Astral Chain

How the eff is the combat in Astral Chain simplified or worse than other Platinum games when all anyone ever did in those was spam punch or kick?

It's only "simplified" in comparison to Bayonetta and arguably Wonderful 101. Revengeance, Nier, and their mid-tier budget games are pretty button mashy, mostly propped up by strong presentation and feedback.

>when all anyone ever did in those was spam punch or kick?
I don't think you played most of these correctly, you should go back and try them out.

It's definitely simplified in terms of inputs compared to one of their straight up action games. Although I think it makes up for that by having a lot of defensive options and enemy variety. One thing that stands out to me is that usually in these games, the enemies have a lot of different states where they can be stunned or frozen or on fire or so on. In this game all of those states only apply to the player.

I'd say it's a bit like the autocombo version of an action game, except you also have a puppet to complicate things and the enemies are real threats. So there's a tradeoff happening there.

This. When I think Platinum I don't think god tier gameplay, I think god tier presentation.

Her torn dress gives me the big penis. A shame that every woman has a black void of nothing under their skirt though, very un-Platinum of them.

Simple =/= Bad
ACtually I think the other games are overly and unecessarily complicated. This one is their most fun game.

is it worth getting astral chain?

how do you justify making an action game at 30fps as a creator? especially an action game
shackling your art down to a shitbox that can barely contain it
i remember seeing dark souls running on pc when it finally got ported and it was like night and day, you could actually see details on the enemies and environs...
really sad
i'm not even interested in playing this version of the game
i hope it gets upgraded someday

Is more "simple" but this is a good thing as casuals and normalfags can get into it and the game sells better as result, ensuring sequels.

>How is the combat in Astral Chain simplified
It requires far fewer inputs and far less timing and far less exploration of the combat system to play optimally.

While in Bayonetta optimal play may mean just-frame dodges, combos into a launcher into a long air juggle, copious amounts of holding and dodge offset, Astral Chain requires (and rewards) none of this. You have one combo, two commands for each legion at maximum, and that's about it.

Even a game like MGR, which itself is very simple compared to a game like DMC or Bayonetta, is still more complicated in its combat due to the parry, dodge, and blade-cancel systems. Forward dodge-blade cancel is more complex and demanding than anything you will ever do in Astral Chain, and it's not particularly complex or demanding in the first place.

My main problem with the combat in Astral Chain is that variety is all it has. Unlike Bayonetta where you can pick your favorite weapon setups or MGR where you can react to enemy types by choosing different side weapons, Astral Chain tells players to just do everything once in every fight if they want an S+. So no matter who I'm fighting or what I like using, the combat is always "round sword, chain jump, hit rush, time slow, howl, stun sync, auto bind" - just going down the list of moves no matter what's going on. It makes the combat feel disconnected and thoughtless on top of being simplified.

Also levelling up your rank with side missions and upgrading your gear has entirely too large an effect on your damage resistance and damage output. The people complaining Noah took forever to kill and did nothing but one-shot them? They likely rushed through the game just doing the combat and had about half the health and damage of someone who did all the side missions.

She would be better if anyone could make sense of motivations outside of stopping Yoseph because she certainly didn't want everyone to become Chimeras.

did tw101 really have complicated inputs? I know it had some advanced tech using the instant attack after lock on mechanic but nothing as complex as dmc4 for ex

I think astral chain's complexity is underrated, yes the combos are mostly automated but there's still a tons of things to take in consideration, your positioning and that of your legion, jumping towards your legion to reposition, the zandatsu counter, the sniping arrow mode and headshot crits, the various command attacks with your baton and legion and their effects, how legion skills synergize with eachother to create combos etc

W101's depth was in its stun and juggle systems. The gun stinger and the X attack would send individual wonders to cling onto an enemy, and if you sent enough there would be a big flash as the enemy got stunned and started trying to shake off the wonders. This puts them in a state where they can be juggle by wonder rising.

You get two wonder risings every time you hit the ground, so the most basic way to do a cool juggle in W101 was to get that stun, wonder rising, a few hits, wonder rising, then send out an assist unite or two (form the unite morph then hit X instead of Y) to keep them in the air, and land for more hits. You could also use the 360 move on most unites to keep a falling enemy in the air for a long period while you build back up your meter or abuse attack liner to get all your energy back without letting them drop.

W101 was a much better game than Astral Chain

>I think astral chain's complexity is underrated, yes the combos are mostly automated but there's still a tons of things to take in consideration, your positioning and that of your legion, jumping towards your legion to reposition, the zandatsu counter, the sniping arrow mode and headshot crits, the various command attacks with your baton and legion and their effects, how legion skills synergize with eachother to create combos etc
Astral Chain is a very wide game. It has a large breadth of options to use and it wants you to use all of them all the time.
None of those options is particularly deep.
Wide, but shallow.

>if I can't juggle enemies for 15 minutes it's bad
nah

That's not what I said, but feel free to play pretend all you like

Attached: Never+thought+the+game+of+pretend+meme+would+be+relevant+_370d8e5a7f0ddfc62e025eccbaa8c3cd.jpg (697x562, 112K)

you only talk about how to juggle enemies in tw101 and then conclude tw101 is better than astral chain, how about you try to express yourself better if that's not what you meant you sperg

>W101's depth was in its stun and juggle systems
Learn to read, nigger

>no cancels
>no combos
>no juggles
>no tech of any kind
>just a whole bunch of ez auto commands and blue's clues filler
Astral Chain is Platinum's worst game. Yes that includes TMNT, which was actually a lot of fun if you had friends

The Legion thing is overplayed. It's not like, say, TWEWY where you're actually controlling two characters at once. The Legion does almost everything on its own and all you have to do is it the button at the right time and keep an eye on the meter.

the stun is directly linked to the possibility for a juggle, are you genuinely mentally impaired

>ignoring every other word in the sentence

Attached: getthefuckout.gif (250x188, 2.63M)

This was a big disappointment for me, it made the whole premise seem like a waste of time.

I was kind of hoping for a twinstick action game but I guess they just couldn't get anything going without taking control away from the player. The controls are overstuffed and slippery as it is.

My biggest complaint about the combat is that multi hit attacks are too good. Even if you perfect dodge the first hit, you WILL get hit by the second. The only way to avoid them is to just run as far away from the attack as possible. In Bayonetta, you would get invincibility after a Witch Time, so multihit moves weren’t any more threatening than single hit moves as long as you dodged the first hit.

Other than that, the game is fun as fuck. I suck balls at it, and I get mostly D ranks, but it’s fun.

The game never tells you this or does anything to show you this, but beast and arm legion dodge sync attacks have full invincibility. They'll almost always whiff, making them useless for actual damage, but they'll keep you from getting hit by the constant spins and multi-attacks.

