC will be holding them back
Seriously?
Everyone in this thread is actually getting dumber having shared in this orgy of stupid shit you people saying. If I hadn't been up all night I would actually be laughing at you people.
>8k support
HDMI 2.1, games will be 4k/30 at best
>ultra fast SSD

>raytracing

What else?
It's like you've never looked inside a console in your life.
i would never understand bullshit like that.
its not like there is ever going to be and article like "lol the ps5 gonna suck don't bother with it".
whats the point then?
What the fuck are you talking about? Why is your trolling so low quality? Why am i taking this dumbass obvious bait?
>1050 ti
The PS4 Pro's gpu was compared to a little bit stronger GTX 970, not even close to a 1050ti
I'm talking about system requirements, not "pretty much standard"
Can you release a game on PC that actually requires an SSD to function? I'm curious myself, another user said that some games require SSD, but I don't know about them.
Answer my question please, which games require an SSD?
user the 1050ti is significantly weaker than a 970.
>Almost anyone that's build a PC in the last 5 years has bought at least a small ssd for system files and a few games, at minimum.
Not me, but that's mainly because I didn't have a lot of money and needed a lot of space, so I just went with a regular hdd.
>Massive game files are becoming the standard
>Base PS5 comes with a storage size of 250gb at most
>Can only install five 50GB before having to buy another SSD

