But that is literally the plot of the entire game. Arguably it isn't even that, as her own depression only manifests where the mountain's power is at its strongest, the Mirror Temple. Her anxiety, anger issues, and defeatist attitude are what the game is about. And the final chapter is about grief from losing a friend and being unable to move on. Nothing is as you think it is.

One of the Devs had a talk at a convention after the game came out explaining how they wanted their design to allow the player to make jumps and get past obstacles with a good amount of leeway to make it feel better to play. They intentionally put in harder to pull off, but faster ways to progress for speedrunners.
If you go from a game like The End is Nigh to Celeste it's so incredibly noticable.