IIRC sword and arm legion also have a decent amount of i-frames on their perfect call, while the others are so short you're likely to get hit anyway. Beast perfect call in particular is total shit.

>The game never tells you this or does anything to show you this, but
Astral Chain in a nutshell.

So rather than (futilely) attempting to dodge every hit of a multihit, I should just dodge the first hit and then do a sync attack? Good to know, thanks user.

the dodge is only one of your multiple defensive options and shouldn't be treated like the center of your playstyle like in bayo

for multihits like diomedes spin attack perfect calls are a much better option especially arms legion which has full invincibility

Then why it crashed and bombed?

>why did a niche game with no advertising on a platform that didn't sell not sell a billion copies?

Attached: 1476942611288.gif (500x280, 412K)

W101 released very early into the Wii U’s lifespan. The console sold like shit overall, so at the time that W101 released, barely anyone owned the console. Add onto that the fact that it wasn’t advertised very well, and you end up with a flop.

Is more than that, besides being the WiiU the game was too experimental for its own good. The "chibi" artstyle scared away normalfags, the demo scared away casuals, everything was against W101.

Did you literally forget how bad the Wii U did?

Figuring things out for yourself is depth.

>not sell a billion copies?
it's by far the biggest bomb in platinum's history and that's because contrary to what tw101fags will argue it was a bad game and fundamentally unappealing

I like the game a lot more than bayonetta because I don't have to be a fucking faggot running away from overaggressive enemies and spamming wicked weaves to do anything
that stupid fucking game is infuriating to try and get good grades in and it's not fun at all

Complexity is fine. I think where the game hurts is enemy and encounter design, lots of annoying multi-hit attacks, environmental traps, attacks that can stun you etc. Playing it close with the best fit moves just increases your risk of being stunlocked. Meanwhile just spam your skills with one cycle through the legions and you'll be pretty safe and get an S+. I think other Plat games do a better job of encouraging you to use the more complex/intensive techniques because there's a greater benefit to them.

It’s really not that bad. People say you have to go down the checklist to get an S+, but I think that’s really only true for like two cases. You can either do things fast OR take no damage OR use every tool, so doing combinations of those is totally fine. I never consciously cycled through my options and with the exception of 2 cases, I completed the game on Pt Ultimate with S+.

I disagree on complexity, but I definitely know what you're talking about with enemy/encounter design. After a few missions I just stopped paying attention to what enemies were doing because it really didn't matter either way - just stay back and abuse abilities because getting close locks you down far more than it does the enemy.

I can't find this case. Can anyone help me?

Attached: IMG_20190917_125551.jpg (1280x720, 183K)

It’s in Harmony Square. Do all of the red and blue cases and you’ll get a call from Olive. Go back to where you entered the map initially, and look up at the big metal support beam. You should see a dark yellow distortion underneath that beam, somewhere in the middle. Shoot it with Arrow.

For me going down the checklist tends to facilitate the other two more than going for enemy specific strategies

Thanks

Wait, it sold worse than all the shovelware licensed games they did?

Fuck those exploding spiders, they suck.

I hope we can get her on a leash in some bondage gear Legion armor for the next game.

>only just found out you can have two legions out by spamming Hit Rush

Things are getting cuhrazy now, I wish the game told you this at any point

Anyway, having any issues getting consistent S+ in Ultimate, not sure why I can do amazing and style on enemies and get a B, and sometimes get S+ after getting my ass kicked and guzzling 10 medicines. Also fuck getting S+ on minigames

>replace your legions with her and fem Akira in bondage
FUND IT

Ranking in this game is based mostly on how many different moves you used. Only a few encounters allow/require you to get a large time bonus or the no hit bonus to S+

There's no penalty for getting hit, and using items actually GIVES you points instead of taking them away. Using a bunch of different sync attacks give you 3k points. Using a bunch of different legion skills gives you another 3k. Time bonus minimum is 1.25k, throw in a chain bind, a hit rush, and maybe a perfect call and you're at S+.

I just started this anons. What am I in for?

If you use items, you don’t get the Item Hoarder bonus.

A slow start with File 1 and 2. Stick with it.

Cat simulator.

Files 1 and 2 are total dogshit. They feel terrible and play terrible.
At the end of file 2 you get the real combat, which feels only slightly better.
From there you'll play a lot of blue's clues and either spend 40 hours on RPG side missions or skip them all.
The game will slowly drip feed you mechanics that aren't deep enough to require said drip feed.
Finally you'll beat the end boss and decide if you liked the game enough to do the post-game combat challenges or go back and S+ everything. I decided to never touch the game again.

don't expect a pure brawler/hack n slash like bayo, it has as much if not more in common with zelda and xenoblade

other than that it's very solid, once it clicks combat is super satisfying and spectacular, the world design is top notch, lots of quirky side stuff, cute girls, it's good

>Olive missions dont contribute to your police rank
>Need to redo missions to get rank exp to get max health
Why

user WE PUT A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY INTO THOSE BORING-ASS SIDEQUESTS
YOU PLAY
YOU DO NOW

Yeah it feels like part 12 is more of a punishment than anything. 70+ missions, no special reward for completing them, not even any new scenes, what you described. It's pure filler and pretty worthless.

You get the true final boss
Now if thats worth 70 monotonous fights that spam shit like the purple buffing enemies well...

Is it a final boss story wise or is it just one more boss?

Just another boss. Comparable to Infinite Rodin in some ways.

It's a hard pass then. I've never been interested in that sort of stuff and certainly not when it requires completing 70+ missions of tedium.

IT isn't
It's boiled down to its essentials but it gives you a lot of freedom with how you play the game, the issue is that the skill floor is lower than usual (since you can just have your legion fight for you and you support it from a distance) but the skill ceiling is also pretty high.
So the range of playstyles available caters to both normies and donguris

>Donguiris
What?

People can bitch about the investigations and stuff but this game has arguably the best designed side-content of any Platinum game.
It was actually pretty fun to look around for all the hidden fights and secret bosses

Except this is completely and blatantly wrong.
The skill floor is much lower but the skill ceiling is also very very low.
There is no combo potential at all, by design.

youtu.be/cZREyEP2rus

Its fun the first time
Its tedious as fuck on redos when you just are doing it for ranks

>tedious as fuck
honestly once you know what to do you can wrap up investigations in a couple of minutes, it's not like it's these sprawling half an hour ordeals like some people imply

>There is no combo potential at all, by design.
How so? You can switch between different weapons and legions on the fly to keep a combo going and each input can be done in isolation.
Just because there isn't a built-in meter to measure your combos doesn't mean you can't do them
youtube.com/watch?v=wV0nNdxG6gs
This is a pretty basic version of what I'm talking about

Premade press to win combos are low skill ceiling by definition.
So that isn't the case here.