>falling for the same lies every generation
When will Yea Forums learn?
I'm disappointed in all of you taking this obvious fucking bait. Just look at this shit:
Come on now Yea Forums
Give em time, they need to roll out those trash takes slowly so the 500+ price is better received
>raytracing based audio
We fucking need this if we are to return to the greatness that was Aureal a3d audio. Gotta do something for a few minutes but when I'm done I'll post some jewtube videos of a3d in action.
This same line of shit every gen. But what actually happens?
Fuck, this gen consoles got BTFO so hard and fast they had to release the consoles fucking TWICE - not for slim remodeling, but just to catch up to low end PCs, and the games didn't perform as well on the older models.
They keep talking more and more shit, but all that happens is they get more and more hit.
A3D was great indeed fellow boomer.
I already answered your answer, retard. It's already a standard especially for openworld games. Do you fucking understand English?
At this point I genuinely have no idea what’s bait anymore
Finally catching up to 2012.
Let's try and at least pretend to be nice. Congrats on your 800$ SSD box. The load times are very short, they are quite nice. :^)
PS4's OS has more of an overhead than Windows 10 actually, it's quite poorly optimised & eats a ton of RAM
It's just a mid range PC in a box, calm the fuck down. Consoles haven't got special hardware since 2013.
How poor do you have to be to not even opt for a 500 or even 250gb SSD
Retarded and autismpilled
you have no idea how any of this works, do you?
That said, I'll consider buying a PS5 if we finally reach the 21st century and have crossplay, KB+M support and free online
There are no games games the “require” an SSD. Its just another way to store things on your pc/console. Its just cuts down on loading times compared to HDDs, so you need one if you dont want 30 second loading screens on any relatively new games.
It won't even have NVMe
based truthposter
What does even having overhead mean these days. Who isn't already keeping their OS on an SSD at this point? Ram? So what? 16, 32gig? Like common. Overhead isn't even real anymore.
Seriously, the shittiest SSD on the market is 31$ what the fuck. Being poor isn't even an excuse. Stop spending all your money on weed you stupid ass zoomers.
Yes it will
Ah yes, it's going to be a magic super-duper powerful boosted SSD, that's going to make the console 10 times as powerful as any computer, so much so that the Nasa will start using the consoles for calculations.
things like that have been claimed ever since the ps2 days.
>i-it's gonna blow PCs out of the water
>ps2 will be like the matrix
>ps3's cell processor has essentially unlimited processing power
>look at this totally not prerendered gameplay video
>pc b-btfo a-am I right, lads
I can't believe newfags are still falling for those marketing lies 19 years later
Are you literally twelve years old, you stupid and dishonest little shit?
Will the SSDs be better than the POWER OF THE CELL?
No it won't.
So this is what the average tech illiterate, buzzword drones thought process is like. Fascinating
Blame American consumers that lower the bar for average IQs.
Even if it is bait, there are people that actually believe this shit through hype.
>Installing your OS on an hdd even just 5 years ago
Pure fucking gold.
Are you being rude user?
>something PC gamers have had for years will revolutionize gaming says console cuck
OH NO NO NO AAAAAHAHAHAHAHA
>NVMe
>for years
I hate all of you
I've looked at recent open world games, Gears 5 and Rage 2, neither require SSD.
Again, I'm talking about REQUIREMENTS. Can you name a PC game that requires an SSD to work? Not just "faster", but playable at all.
2015 was a while ago.
The point being made is that if you can guarantee that every system running your game has an SSD, you can do things requiring fast loads that you couldn't before. Modern games do things like limiting how fast the player can move because of streaming limits.
Honestly I can't blame them for at least being excited. SSD's are truly amazing. Slamming that power button and being at the W10 login screen 4-5 seconds flat is incredible. No waiting. No nothing. Once its there its ready to go that's it. Boom. Bang. Do whatever the fuck you want.
Why would anyone put SSD in a requirement section when everything is entirely optional on PC? Maybe you can't see it from where you're standing but you are grasping so fucking hard its embarrassing.
It's not a secret, to anyone, that you put your most beloved, and most played games on an SSD, or alternatively ones that greet you with constant loading screens that are nearly rendered void. Forget I said anything though. I'm actually retarded for stepping between you two and the shit you're smearing on the carpet.
>Playing openworld games on an HDD
>Mr.Microsoft and Sony said it was okay so it must be good
This just keeps on getting better
there is not a single game that does or will require an SSD, ever. ever.
just by asking this question you show all of us, that you hace no idea how any technology works at all.
better not forget to pay your online subscription for your console. afterall, they need money to keep the "online infrastructure" running, right, user?
Impossible since this is not how file structure works. Requirement for SSD is a figure of speech.
its happening again
retards are falling for the super computer lies again
>35 gigs (SSD required)
Imagine reading this lmao. Never going to happen. Maybe under recommended, but required? Fucking LUL.
shitty games you mean. also can you give an example? ive never heard of this before, but it would explain, among other things, why modern games suck so much ass gameplay and pacing wise
I bought a motherboard with an nvme ssd slot 5 years ago.
NVMe is only starting to become popular this year.
>consolecucks suddenly caring about SSDs
Do they actually not realize that they live 5 years behind PC tech.
>there is not a single game that does or will require an SSD, ever. ever.
That's not true. Spiderman on PS4 only barely manages to have enough bandwidth to load its open world. Listen to the GDC talk.
(that said, the PS4 storage interface is fucking terrible and introduces unnecessary bottlenecks)
I've had all my games installed on SSDs since 2013.
How is this news?
That's only because the PS4 and consoles in general are terrible in this aspect.
Even so, that means nothing, apart from that the developers are idiots
>we could have dense, interactive worlds where every single thing is interactible and usable in gameplay/for fun
>we could have multiples of enemies with different behaviors at least simulating intelligent response to player actions
>instead, we get fast loading times for children with ADHD (it's 1 second vs 5 seconds, REVOLUTION) and cloth physics that fuck up at least once per play session
Fuck Sony, fuck Sony, fuck Sony, and fuck Sony.
The part you're failing to grasp is the difference between being a user installing an SSD to reduce load times, and being a developer getting a guarantee that every system your game runs on has super fast loading and what that means for engine capabilities
You can have all three, these things aren't mutually exclusive.

BASED SNOY! REVOLUTIONIZING GAMING AGAIN!

>Game Dev
Dilate
It's a simple fact that a console, which must be affordable to be successful, cannot realistically outperform a PC that is unbounded in price.
It's great that a console with a high-bandwidth SSD is going to exist, because it will push the market in that direction, which will lead to games which aren't designed to deliberately waste your time while something loads.
It's also inevitably going to result in better hardware overall, because video games have historically been a major driving factor behind computing power.
But let's not pretend that consoles can somehow achieve hardware which is impossible to meet or surpass on PC. All they have to do is replicate the hardware in a PC case.
Whata weird to me is people think Sony is making the Ps5..they arnt. All the work is contracted out so you kind of know what you're getting. AMD is doing the brunt of the work, and we kind of know where they are tech wise. If they had some groundbreaking super tech they wouldn't have sunk everything in ryzen. It's just a AMD APU and NVMe drive. It's not some secret government black budget. Its fucking AMD.

