Currently playing this, have played a number of tales games in the past as well semi-similar rpgs like star ocean.
Why does this game insist on throwing stun lock nonsense at me? Just reached the harbor town, now need to beat three mooks as Yuri but the bastards attack so fast I just get stunlocked. Did I forget a mechanic, am I supposed to master using critical guard by this point? I haven't been skipping out on battles and am equipped with the best I can get.
Even the wolf boss prior was a pain, though that was more it doing like 200 a swing and having protection half the time.
Am i supposed to just grind to the point of absurdity or some shit? I honestly don't recall dealing with this kind of nonsense in prior entries.

The wolf boss is the hardest boss in the game
The first Zagi fight should have taught you to block
If you haven't already, you might want to master the manual cancel technique. It will save you a lot of trouble against multiple enemies.
never understood why people thought the wolf boss was hard, unless they meant the demo back on the 360 which was a little screwy since you were technically under-level. the best form of action is to shortcut rita's fireball and always have her spamming that spell. in all honesty, when you get it to 10 fireballs it's probably the most broken magic in the game for being one of the first.
I am blocking but with three of the mother fuckers it's proving difficult to not eventually get stun locked.
Thing is I'd actually believe that, then the characters had the gall to say how "easy it was" when they were getting 2 shotted like it was nothing.
Im currently 50 hours in on my first playthrough, and the wolf boss just does a lot of damage. Bosses afterwards are pretty simple, the last boss i did was level 48 and i managed to beat them at level 43. Grinding seems like a post game thing in any tales of game because leveling off of mobs takes forever.
Question for people experienced with this game: am o supposed to have mystic artes in chapter 3. Im pretty sure i am nearing the final battle, and the last 3 bosses had mystic artes. I dont.
I believe you get the weapon that has the special skill in the Baction shrine place.
Karol gets his mystic arte before anyone else if you sleep at Dahngrest five times in a row for no reason in the middle of act 2
Avoiding spoilers i have *that* regarding aer sword. Maybe i missed how to use it.
Free running on manual mode can lead to attack cancels to cut back on the recovery animations. You can get out of nasty situations as well as stunlocking most enemies to death (unless they come in numbers)
Too lazy to explain it. Google it on youtube
yeah Vesperia has the oddest side quests. it's honestly best to follow a guide since a lot are so strict when it comes to doing them.
you just hold the attack button after performing an arcane attack during lvl 3 over limit. the last hit must connect.
You forgot to mention that magic guarding out of a manual cancel lets you go back to neutral position immediately rather than being forced to wait about half a second like regular guarding
Is Tales of Berseria worth playing?
mixed bag honestly. i'm a huge fan of the series and Berseria was probably the lowest point so far. the characters were fine, story was a little odd, but the battle system, personally the main appeal of the series, was just so boring and dull. i'm one for having normal attacks lead into special attacks so not being able to do that felt foreign. however some people seem to like combat so who knows, maybe you will too. also, it feels like it overstays its welcome. that said, most people play it for velvet (and laphicet) or magilou.
did definitive edition fix the glitch where if you do the edgy costume for yuri while raven and estelle are missing, you can get them back if you activate the sidequest and then you can do some dumb shit like have raven in your party vs schwann
Will this game stop throwing skits every 2 steps? Fuck this shit, learn to pace them better, Scamco
Shit, I'm right before that point and ignored doing the Mantaic part of the sidequest so I could probably find out
I wanna play another tales game as a grappler. It's the rarest class in all of Tales. Only one who can actually throw just about every enemy in the game including half the bosses.
Great cast.
You and me both. I don't think we will see this type of character any time soon unfortunately. Jude was the closest, using his fists, but to my knowledge he couldn't toss a mother fucker.
there is a mech they dont teach you until very late into the game, you have to be in manual to do it

Hope you never intend to play Star Ocean 3.
how bad/good is so3?
Very bad
worse than 4?
The story is serviceable and has some pretty good characters.
It's obvious from the first dungeon that the game wants you to backtrack at some point.
The dungeons themselves are annoying mazes (annoying "puzzles" included).
The combat feels stiff and unresponsive as fuck.
You can potentially create OP weapons and armor as soon as you get access to a workshop and ruin the games entire balance.
It's easy to miss shit as it was common to include these miss-able things/events for replay-ability back in the day.
Overall I'd say better stick to the only good Star Ocean (which is 2).
After SO5 it's now considered underrated
I have to admit having played multiple tales of games I have never completed a single one of them. Just got burnt out and stopped
The hardest part of the game is dealing with the dumbshit AI that never heals you. I have no idea why everyone proclaims this to be the best game in the series. I think they were aware of that by the time Xillia came out and consequently that game was too easy
SHARING IS CARING
doesn't sound engaging at all. i'm looking forward to first departure this december so i hope that one is at the very least a decent game.
i actually like 5. it was very basic, but it kept my attention.
just shortcut healing.
I have yet to wrap my head around what First Departure R actually is, since 1 already got a remake for the PSP called First Departure which looks identical to R.
I beat this game on normal 4+ years ago so I decided to replay on hard. I'm getting my ass handed to me every other boss fight. I just beat Dreaded Giant and the tutorial fight after that is way too hard.
Should I just reset my save file and play on normal?
i assumed it was just a port?
you can just change the difficulty in the menu back to normal.
Vesperia is shit
Zestiria is underrated
oh black people, why you so crazy?
learn2manualcancel
that solves a lot of the grievances with the early game combat, and is a good skill to have in your back pocket when you move on to intermediate and advanced combo structures
berseria was my entry point into tales. Its had the best main party of the ones I've played so far and the skits and party conversations are great but the combat (probably what most people play tales for) is rather underwhelming and the story takes dives at certain points. I would recommend it for a tales beginner but if you've tasted say xillia 2 and are looking for that same level of engagement from the combat you won't find it in Berseria.