I mean, the investigations only need to be done right the first time and given that you likely know everything you need to do to get time bonuses and bonuses for talking to everyone as well as getting every answer correct, it's really not that hard
I was also under the impression that there's one investigation per file but maybe I'm forgetting some

>You can switch between different weapons and legions on the fly to keep a combo going
That would require a combo to ever start, and since enemies don't have an actual hitstun state that's never.
If you think that video is a combo then you don't know what a combo is.

>dodge
>mash ZR
>chain jump
>mash ZR
sorry was that supposed to be your "high skill cieling 'combo'?"

Attached: 1510930230115.gif (499x488, 98K)

How are you qualifying a combo then? Let's start with operating definitions so we're arguing on the same page

I really enjoyed it. It plays very well to the premise of being a supercop.

>The same shitposting.
>over and over.
Yeah, this game is a success.

>chain jump is multiple different inputs
>sync attacking endlessly leaves you open to counter attack.
Nice "plan"

Why’s it need combos? Monster Hunter has no combos, but still has a huge skill gap between floor and ceiling. Same thing probably applies here with how shitty some of the whiners must be.

I'm losing my fucking mind over how auto targeting, lock on targeting and the camera works. Why the fuck do people even bother playing this game on the hardest difficulty. jesus fucking shitballs.

I just never used lock on. Soft lock worked fine for me.

I think there’s also a fixed camera mode.

A combo: a sequence or multiple sequences of attacks wherein landing the first hit guarantees the remaining hits.

>why does it need combos
It doesn't. I would've preferred if it had combos, as that's one of the primary reasons I enjoy action games, but Bayo 2 doesn't really have that kind of combo and I find it to be assloads of fun.
I'm simply pointing out that saying it has combos and a high skill ceiling (that "donguri" would enjoy" is blatantly wrong. It's not that kind of game and telling people it is will only result in more people being disappointed.

>Even a game like MGR, which itself is very simple compared to a game like DMC or Bayonetta, is still more complicated in its combat due to the parry, dodge, and blade-cancel systems.

You had me until this. Having some cancel gimmicks doesn't make it more complicated than Astral Chain. You're still only required to mash on the light attack, parry (which is automatic if you're holding forward and mashing), and dodge for unblockable attacks. Astral Chain at least lets you swap legions and weapons without pausing the action and the enemy design for the most part encourages different legions/weapons.

That being said, I think MGR has better combat because it's not 30fps, enemy telegraphs are consistent, and you can actually get through a crazy fight without getting hit if you're playing carefully.

Almost all platinum games look like ass though

>parry (which is automatic if you're holding forward and mashing)
So you didn't play the game?

They're all about style over 8k realistic grass type nonsense and I'll take that any day of the week.

>A combo: a sequence or multiple sequences of attacks wherein landing the first hit guarantees the remaining hits.
Okay, then Astral Chain most certainly has that.
Even if we're just counting the basic weapon combo sequence, this game has that, doubly so with things like launchers and chain-bind combos

As opposed to what? DMCV with only 1 good playable character?

>You can just mash in MGR
Not if you want to do well. Perfect parry and forward dodge-blade cancel timings are rather tight, and on higher difficulties doing a non-perfect parry can wind up with you in "blocklock"
>Astra Chain lets you swap weapons without pausing
Yes, that was probably the biggest flaw in MGR and was a result of a lack of memory on the platforms they were releasing on. On-the-fly weapon swapping would've made MGR even better.
>(In Astral Chain) the enemy design encourages different legions/weapons
How so? Outside of ones that just throw a puzzle in front of the combat like having to cut/dig/shoot a shield projector most enemies are dealt with in the exact same way. Especially if you're looking to get S+'s you'll just be going down a mental checklist of moves regardless of who your enemy is. That's actually one of my biggest complaints.

user...
Enemies being hit on the ground do not enter a hitstun state - they can and will dodge or attack.
Enemies being hit in the air do not enter a hitstun state - they can and will dodge or attack
Your next hit in Astral Chain is never guaranteed. Even sync attacks after a perfect guard or perfect call can and will whiff or be dodged out of.
You don't know what you're talking about.

>enemy telegraphs are consistent
what do you mean here

the only problem I had with astral chain's signposting are the human enemies like the ravens who simply don't have tells, all the others have them even ifvthey obviously vary between different chimeras

Why is she holding a PS5? Isn't this a Nintendo game?

not him, but enemy tells in AC are completely and totally inconsistent.
The most egregious example is the wolf chimeras. They have the traditional big flash telegraphed attacks, but they also have big flash attacks that give you no time to react (the flash happens an instant before active frames) and attacks with no tells at all.

Under this definition there are exactly two combos in the game:
chain bind sync and howl-attack
I wouldn't exactly call either of them "high skill ceiling"

ANARCHY REIGNS PC PORT WHEN?!?! I DONT CARE IF ITLL JUST BE ME AND LIKE 7 OTHER DUDES PLAYING IT ON WEEKENDS MAKE IT HAPPEN

Okay, who has actually had to do this checklist shit? Everyone parrots this, but I’ve completed the whole game, Pt Ultimate S+, and I can count the number of times I actively had to cycle through tools just for points on one hand.

For example, against the Arms miniboss in File 11, I’d mostly stick to Arrow because as a big body, the perfect dodge sync attack devastates him, and most other perfect calls will miss against his charging attacks. I didn’t have to cycle through anything unless it made sense, and I got the S+ easy.

Wait, does this mean Monster Hunter has a low skill ceiling too because it lacks combos? Or is combos a measure of skill ceiling only for Platinum games?

High skill play will use enough different attacks naturally without having to "force" it.

>man of straw
I literally just said it doesn't need combos. Bayo 2 has no combos and has a much higher skill ceiling than Astral Chain.
It does not have combos. It also does not have a high skill ceiling. These are two separate but interrelated statements.

Also
>does Monster Hunter have a low skill ceiling
Yes.

You keep saying this but you’re always factually wrong. Go launch Akira, he stays down for ages. Go launch a power chimera with Arms perfect dodge or call.

The tell is that it runs up to you when it’s gonns do its flash kick and launch you.

That shit wasn't on the Wii U so yeah. W101 failed because of the Wii U, only inbred spergs would think otherwise.

Yes I liked it a lot though chapters 1&2 fucking sucked

Depends.
If you really really liked all the downtime parts of Nier Automata and the idea of a police-based Eva ripoff sounds exciting to you, then you'll love it.
If you're looking for something along the lines of Bayo/MGR/DMC you'll hate it

okay, File 12 is bullshit. What's the payoff for doing all those cases?