>PCs moving to M.2 SSDs
>consoles move to SATA SSDs
Y I K E S
Why do consolefags fall for this every gen?
It’s literally never true.
Given infinite time, yes.
Except it's not the case, and some things are prioritized heavily over others. For one I remember hearing there is very strict and retarded policy on loading screens and their duration on consoles. So engine makers/game devs have to put off other things and go make it load /somehow/ in allotted time, which is why UE3 is doing this absolutely retarded thing with streaming textures.
There's just some things that are barely needed for any normal person. I can wait for those additional few seconds if it means I'm not dumped into smeared shit which then gets pop-ins all over as game struggles to load stuff properly. And I can do without superfluous purely graphical things that barely add to anything, but eat resources like no tomorrow.
Buying a ps5 day one. Name one bad playstation home console
You cant
current SSDs are fast enough for PC.
going from 1 minute to 5 seconds loading screen matters. going from 5 seconds to 0.5 doesn't.
going from dynamically loading enemies dancing without textures for 10 seconds to enemies being completely spawned in few frames matter.Eliminating the 2 frames hitch doesn't, because developers have many ways to hide or predict spawning of a dynamically loaded unit anyway as long as it's a 1-2 seconds timeframe.
I am very happy that consoles left the HDD 5400 RPM swamp years after PC, but there is nothing amazing behind the next corner.

they said the same about the current gen, it's just hype, sure it won't be bad but it's not going to exactly be alien technology dude
It will be a 500GB QLC SSD that will die in less than 2 years because of constantly having to delete and download games.
It will have a liquid cooling system that uses the blood of tigers.
You can't imagine how games are downgraded because they have to deal with console loading time.
Or level design which constantly tries to hide loading screen.
Like the car speed in GTA for exemple
You're obviously a poor fag who has never gone from a old SSD to NVMe. It's like going from Hdd to Ssd the first time.
more like console remastered race
>500GB
>not having 6TB HDD in RAID 0 for bloated AAA games
I know that days of HDD are counted but right now if you want huge data storage for cheap, HDD is still way-to-go. Of course at least small SSD for your OS is mandatory today.
state of console jockeys in 2019
I've heard bullshit like this since the dreamcast and ps2. Every time it turned out to be just marketing and lies.
This.
Why would I ever have that many games installed?
Buying cheap hdds for a local storage server sounds nice actually
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHA
It's not actually games
Honestly why don't next gen consoles just utilize 7200 RPM drives with something like Optane memory? 32GB of Optane is cheap and should be enough for OS files and one game at a time to be damn near SSD loading times. Besides the initial load it'd be a really solid middle ground. I'm afraid PS5 is going to only sell models that are 256GB and 500GB at most. 1TB seems unlikely. Sure they are getting cheaper over time but 1TB SSDs are still like half to a third the cost of a console. Hard drives have been a bottle neck in hardware for a very long time but the cost seems to steep for what is supposed to be affordable. They're obviously going to have HDD and SSD models right? They're simply advertising the best it can get.
>PS3 WILL DESTROY PC

Yeah nah. It won't "revolutionize" anything, it will bring consoles up to the standard PCs had 7 years ago.

>but there is nothing amazing behind the next corner.
dont say that, there will be plenty of amazement over what people will try to argue in defense of this announcement.
I for one am continually gobsmacked at what level of self-delusion is possible, and I have no hope for people to begin with.
What if they bring back the SSDDs
Nice child porn collection then.
So the process is done a minute before you even initiate it?
Thank you user for this kek
No it's for JAVs user, that's disgusting.
You mean the hybrid drives? I always hear a lot of bad things about those. They always seem to have higher failure rates that just standard HDDs. You'd have the OS on the SSD portion and all your games on slower HDD space. I think something Optane would be the better option since it would decently speed up everything.
Remember when you didnt have to install shit on a console and you could just plug and play?
These fucking idiots are gonna release a $600+ console just as we start to head into another economic downturn, not to mention the rise of streaming among normies.
>high failure rates

>Get ready to move aside PCfags. Console master race 2020.
OP's falseflag faggotry aside, Yea Forums should be super fucking happy about this. It's NOT that the PS5 SSD will be anything special specifically, but rather if it actually exists and is STANDARD.
Like it not consoles definitely influence PC games too because they tend to set base level hardware expectations that devs count on. And right now even though you can trivially through any old 2.5" SATA SSD into a PS4, because devs don't know there will be an SSD they don't count on it and build their games around expectation of regular spinning rust. So SSD isn't used as hard as it could be, which changes access patterns and other design decisions for everyone.
If all the consoles (not just PS5, but XTwo too) next gen all finally move to SSDs, that'll be great, devs will expect SSD everywhere. Nothing "revolutionize" about it, but it will make better use of the hardware most of us have already got.