I already beat Final Noah Prime. Is there a story related segment after completing all File 12 cases or can I comfortably just put the game down having not missed any of the story?

>go launch the one enemy in the game that can't do anything in the air
The mere fact that you'd cherrypick this single enemy type that shows up once tells me you already know I'm right and you're just being a huge faggot.
>power chimera
>pretending his stun state is a juggle or combo
It's the fucking same as using howl
If you all love this game so much why do you constantly have to pretend it's something it's not.

you can definitely stun enemies through a variety of ways ensuring they'll get hit for awhile, are you sure you've played the game?

I think I need to replay MGR. It’s on PC now, right? My last memory of MGR is pretty bitter because I don’t remember combat in Revengeance difficulty to be very good. I remember being annoyed that it overcentralized the entire game on perfect parries and it became very defensive and reactive.

>Playing a stylish action game for the story

File 12 is for people who actually enjoy combat, not fags like you who probably played on unchained

>hitstun and howl stun/chain bind are the same thing
Now you're just being willfully obtuse

Attached: theclassicsnevergooutofstyle.jpg (1440x1080, 97K)

>I don’t remember combat in Revengeance difficulty to be very good
That's because Revengeance mode is a gimmick mode like Heaven or Hell in DMC.
The real final difficulty is Very Hard. Revengeance is significantly easier than Very Hard.

The payoff is a fight against the best boss in the game

It's a slower game, user.
The combat is not CUHRAYZEE, it's methodical.

>Astral Chain
>Stylish action game
80% of the game is Gendo cutscenes and Blue's Clues
The other 20% isn't exactly stylish

Actually, I believe that it can do one of two things when it runs up to you: An instant flash kick, or a delayed overhead claw swipe. The latter always hits me because I keep expecting the former.

I'm not the person who originally said tells are inconsistent, but I definitely think there are a few enemies that are really hard to track, or have really awkward delays/active hitboxes on their attacks.

But you do have, parry, dodges and cancels in astral chain, user.

I also found it basically impossible to track other human-sized enemies because of their size on the screen and all the particle effects/legions obscuring them

You’re being dumb. Nobody is pretending the game is something it’s not but you. Vulnerability states in this game are all enemy-dependent. That’s a good thing, it gives the game depth.

Launching Akira or power chimeras doesn’t cause a stun, it causes them to go into a hard knockdown animation that lets you hit them a bunch. That’s not the same as howl at all. The fact that there are any examples proves you’re wrong and you’re the one who doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.

>no cancels
>no combos
false
>no juggles
false
>no tech of any kind
false
>just a whole bunch of ez auto commands and blue's clues filler
you just hate the game.

seethe more, snoygger.

Parry is there as a legion skill, yes, but that doesn't really have anything to do with what I'm talking about.
Same with dodge, especially if you're trying to compare it to Bayonetta's dodge and offset system.
I'd love to know what cancels there are - I spent a lot of time in practice mode testing every L1 mode, both dodges, every legion skill, weapon swapping, etc. and nothing cancels. At best (or worst) they buffer.

I enjoy the combat. I don't enjoy getting stunned every two seconds by 4 different aggressive long range enemies at the same time, while simultaneously getting attacked by hyper aggressive closer range enemies who deal a ton of damage if they manage to catch me in the split second that I'm off the beast legion, which they do multiple times.

I'm talking about the ARI fight in File 12. I'm still within like the first 7 or so cases, so the first case that takes place in the ARI is the one that's giving me trouble, specifically the 3rd or 4th stage of that fight. More specifically, the stage just before the boss appears.

>No hitstun is a good thing, it gives the game depth

Attached: funnybutsad.gif (446x324, 3.79M)

For the File 12 cases you need to give up the ghost and hammer home that this isn't an action game and you can't win with good reactions. You have to play it like an RPG and abuse skills/equips.

Put on super armor omega, always have blue shields on, howl every time it's up, stop trying to play Bayonetta and start playing Astral Spam

It's true, hitstun on enemies is the most casual thing a game can have.
Or do you actually believe a guaranteed hit with no risk or skill at all is "hardcore"?

>enemies have no hitstun
This is the best thing I've read on Yea Forums all week. Literally can't get any better than this, actual proof that some people on Yea Forums not only don't play the games they shitpost about, but they probably only watched a streamer play it for an hour and get annihilated.

Why do you always spam this shit advice?
It's terrible and shows an obvious lack of skill on your part.

I don't know if it's hardcore or not, but no hitstun certainly isn't any fun

Attached: 1532611750249.png (819x753, 633K)

This right here is the fucking definition of strawman. Fuck right off, literally gave examples of hitstun states.

>look up "high level gameplay" on youtube
>never see a player without blue shields on
>never see a player not abusing the fuck out of howl, round sword, and axe syncs with 200% crit 100% atk up

>astral spam
you know a game is good when Yea Forums spergs start to come up with these "witty" wordplays for them

I don't think you know what hitstun is.
Some serious butthurt ITT

Attached: heresyouryou.webm (1280x720, 2.86M)

Seems more like you are sperging out about something you have no idea about.

Why would you look up videos at all, just play it skillfully and you will see why your advice is retarded.

Parrying is great since it's a high-risk/high-reward mechanic that let's you maintain an offensive with your legion out. It's also a more reliable option since half the Perfect Calls offer poor/erratic defensive options.

However, it was a very poor decision to make it an equippable ability, and one that relies on RNG to drop. I went through the whole game on Standard and Ultimate, and only have 3 total, so it's not even enough to cover every Legion. Not to mention you lose some of its utility without also having Effect Spread on it, otherwise you can't Parry if you withdraw your Legion to restore energy.

>dude that's terrible advice you're just bad
>what do I do? nevermind lol just git gud

I'd say it's a middle ground
Hitstun should be something earned, it shouldn't be on every attack but enemies shouldn't be big non-reactive blocks that you just wail on.

It’s literally this one shitter autist who got reamed so hard by Noah Prime that his head wound up in his ass and now he can’t stop talking shit. He whined that he was about to set it to Casual and that the game went from 8/10 to 4/10 or something, then found out you can cheese the fight at the cost of it taking like 30 fucking minutes. You can probably find the entire saga of this idiot on the archives, it’s fucking insane how butthurt someone can be over being bad at a singleplayer video game.

Is that your excuse for giving shot advice?
You not being intelligent enough to give better advice?

You don't have to start crying your shit, you know.

Is it the same guy who cried how perfect calls "don't count" as a defensive option somehow?

>all posts I don't like are from one person
I see this mindset in every general on every part of this board these days and it's always the most retarded shit I've ever seen

Attached: ultimateshitposting.webm (960x540, 2.23M)

Go find a flying enemy like the arrow legion in file 11, bring out beast legion, tap ZL, and then watch as its attack is interrupted and it repeatedly gets put into a hitstun state from the buzzsaw. Then kill yourself.