For gaming I'd rather have a console and play on my 4k 65" TV than spend hours trying to even make the game playable.
Someone was wrong, and i've been using an NVME drive since i dunno 4 years ago, it will be a nvme drive i can guarantee with PCIE gen4 aka already available on PC. How do i know? Well it uses amd ryzen 3 processor confirmed which supports gen4 pcie. So console plebs go back into your little hole
How much SSD storage will it have tho? 1TB SSDs still cost too much. I'm guessing it's gonna have 128/256gb NVMe + 1TB HDD and they'll use StoreMI to automatically place actively used game files on the SSD.
That basically never happens to me,and when a crash does happen i look it up and i fix it in less than 5 minutes,if a game does crash on consoles, you cant do anything.

>slapping a nvme drive into a small form factor is "revolutionary"
Must be nice only needing to market to fifafags
Not necessarily bad though if they optimize it well, because spinning rust can do sequential transfers fairly fast vs random IO. If they customize for pure backing store and thus can eliminate fragmentation fairly aggressively, they can probably close to max the thing and be getting a game onto the SSD at 200+ MB/s. Along with the normal tricks for launcher/intelligent preload even for big games that should still let devs effectively count on full SSD being there. And while there are plenty of ginormous AAA games there are still lots of games that are small, 256 gigs would hold a fair amount itself.
What I doubt will be there though and I wish was would be NAS support, preferably coupled with a higher speed network link too. I wish I could go with 128/256 NVMe onboard and then zero HDD and point it at my NAS over a 2.5/5/10 Gbps link instead. That'd make it a lot easier to backup and expand at will, faster too. Probably too nerdy a feature though.
Based. I had a 3570k for 6 years. Only reason I upgraded was because planetside 2 has shit optimization and craves raw CPU horsepower

>Optane is Intel shit, I doubt they are going to give Intel a penny for this technology.
I thought 3D XPoint was codevelped with Micron and they still had rights to build it if they wanted (they had their own branding for it, not Optane)? Like, I don't think 3D XPoint is actually going to be used here, it's way too expensive and would only really shine if it got fast enough to replace main memory so a unified system could be created like HP was experimenting with years ago. But I don't think Intel could necessarily veto it either?

>I was only pretending

I have a lot of games that I play, but I micro-manage what I am willing to play at any given time.
Mostly holding out for when 5TB SSDs are worth $250, which is possible within the next year (maybe on sale ofc, but it's reasonably possible)
Everything I quoted was from the comments section of the article
Consoles didn't kill the gaming industry, that's a fallacy that disregards the very foundations console have built, the time it took to get there and the support it provides for AAA game development. In fact it's quite the opposite. If consoles suddenly stopped existing or if their exclusives went multiplat it would seem reasonable to think people would automatically migrate to PC but that's not the case and the results would be devastating. PC's market share wouldn't be able to grow fast enough, the market would become over saturated and many devs and quality IP's would simply vanish.
All PC gaming actually did was take a bite out of console market share and in return, flooded the gaming space with a plethora of second rate, low budget mobile tier games. It's very similar to the smartphone situation, everybody now has access to high end technology yet there is no infrastructure that supports proper game development nor do games take advantage of the hardware
The bottom line is good hardware doesn't buy good games and PC clowns need to realize this, if people didn't take on the massive consumer fad that is PC gaming, we would simply have a much bigger pool of games to select from today. The reality is most people who are going to be playing Fallout on PC don't have high end rigs and devs can't optimize the port for only those that do, these people would be the ones who are actually holding back PC gaming but it's bad and dishonest to think like that.
While game budgets rise steadily, consoles who hold market dominance will adapt to the change with hardware iterations towards the end of it's life cycle and it is this infrastructure of complimentary support that actually holds the gaming industry together and drives it forward while also ensuring developers remain profitable and continue to make the games we all know and love. PC will continue to contribute nothing and in return receives nothing.
I dont see you playing nintendo, ps, xbox, sega console games on one system, try harder
"the ps5 fucking sux lol"
-Game dev
Woah! This is groundbreaking!
It'll be way worse than that,it'll be base 5700 at best
Apparently they were being pre-ordered for $1000, but I don't think they will price them that high. Probably $500-600 would be my guess. They will definitely take a loss on the consoles and just charge more for PlayStation Plus/ accessories/games.
Call me when you don't have to pay for online lol.
>sony puts in an nvme SSD instead of a SATA SSD
>WOW IT'S GOING TO REVOLUTIONIZE GAMING GUYS
welcome to back to 2013 consolefags
My games just work. I don't even have to put a disk in.
The ps5 is going to be an underclocked 3700x CPU with hyperthreading disabled and an underclocked 5700xt. It's ssd will be slower than my pci-4.0 SSD. It will probably still cost $499, and games will still not utilize gyro aim.
Holiday 2020