Or fuck, play the first fucking level and hit an aberrant, what happens?

>hitreaction animations are the same as hitstun

Attached: 1507432154371.gif (291x400, 3.18M)

holy shit, you're pretty fucking good. I actually am the same user.

I never said anything about the game going from 8/10 to 4/10 though. I haven't given it a rating. But I guess 8/10 is pretty accurate.

I wouldn't call it cheesing the fight though brah. That shit weren't easy.

I am spar-shitter autist!
Definitely a 4/10

Attached: 1387561260535.jpg (1053x1070, 324K)

That I don’t know.

It’s pretty obvious user. There’s less of us in these threads than you think.

It's hilariously transparent when it is one fag sperging out over days.

Only people doing that don't think they are immediately obvious.

If the replies are always 100 percent the same, this isn't difficult.

Except is true, in xbc2 threads there always some insane butthurt faggot shitposting, the times he got banned 70+ posts in thread get deleted, all them are shitposting with different strategies, falseflagging and samefagging.

Astral Chains combat only feels simplified if you don't learn and master using your various legions and the chain.

I've seen shit like that happen on Yea Forums but it's a rare occurrence, and usually based around trying to stir up specific drama. Like the one guy spamming Yea Forums about "yurishit"

If you think that's the same as thinking one of the most common complaints in the game (Noah difficulty spike) all being from one dude you're a bit touched in the head

She should take a shower

>people use the weapon with the biggest dps so the game is bad
I don't know what's shitposting and what's autism anymore

>it's by far the biggest bomb in platinum's history
Not when Scalebound exist(ed), that shit LITERALLY sold zero copies.

I really wish I could hold down the dodge after a dodge to immediately go into a run

I genuinely wonder if there are literal autists on Yea Forums who don’t understand that everyone posts with their own specific special snowflake voice and that there are maybe a two dozen regulars in threads for a game like this.

It's odd for a thread to START with a defense force
Usually people wait for someone to actually criticize their mediocre game before sperging the fuck out and claiming it's 10/10

>everyone posts with their own specific special snowflake voice
this board is literally built on memetic repetition

Attached: 1405381600468.gif (245x190, 870K)

Have you seen the xbc2 shitposter? You can't blame people for thinking in the "one insane shitposter situation" after enduring 2 years (and counting) of his shit.

The camera is fucking dreadful. Easily my biggest complaint about combat.

It’s really not rare. If you can’t immediately identify ACfag for example, you probably haven’t been here very long.

Should clarify that I am not saying the guy who says to only attack after howl is ACfag, it’s obviously not.

And yet, the same style of reply with the same set if reaction pics is obvious to everyone.

How retarded are you not to know that?

Everyone chooses different memes, Jack. Life diversifies and specializes.

>If you can’t immediately identify ACfag for example, you probably haven’t been here very long
It's always the newest of newfags that try to pull this card.

Is there any way to avoid getting stunned by the wolf chimeras howls aside from being outside their range or using the anti-howl ability?
Yeah, there's little difference between the synch attacks and the transformation attacks from transformers. They feel more like extra weapons or extensions of the MC than summons, which might've been the point.

Attached: 2019090921073900-257FD939428E4BFE6BF9E2F559D5037A.jpg (1280x720, 235K)

I'll never understand how Astral Chain has enemy combat design that feels straight out of a western action game. I haven't seen such inconsistent telegraphing since Darksiders 2.

Fucking Nier Automata is better and considering Taura was the main designer of that game, it only confuses me more.

holy jaggies batman
and yeah the sync attacks definitely remind me of the Transformers Devastation transform attacks (the worst part of the game besides the grind)

Taura directed this one, his lead designer was the lead on Korra. I kinda get the feeling that Korra had some extra oversight as a licensed product

I suspect you can roll through it because Akira can, but I’ve never done it. Blocking with Axe works. I bet wearing Arms would do it too.

I literally just beat the game and I enjoyed it a lot. The combat is very fun when you use the wide array of tools at your disposition, even if it's not very deep.

If I need a deeper combat system, I can just go back to DMC5. In the meantime, I like Astral Chain for what it is : a fusion of every Platinum games into one that feels different enough from DMC5 so that it can't suffer from releasing the same year.

I didn't understand the plot though. Jena was like "chimeras good yoseph bad" and Yoseph was "hahaghasjha i am god of hoomans" and then it ended

Attached: danteboomer.png (405x280, 95K)

What enemies are you having trouble with?

That's the power of playing the game in handheld mode.
I have a feeling that you should be able to dodge through it like you can in Bayonetta, but I haven't been able to either.

>game ends with you killing your sibling
>literally 3 minutes later your sibling is back because clones
What’s the fucking point? I know people will just respond with some shit about playing action games for the story but the story was very central in this game and it was horrendous even by action game standards.

sequel bait you mongo

>the story
Yoseph wanted to copy Gendo's plan and turn everyone into tang
Jena wanted...well it's not really clear what Jena wanted or was trying to do beyond stopping Yoseph.

>Doesn't know how to use the legions

Jena just wanted to stop Yoseph. That seems totally reasonable even if she isn’t.

Noah Prime was a pretty decent boss outside of that fucking garbage vaccuum orb attack, though. How're you even supposed to deal with that? Half the time he drops it too close for you to run with beast legion.

I think he's more talking about how it undercuts the climax of the story.
In fact, that moment is double undercut because The original Akira died from Jena's attack and the leader of Raven is a clone with memories copied from their Legion
As long as you have the arrow legion or any copies of their data exist Akira has hundreds of extra lives
Nah, they implied a bunch more was going on with her use of blue evolve and using the homonculi to do something to the Astral Plane. Just another dropped plot thread among the bundle

He only seemed to do it when he first reappears after a teleport. I think. Last time I fought him, I managed to avoid it every time. Although I was dying to all the other stuff.

Can it at least handle a stable 30fps, or does it dip below 10 every time you move the camera like the majority of console games do?

Jena was planning to use Homunculi to eat red matter and clean the earth

It dips when there's too many particle effects or a huge crowd of enemies, but usually not too bad.
It is a bit annoying when you're trying to use parry or perfect call

I don’t think they did imply anything more was going on. She takes blue evolve from the ARI guy because she knows what it is, and she only uses it to try to kill Yoseph. The homculus are protolegion cores fed chimeric energy. She was planting them to start a terrorist attack in the city as a diversion for confronting Yoseph. So if you look at what she was actually doing, her plan is dead simple.