just like our FPS your days are numbered PC shitters
>if only there were more people buying consoles instead of a PC, there would be more games to choose from
Yea more cut and paste third person open world games and games limited to the controller layout.
woah so they won't go for 2014 pci-e ssds, and instead go for 2016 nvme ssds? truly groundbreaking
I guess you might design a game differently if you were making it for a specific system with m.2 ssd and design it with those speeds in mind.
I guess it just means more games with no loading screens like w3.
Most likely a hybrid NVME with HBM2 cache that sits between it and main system (shared) RAM pool. Data is streamed into the HBM2 cache and then accessed by the CPU and GPU to act on and render to the player.
An 8Gb chiplet or 4GB of HBM2 has sufficient bandwidth and enough space for this data streaming (in any given scene) to facilitate this... change for gameplay long-term. If Sony's supposedly forward thinking, they'll do a 2x8Gb HBM2 chips stacked for an 8GB cache.
Yes it WILL.
you sound like this faggot
desu you'd also think the PS5 is groundbreaking if you'd have to deal with the 2013 laptop that is the PS4 for the past 7 years.
>I was only pretending
>consolefags will have to wait until PS6 to get color into their games
hahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I bet this shit can be shortened to a single paragraph. All I see is a desperate motherfucker trying to argue over extremely tiny differences just to say his console is better.
I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened yet
What's HBM2? Is it like an intermediary between storage and RAM with performance characteristics between both?
More like movie aside
It took me one google search to laugh at your post
You're believing marketing user. Welcome to PC's 5-6 years ago, once again you're still behind and will remain behind.

Holy shit that text. The sad thing is they probably actually believe that. I'm both mad and laughing at the same time at this level of idiocy.
nobody is actually that retarded its a troll post
WHY do fake console renders always look absolutely retarded?
Kids are lol, it literally sounds like reasoning I used to defend Nintendo stuff when I was 9 or 10 years old.
you severely underestimate the general retardation of the average console faggot
Not gonna lie, it's a pretty good fanfic.
the only problem is the word "invent."
So it's another marketing gimmick like "teraflops". Nice.
The fucking nigga took four hours to assemble the fucking thing.
When did all of you start falling for the most obvious bait I've ever seen? Most of the replies call this person and idiot but cmon this was clearly to rustle ya.

I shouldn't be laughing this much at a child that's probably legitimately autistic, but holy shit.
does the PC have any games this gen?
The Sky is blue, the sun is hot and console-tards are gullible fucks who doesn't know anything about hardware.
The definitive version of any multiplat.
okay, retard
Spyro reignited trilogy and... uhhh... ps one emulators?
I don't know why console users seeth so hard at Switchfags but the Switch is arguably the only console actually worth getting right now.
So I bought a ps4 just for bloodborne and I can't put my games in and have it just works. Have to hamm on the top of the console Cuz the crap CD drive is going out. Soon it won't work at all.
It's not.
Well you don't have to buy it but if you had to choose then it's better than an Xbox or PS4.
(you) me when cucksouls get anything like rust, besiege or cities skylines
It's not.
Why would you get an Xbox or PS4 when you could get a PC?
You're crazy to think that. Switch misses out on like 80% of AAA games.
Why would you get a Switch when you could not spend $60 on games that were designed by people with cataracts in a strobe light?
Stop posting boogie's freako faceapped-on looking teeth, would you kindly?
It is because it offers something different that just being able to play a game and be a multimedia center. It gives portability and few other niche things that being said you will never ever be able to say that type of shit on Yea Forums and not have a thousand people cry and squeal about it. It's just not for some people and trying to defend it pisses them off for some reason.

So Sony is aimming for early planned obsolescence with PS5s?
Just get a PC instead.
Because of portability. PS4/Xbox arent portable and why would downgrade yourself when you could get a PC.
top tier bait, great effort
Personal I don't think the Switch is worth buying either but I can still appreciate what it brings to the table unlike the new consoles which are basically just shittier PCs.
Portability is not worth the added costs of it being a Nintendo product. Every modern title the console gets is significantly worse than literally any other version, and it requires too many peripherals out of the box. Oftentimes those modern titles are released years later at full price while the other versions received discounts long ago.
I've dealt with enough of the bullshit that comes with pc gaming. I'm more than willing to put down $500 to make it so it "just works" and I'm sure I'm not the only one
>Portability is not worth the added costs of it being a Nintendo product.
yes it is, the thing's pretty cheap my man.
What bullshit lmao it's just legos only easier
I'm sorry that you aren't that bright user. Also take solace in knowing that you aren't the only one. Retards are pretty common, even today.
>Woah, SSD? Truly ground breaking.
The exciting part is that all PS5s will have one, which will completely change how the games are developed. No bottlenecking like on PC.
>"just works"
Not a thing for consoles anymore either. PC is better in this regard because any issue is a google search away. If something breaks on a console, you can't change any files or settings to get it working properly and need to wait for a developer to fix it.
>shit-tier ports like doom are $60
>console itself is $300
>controllers are an extra $70
>gotta get a screen protector because the screen is plastic and will get scuffed just by looking at it
>gotta get a case too so the joycon sticks don't snap off in your bag
>and a third party joycon if you want a d-pad
>and a LAN adapter if you want to play online
>driver updates and incompatibilities for seemingly no reason

yeah, it's still pretty cheap, and you don't need the LAN adapter or a real d-pad
>requires too many peripherals out of the box
does it?
>have issue with drivers

>?????
>profit
>drm
Consoles are literally nothing but DRM.
consoles are physical drm lmao and the best one out right now, the bonex, runs windows 10
Imagine this
PC ports dont work with HDD
I like Astral Chain and BOTW and stuff, but I cant disagree. I don't know if I "regret" my purchase but it's definitely the worst Nintendo console sans Virtual Boy. The shitty Joycons essentially just make it an unwieldy home system.
Yeah but will the SSD have next-gen rotational velodensity like PC already has?
It's damn expensive for what it is. Even the Xbox is cheaper once you get all of the necessary equipment for the Switch.
you're trying to be insulting but you make a good point, why fuck around with a PC if you could just buy a console and have it work? not everyone has the time to fix every little registry error or graphics issue and with consoles you don't ever need
now that i think about it, it's actually a bigger waste of time to use a PC if you want to play video games and depending on how much you are worth a hour then the trade off between power and price compared to the convenience you'd get makes consoles the superior choice
PCs would only be good if you have a lot of time to utilize its other features but you don't really need that much power for general use anyway
PCs are just irrelevant these days
I don't "regret" my Switch either, but I'd be damn pissed if I didn't have a half decent PC to play games on, or homebrew for emulators.
I have an RCM switch and dev mode xbox. I can run any code I want on them and don't have to deal with DRM
I mean ultimately to each his own, if you like pc gaming more I'm not going to stop you
>2 of them in raid0 will give 15GB/s throughout.
I sure love exponentially increasing my hardware failure risk for little practical benefit