My friends used to play that game pretty consistently. Funnily enough they played with sonicfox and he was known to play bayonetta and infinite you lol

If all she wanted to do was attack yoseph what was the point of her first two attacks? They pretty effectively moved police presence away from ARI

Her first attack was stealing protolegion cores from the ARI. I don’t think she actually blew up the subway, I think she legitimately was just trying to talk to you and only fights you after because you give chase. Similarly, when she gets the blue evolve, she just uses the homunculus to cover her escape.

>I WARNED YOU ABOUT ALL THIS
>just gives you a bunch of news link about zone 09 which apparently you already knew about

Yeah, she could have just explained literally anything. Really dumb genius scientist here.

Is it possible to get 100% red matter on file 11? Can you clean the entire hallway if you stack abilities on Beast?

This game is fucking trash.

COPE more about it.

The modern Evangelion game you've always wanted.

No, Akira survived jena attack, at that point he was legion-less, how they would have copied his memories? The leader of raven is the original akira.

so why did they decide to turn the game into Sonic Heroes/Shadow the Hedgehog at the end anyway
could they not come up with a better twist

What do you mean?
Sonic and Shadow are generally antagonistic towards each other, Akira and MC are at most having sibling spats when Akira gets jealous of their better sibling

Beast Legion
Dodge + Chain jump

the whole clone thing

Attached: Shadow_Androids_in_Sonic_Heroes.png (640x480, 725K)

I can't cope because I trusted platinum and bought it digitally so now I can't sell it. This has the worst final act and climax of a platinum game.
It also has the least fun and most boring devil trigger I have ever seen. It's an active downgrade to combat if you trigger it. This game tried to do everything and did none of them well.

Why did I get an achievement for "beating the game with a B rank or higher" when I only got to chapter 10? Is it averaging the scores so that even if I got the lowest rank on the last missions that I'd still have a B rank?

>Is it averaging the scores so that even if I got the lowest rank on the last missions that I'd still have a B rank?
yes

Neat

Jena did nothing wrong

>buying digital
You only have yourself to blame. If you want to own the game get a cartridge, if you want the convenience of digital pirate it.

Did Jena consider herself human? Is it possible blue evolve is what caused her powers and agelessness? iirc they officially stopped giving that stuff after the pandemic and that is also when she disappeared. Drinking blue evolve is what gave her the second and third form. Just like her first form she was able to return from monster form unlike anyone else who has redshifted. Considering her stuff about saving humanity I doubt the homunculus were just distractions especially the ones in astral plane. Not to mention saving Akira not directly attacking Yoseph when she had the chance goes against the idea that it was only to kill him.

Attached: Jena.jpg (1280x720, 179K)

Clone Akira is going to be your rival in Astral 2 When you find out it's Yoseph in Akira's form

>Akira survived Jena's attack
They very explicitly did not

Female or male?

Male because I'm confident in my gender identity.

She looks like she plays Smash tournaments/stinks.

Is there any romance etc I lose out on if I pick female?

No. It's like Pokemon, the same game regardless who you pick.

Aside from what was already said, incompetent journalists calling the main block/reflecting skill useless and getting walled by the first gamepad puzzle meant the large misunderstanding was magnified by their influence.

The devil trigger is utter trash. It takes ages to build up and it only has 1 move. Feels like a lazy afterthought

>Beverly doing the OP

It’s got three moves. 4 if you consider *teleports behind you* a move.

What apart from teleport and mash R2?

ZL for a big slow AOE Sin Inferno thing.
Hold L and mash ZR to throw projectiles that’s basically The Luce and just as OP.

>environmental traps
Those bullshit corruption geysers, they weren't a problem before because they had a delay. However on Ultimate you take damage the moment you touch the edge one and it takes three quarters of health from my 1800 life bar. So as far as I can tell it takes more in one single hit than every enemy besides Noah does.

Unless it''s different on ultimate beast has always gotten away for me even at point blank range. Doesn't gain any distance when red Noah does it. If you are too close when he activates it sometimes you end up in the ball before the sucking thing even starts, it just forms around you

Ive played nearly every Platinum title, and this one was honestly mediocre in nearly every way but the duel unit gimmick.

Pacing was dog shit, Chapter 1 and 2 were awful, then the game picks up until like chapter 6 and drops off a cliff again until the last 3 chapters.

Story was bad and redundant, literally just worse Evangelion with Evas replaced with Stands in effect. Characters are hardly developed even with the majority of side missions completed, so most of the events and bad things that happen carry little to no weight.

Combat is solid but does a really bad job of explaining every single things besides the basic attacks, and only two legions were actually useful for damage, could have been a third but because the Axe Legion was introduced practically at the end of the game alongside one new ability those two elements contributed basically nothing to the game.

Literally feels like the game was half finished, and several mechanics/abilities existed only to add some flashy cinematic at the end and a sense of variety.

Honestly the Axe legion is the biggest glaring issue, its useless because you get it so late. Its practically there for no other reason than because they developed it into the story.

>game still sold out in the "black market"
>Even if they get it, they are going to up the price by 20 extra dollars.
Fuck my luck, at this rate is gonna be more expensive than in an "official store", none these fags expected the game to sell out so fucking fast (literally hours) and now are taking advantage of the demand.

Jesus, just get it digitally at this point. How much more could it possibly be?

No! Unless is digital only i refuse! I like to have the boxes!

it's good

the postgame missions are also good unlike what some people are saying

fuck you...

post-game missions are bullshit.

yesh, literally died and the legion brought him back to life by fusing with him.

>then the game picks up until like chapter 6 and drops off a cliff again until the last 3 chapters.
disagree, chapter 7 was really good with the chase after the homonculus culminating in a great boss fight

But user it doesn’t sound as bad if I say that 8 was the only other bad chapter in the game. And really I only don’t like 8 because I’m a brainlet with balance problems and threw a tard tantrum when confronted with entirely optional minigames.

No, now I know better than buying platinum trash.

Bayo 3 is going to be shit.

Do I need a pro controller for this or the joycons should be good enough?

Attached: Screenshot_2019-08-30_opossum_funny_-_Buscar_con_Google.png (542x617, 906K)

You do have a pro controller though, right?

Probably one of the best arpgs and definitely one of the most anime games platinum has made.
I’m looking forward to a sequel

Yet you paid for nothing.

It’s just bloody palace one floor at a time.

How would you guys rate all of the platinum games you've played? For me its:

W101 > Bayo 1 > Astral Chain > Bayo 2

I need to play MGR.

lol, cope bitch...

bayo3 is going to ass raped DMC5 until Dante calls Bayo mama, and then Jean will ass raped Dante until Dante calls her uncle and calls him uncle. And then Jean's uncle will ass rape Dante until he calls Jean's uncle's uncle and calls him uncle. And then Jean's uncle's uncle will ass rape Dante until Dante calls Jean's uncle's uncle's uncle and calls him uncle, and then Jean's uncle's uncle's uncle's uncle will ass rape Dante until Dante calls Jean's uncle's uncle's uncle's uncle's uncle, and calls him uncle....

see where I'm going with this? Bayo3 will eternally rape DMC5. Cope moar faggot.

No I bought the console a month ago and I haven't had the need for it yet cause I've only been playing FE

B1 > B2 > Astral Chain > MGR

Bayo 2> Astral Chain > Bayo 1 > Vanquish >MGR

>Bayo 2 above 1
Explain.

I just enjoyed it a lot more, fuck QTEs forever.

Understandable, but 2's combat is fucking insufferable on hard mode. They fucked up so many things that 1 got right. I really hope Kamiya is directing 3 since he seems like the only one who truly understands why Bayo's combat works.

Someone just needs to stop him from shoving QTEs into everything.

I think the combat is the best we ever got from Platinum.
Bayo/DMC and the others are more button mashing/dodging, in AC I actually planned my moves to get more points and do cool shit.

Attached: 1568663085764.jpg (2048x1629, 777K)

Astral Chain > Bayo2 > Bayo1 > MadWorld

Honestly, I thought Bayo 1's insistence on dodge offset on the higher difficulties to be obnoxious.
It adds nothing to the game but be annoying to miss, the most overrated element in gaming history.

Bayo1 > Bayo2 = MGR ≥ Astral Chain
Bayo 1 is a bit hard to rank because it has been a long time and it might not hold up. But It is the one I replayed the most and probably got me the most hype on the first play through.

It's decidedly more defense-focused than most action games. Basically at the opposite end of the spectrum from DMC where enemies are punching bags for you to style on. My only qualm is the scoring system making s+ too ez. Otherwise combat is very enjoyable and quite varied.

That's most platinum games in a nutshell. I don't think bayonetta ever told you about dodge offset.

How do I get S Plus on Homunculus Gamma? I've done this battle so many damn times. Are there any cheese tactics to wrack up points?

It tells you about dodge offset in one of the optional books you can find and read, I think. Also, anyone have that guide on how to get good at W101's gameplay? I was planning on replaying it.

Dark hero __male is the better version of the song. Prove me wrong.

Successive dodges have to be away from the attack, not into it or through it.

too many games with slow dodges, but with a ton of iframes have conditioned me to always dodge through attacks
dammit

youtube.com/watch?v=RSAbLRnGiWg

Dodge offset is literally the core gameplay mechanic.
If you're mashing instead of holding after every hit to work in as many weaves as you can while still dodging every attack you're doing it wrong

dark souls was a mistake

Bayo 3 is supposedly something "wholly new" and "never been attempted before"
So I'm extremely fucking worried

it's not just souls games
Kingdom Hearts' dodge roll also works like that, and I'm sure plenty of other games
funnily enough, KH2 initially only had Quick Run as its ground dodge move which is actually better used to get away from attacks, but then everyone complained and they added dodge roll back in the Final Mix edition

I know, but it's still not a good core mechanic.

So is the post-game case worth playing or not? I hear some anons saying it's bad and not worth playing.

Here's your proof:
youtube.com/watch?v=ipX6wqzVqaU

It's just different challenge battles if you want more difficult combat scenarios.

I thought they were a lot of fun.

If you really really want to play more of the combat and don't mind the challenges being outright obnoxious in terms of throwing hazards/stuns/OHKOs at you then it's worth it. If you're looking for a reward or didn't adore the combat or don't want to deal with obnoxious encounters then it's not.

Did anyone else really enjoy the car pushing puzzles

Be fast.

This game honestly puts me in the mood for a Police JRPG, unfortunately it doesn't seem like there's any that aren't porn games

They weren't great puzzles, especially since they look so much like the common traffic puzzles but function nothing like them.

Attached: 51WWRzm0sLL._SL1024_.jpg (1024x1024, 43K)

I actually did like the car puzzles. The post-game should've been that instead of the annoying ass cheap fights we got.

They were alright. Reasonably challenging. Also great music.

I’d be happy with a good porn one.

RJ209873 and RJ135885 are the only Japanese ones I'm aware of. As for the western ones, there's Futa in Police (game kinda put on indefinite hold) and the Manilla Shaw game.

Some of the battle scenarios are fun like when you get mobs of weak enemies to slaughter, uncommon enemies, or hidden bosses that missed in the main game, typically one time only bosses. Other times it's just annoying shit like a bunch enemies with buff chimera, or fighting enemies in a room full of stage hazards. The fun fights and the challenging fights are outweigh the annoying ones but they are there. 70 missions was overkill in my opinion because it can feel repetitive. Should have just been unlocked via duty points.

Yes I loved those as a kid. But I don't see why not functioning identically to those puzzles makes them worse. The way they worked made sense with the game's established mechanics.

I ended up liking the first two once I figured out I could re-call the arm legion to where I'm standing to pull it through cars

>feels like i've been doing battles forever in file 12
>check how many i've done
>29/71
holy shit not even halfway done

Attached: 1549319709301.png (723x629, 274K)

What's the point of gaining batteries when you level if ultimates forces you to stay at zero? Platinum difficulty doesn't keep you at two.

for the standard difficulty

What is the arm legion good for? I get a lot of mileage out of all the other legions, but can't find a use for arm outside of auto-bind and hit rush.

Why does Max's safehouse theme makes me cry like a bitch
I didn't ask for this

To make Noah Prime brute forceable scrubs without giving the player an absurd amount of lives at the start,

Use the gravity attack to make all the enemies group together, then switch to Axe and drop a Crash bomb in the middle of them.

wtf? Bayonetta is the most simplified of their games

Simpler than Korra?

Gravity storm is insanely useful CC. The perfect call and perfect dodge sync attacks launch most enemies.

no rocket and no route 66 aka what the fuck were they thinking

Bump.

Play Kiseki's Crossbell Arc, you're cops in that.

its oraora 360° attack completely melts shields, faster than even the axe legion

It just makes the puzzle more obtuse for anyone who has seen those before because the brain already thinks it knows what the rules are.

I had totally forgotten that attack existed. Thanks for the tip!

>He doesn’t color his legions after the Wonderful 101

Casuals

Akira is fine but gets blacked.

Honestly that ended up being one of the easiest, just fucking gun it. Moving quickly tends to make your stack tip further in whatever direction it's already tipping, so if you tilt your controller completely in the opposite direction you end up hitting this strange equilibrium where your stack stays relatively still on the verge of falling over. I find the stupid timed digging and red matter collection missions much more frustrating. The saving grace is that you're able to quit out of the individual minigames and start them over without quitting out of the mission itself. I'm also missing a blue case in that same area and I haven't the slightest idea where I haven't looked.