Are you sure you're talking about modern consoles? Especially, those with gigantic patches?
xbox isn't portable
Maybe he's been in a coma for 20 years. Steam is idiotproof and designed for consolefags, while consoles have just been turned into stripped-down PCs running proprietary operating systems.
Here's the thing user, if you buy broken consoles and use your electrical engineering degree to assess the damage and repair them, you get a switch, 3dsxl, vita and PS4 all hacked so you can play FREE GAMES without paying Sony or Nintendo a dollar
>registry error
what is this, the 90s?
Cool, but the Switch is not an example of "you get what you pay for," because it's handheld quality at home game prices.
Nintendo hasn't put out a game this gen that's worth the effort.
You're baiting, but this is what consolefags actually believe.
The only playstation that did beat the PC was the PS1, but mostly because the PC was still the spreadsheet machine developed by IBM.
As soon intel bought the pentium and PCI, the game was over and is still over.
Many things died out of "pentium fucked it". SGI, Amigas, Macs, Decs, dedicated audio machines..
One by one they fell and got replaced.
yeah, im not saying PCs can't be used for gaming but give a new game to a PC and a console then play both until some technical problem comes up and it has been my experience that it will be the PC before the console
but im not super smart, you know? so it could've been something i did on the PC side but with console that isn't a worry since i have less freedom to fuck things up
im just saying in one case you are wasting time trying to fix the hypothetical PC problem and in another you continue playing the game on a console
>PC TN
You know there's more choices than just a TN panel right?
I've had more issues with console games than I have PC games in the past ~5 years, but I also bought an Xbox specifically for MCC so the number is skewed a bit.
do you buy all your games new?
>PC TN
Who even uses these anymore? You've got 144Hz IPS panels in any resolution.
At which point the prices begin to bloat hard and you might as well invest in a better TV
Why have a 27" 4K screen when you could have 55" or 65"?
>PCIe4 NVMe
It doesn't have to be nvme. I mean it can be nothing. The point of nvme is standartizing data transfer protocol between cpu and different types of actual flash memory through controller. But we talk about console which is completely standardized by itself. They can ditch it alltogether, put ssd controller inside the cpu chip itself, solder flash directly to the board and use system memory as a ssd cache.
Shill spotted
>spectrum jutsu
Because my 27" display is a 1440p 144hz IPS Gsync compatible
Agreed, it's the only console that brings something unique to the table, and isn't just a shittier PC
It could be but it won't. It'll still be x86 based with no proprietary tech because that makes it so much easier to port things onto it.
If the Xbox Scarlett and PC are basically the same environment and ports are practically free while the PS5 is out there with tons of proprietary shit that's a pain to develop for guess which console will have no games.
All I really play on the one I repaired is MHGU, and my PS4 is basically a bloodborne machine. Mostly my switch is for ports, and I'm waiting for a good version of moonlight to stream games from my tower so I can play n64/gc/PS3/ps2 games on the switch I bed
cool, you got tech that pc's had for over a decade now

>snes: 2-4 MB
>PS1: 200-700+ MB on CD
>PS2: up to 5 GB on one DVD
>PS3: 25GB to 33.5GB on blu-ray

>PS5: normal blu-ray with an SSD, possibly only 1TB, if not less on lower models, with games being well over 50GB and likely to average above 100GB for typical AAA games
how can you legit sell this to consumers if they can only have 10-15 games on a console
Sony is already dropping the ball but nobody is listening
Xbox Two or whatever will have BC for Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One, with the entire library on Xbox One going to be available on day one
PS5 will have PS4 support and that's it
>Keyboard and mouse

This dammit ps4
>Looking at the fact that he claimed speed and not the fact he's unironically using raid0 on his PC
You seriously have no idea how computers and operating systems works, aren't you? There is literally no defference for games how storage is implemented, there is nothing in x86 to enforce storage being specifically sata or nvme, games are just calling this particular os' syscalls and even that os has no idea how storage is implemented since the actual data transfer is done by a driver.
user you seem to actually know your shit what do you do? T ECE
Raid 0 literally does.
It's pretty much pod racing with harddrives.
But as with podracing, you're doubling your chances of getting fucked.

but nintendo has flash memory storage since the wii u.

You do know that my freesync/gsync compatibility is what makes a high refresh rate monitor good, right? I can play games at 144hz and games at 90hz and it's all a smooth, tear free experience. Even 60hz looks good when it's solid.
>tiny
It's 3' from my face, faggot.
I have a 50' 4k tv as well. Not worth it without gaming features. A 65" LG OLED with 120hz and gsync compatibility on the other hand... Now I'm interested.
Nope they don't. PS4 explicitly say that their 4K is upscaled from 1440p while Xbox One X can barely maintain a native 4K at 30fps.
Only the X and only in a FEW games.
Similar to how many cross-platform games of the generation were held back by the 360's ~8.5GB limit because they stuck with DVDs.
All this really means is that more games will go back to hard loading screens and skippable cutscenes since the games don't need to hide two minute loading segments behind the gang strolling down a road during an exposition dump and all your buttons are disabled.
So a step forward, I guess.
All nervous Japanese men typed this thread up. Impressive, nerds type some more

There's a reason why Nintendo is doing what they're doing with the Switch. They see the wall of massive diminishing returns on upgrading hardware and are steering away while Sony and Microsoft are slamming the gas.
Oh hey, Sony finally entered 2010, just in time for the 20s.
Devs still make games with 2080 in mind regardless.

Come on SONY promo-team, give us some more!!!
I remember buying a cheap SSD purely for PS4 bloodborne, the FPS drops alone were awful but the load times were unbearable. I think it was £60 or so for a 500GB Crucial, load times dropped by over half.
>>PS5: normal blu-ray
Yeah, which only holds about 200MB of DRM while you download the rest 99.8GB off Sony's servers.
>And due to the nature of the system, such advances aren't going to be seen in the PC for another 5-10 years
You're aware pcie 4.0 nvme SSDs are available for use in PCs RIGHT THIS VERY INSTANT right user? Unless they were to suddenly create their own silicon precisely nothing innovative or new will come of the PS5. They'll get some impressive achievements for the hardware they have to work with but only because it reaches parity with a nominally more expensive PC in some cases.
in his defense, a lot of shit can go wrong during construction when you're new
on one of my earlier builds I cheaped out on my CPU cooler and it had this asinine system that didn't mount to a rack you pre-install on the board, took me two hours of messing around with tape to get the thing seated

How can something 15 years late to something PC was already doing "revolutionize" anything? It's just an everyday thing for PC users.

While still being able to be feasably portable, yet able to compete in price with the already old and pricecut home consoles? The Switch is just powerful enough: it's 300€+, it has relatively bad battery life and it's huge. Making it more powerful would worsen all three biggest flaws in the system.

Last I recall the idea was to use the SSD as a sort of VRAM to making content streaming better in games and reduce load times even for consoles. Seems pretty significant if it becomes standard
Or just have more RAM.
This would only ever give you an advantage if your game wasn't already installed on an SSD and you were running it off a slower device then loading specific parts onto an SSD cache so they can then be loaded in RAM and VRAM quicker. You could also use the SSD as a massive pagefile but the performance benefit in games is nonexistant and if you really wanted to do something that requires a lot of RAM you'd be MUCH better off just having 32 gigs of RAM.
If the entire game is on SSD then there's no real advantage.
>While still being able to be feasably portable
Who says it has to be portable? Or who says the portability has to come from the device being an fully self contained console, rather than say, streaming from your home console to whatever like you will be able to soon with xbox?
>The Switch is just powerful enough: it's 300€+, it has relatively bad battery life and it's huge. Making it more powerful would worsen all three biggest flaws in the system.
I agree, I was more so talking about a successor to the switch should absolutely get reliable 1080p60fps. By then there will be affordable chips that far surpass TX1
>Developers will no longer have incentive to optimize load times for normal hard drives leading to SSDs having their shitty load times of today and not be as fast
Sounds like garbage
If I had to guess I would say they're expecting the SSD to have capacity and speed advantages over just more RAM, but I haven't read the article in months so I have no clue
I think that was it (HDD w/ SSD as VRAM), but as I say I can't remember fully. All I remember is the idea of using the SSD as what was effectively RAM
OP here again. I've set a personal record for (You's). Thanks everyone. I wouldn't have done it without your autism.
This guy gets it. Just let us peasants be a little happy for once.
>Ape Escape On the Loose
fitting
I'm pretty sure they are talking about m.2 SATA SSDs.
Honestly i was hoping for Sony to do their own attempt at the Switch, i like owning both platforms for what they offer and Saints Row is better portable.
Why would they? Handheld is dead.
Switch is mainstream as hell and if it had the power of the PS4 then Nintendo would have to stop sucking their own ass
If handheld is dead why is mobile more popular than consoles and PC combined?
>ape escape
I'm so sick of lefties pushing their propaganda into games. No, ape stay or ape get whip
this is 100% BS. HDDs have never held games back. it's just consoles being exceptionally slow for their own reasons. if HDDs were holding games back the exact same effects could be replicated on PC, but that isn't the case. games that load slow as fuck on console still load significantly faster on PCs using HDDs. there is no magic high speed streaming waiting to be deployed, there are already many technologies to load things fast enough for any game. you can load things into ram for one, which all systems have and which will always be faster than SSDs. now if the next gen consoles had some kind of massive RAM setup that might be interesting, but no. they are just being brought up to PC 2011 levels. this means you probably won't see retarded load times on consoles anymore, but you won't see anything else. your games will load like it would on any PC. it's not "improving" anything in gaming overall, just removing an embarrassing blemish on consoles. I would not be surprised if they used hybrid SHDDs to cut costs as well, they're not going to spend so much money into giving people 1TB ssds on a system that only costs a few hundred. you will likely get a smaller SSD portion that you can selectively use for game installs. storage hasn't effected game's design since the 90s and it won't start up again now.
>Please drink verification can to continue.
>literally half re-releases from better gens
YIKES!
reminder that ps2 released more good games in a single year than ps3 and ps4 in an entire gen.
What's even more crazy that the PS3's library, despite being a step down from the PS2's, outshines the PS4.