Simple: Being a hodgepodge of Bayonetta, Revengeance and TW101 they didn't want to overcomplicate it by making every part of it as complex as in the originals, so they kept each relatively limited.

I really don't mind though, controlling the Legion and trying to make it do shit while dodging and attacking is hard enough because unlike in TW101 you can't just make a drawing and spam the auto-attack mode, I honestly could have done without the Revengeance part of it all, it's very underutilized and it disrupts the flow of the gameplay.

Should I focus on maxing the baton or the legionis first?

I just finished file 7, it is worth it to try for S+ on homonculus Gamma right now or should I wait for the axe / glaive legion ?

you can use the zandatsu move seamlessly, there's a vid often posted in these threads of a jap player fighting the final boss and he smoothly transitions from the axe legion's L shield to the sword legion's cut ability without using slowdown, looks really cool and is obviously pretty hard to pull off in a tight window

I personally would recommend upgrade your X-Baton first until you get the 360 attack

Focus on the baton first. Upgrading the legatus doesn't get you anything particularly good, while the baton keeps expanding your moveset.

what does upgrading the legatus even do

improve energy consumption?

Sort of, increases your max energy level on the legatus, and also increases the amount of health you come back with after getting killed

Upgrade the Baton until you can't get any more moveset upgrades from it and then focus on maxing the Legatus.

>their mid-tier budget games are pretty button mashy
But that's literally all of their games, Bayonetta included. Hell, it's even the same with DMC. You are able to get through any one of those games casually (normal difficulty) by just mashing your way through and you won't have too terribly much difficulty doing it. Your ranks will suck, it will look clumsy and unimpressive, and you probably won't have that much fun but they don't require mastery of the mechanics and tools get through the game.

Astral Chain is the same in that regard. It's easy to mash your way through casually and not get much punishment for it. At least, not until the final boss and post game content.

That doesn't mean there isn't still depth to be had, tools and mechanics to master, and ways to make the combat look stylish and flashy. Astral Chain just goes about distributing that depth differently. Games like DMC and Bayonetta rely on fewer, more fleshed out base tools (like weapons and the moves they have available) so getting combos going is about mixing up the everything those base tools can do. Astral Chain takes the opposite approach by giving you far more base tools to work with but each of those base tools is simplified down to a specific purpose. Combos in AC are about maximizing the specific uses of everything in your toolbox. Additionally, AC enemies don't behave or respond like enemies in DMC or Bayonetta where enemies easily become juggle/combo fodder after a hit or two. AC aims to be much more deliberate with every action you take because enemies are able to hit back more easily if you overcommit. The depth is there, it just takes a different approach.

Increases maximum energy and energy recharge rate.
Increases the amount of health recovered with batteries and the number of batteries.

It's not too hard even without axe, but in general it's not worth it to replay anything until you get axe.

do you try for a Limiter Expert bonus? it's worth 1000 points for keeping your energy above 50% all the time

I colour mine after best girls

Arrow Legion

Perfect dodge and Spin attack

Is that what that is for? That's pretty good.

>Final Noah Prime
>spend 20 minutes doing next to no damage damage
>get stunlocked to death before I even finish a combo
How the fuck am I supposed to reliably damage this thing?

Attached: 1410734145972.gif (400x316, 1.02M)

I think all of the good action games have some mechanic that tells you not to mash. So Bayonetta has holding the buttons down, DMC4/5 have Exceed and pause combos. AC, well, mashing attack with a baton really doesn't do accomplish a whole lot.

Perfect call arrow or arm is your best friend.

bump.

Dodging is the easiest way do avoid damage, but like you said, some enemies move faster than you can dodge again. That makes the perfect call the more reliable option against multi hits, Even though it's harder to pull off.
What some don't understand is that the call itself is invincible but not all the sync attacks that follow are.

>AC, well, mashing attack with a baton really doesn't do accomplish a whole lot.
The feedback the game gives you for mashing the attack button constantly is you usually get hit. Enemies in AC don't stun/get interrupted easily like they do in DMC/Bayo and most things can't be cancelled out of so if you're just sitting their mashing the attack button, odds are you're going to overcommit to one of the attack animations and not be able to dodge in time if an enemy starts an attack. The teaching mechanic is still there, just in a different form.

>WiiU
>released in the same month as Pikmin 3 which looked like the same game to casuals
>reviewed by people that don't like or understand how Platinum Games operates i.e. buying basic abilities and replaying chapters for better scores
>unconventional control scheme complete with genuinely clunky gimmicks
>WiiU

I think the more obvious one in AC to get people not to mash is sync attacks. 'cos now you gotta press a different button.

>Even if you perfect dodge the first hit, you WILL get hit by the second
That's probably because you're treating this like other action games and expecting to be able to counter after a single perfect dodge. The actual expectation is that you recognize the multihit is coming, dodge each hit, and then counter-attack once it completes. I haven't seen a single multihit attack that you can't dodge every hit of. You just have to know that second and third hit is coming, ignore the sync attack prompt, and dodge again. It also helps to know the right direction to dodge depending on the attack coming at you because some of them you have to dodge towards the blind spots to be able to avoid subsequent hits.

What's the icon in the top right of the file select screen represent? I think it's some collectible but I don't think I've gotten a single one of whatever it is.

>i.e. buying basic abilities
to be fair having to buy the core defensive options was completely retarded

I like the HENSHIN but it last too short, you can enjoy the "image song" because it ends before the song picks up. Is there a way to extend it? some user said the passive abilities may affect the HENSHIN form.

*can't enjoy.

Howl stun
Sword hit rush
Axe stun sync
Ride dog
Repeat

The dog paw? Hidden items you have to dig up.

If you want it to take years.

Going back through the game for S+, it's pretty easy so far in Standard. I've gotten about 5 files completely done and most of the later files I already have majority S+ on the cases.

I tried a few of Olive's missions and the first 10 were relatively easy to S+ as well.

Now Ultimate and the last of the 70 files, how bad are those?

Basically what I've been doing. Can confirm it's taking years on PT Ultimate.

Use it to COOM

It's not that bad. S+ is really only tricky in a handful of cases (holy shit that File 9 motorcycle mission), but for the most part, it's more about just surviving. I died a fair bit because a lot of stuff becomes instant kills, but I think it was a very satisfying challenge.

So now that the final clothing piece has been found and people can complete all the orders, what does Ultimate Accolade do? Nothing but bragging rights?

Oh? What was the last piece and where to get it? I know it cant possibly be a hoodie but Im still curious.

Stylish helmet. It's a reward for doing a string of side quests across the files.

Which file had the mission where you return the ball to a kid?
