Kirby is done for. He can't carry on like this. It's time to end the series. We had a good run, but in the end we didn't really have what it takes. If only there was someone who could help us. Someone small and blue. Someone with a long tongue and can-do attitude. Someone like...
Based
Gooeybros need to rise up.
Agreed
Powers + animal friends was surprisingly even better than power mixing. Both mechanics spiced up the gameplay for this series that was never played with again. Except maybe the inclusion of movesets. The ultimate Kirby would combine all these aspects to Kirby's core gameplay.
DL3 was also amazing for it's puzzle levels. Replayability that hasn't been topped yet.
To say nothing of the cute soulful art style and great characters.
Nago is the best animal friend next to Coo and Rick
I want to walk through one of those levels. I want to live in the snow area. I want to build a log cabin and stay there forever. I want to feel as though I'm one with the crayons.
The puzzles in this game kinda make it stressful to play like how was I supposed to know the butt bean guy just wanted to be touched by a girl?
That would be a tons of moves
>Down+b ice+electric with coo
>Drops fridge kirby on enemies
Did Itoi create deadline 3 under a pen name? There's literally no information about the dude that made these Dreamland games
It doesn't have Adeleine, so it's tra- oh wait.
>snes game in 1998
gotta wonder how many americans actually bought this BITD
>god tier
dreamland/dark matter series
>great tier
most of the other games
>shit tier
super star obsessed faggots
IT WAS HIS TURN
>The absolute definition of a missed opportunity
He would have taken maybe 5 minutes to implement. Just let player 2-4 play as Kirby already.
Based thread. Finally started playing these after neglecting the series forever. Blasted through robobot and return to dreamland, bout halfway through triple deluxe now. Can't decide if I want to play return to dreamland or the classic games next.
>why is it Dreamland 3.
It's not. It's literally the black sheep of the original Dreamland trilogy. Super Star was the best, closely followed by Planet Robobot & Dreamland 2.
>Blasted through robobot and return to dreamland
>Can't decide if I want to play return to dreamland
Do you mean Nightmare in Dreamland? Anyway, you should just play whatever you feel like. Just keep in mind that the classic games aren't as action packed with the exception of SuperStar. You can't go wrong with any of them.
Kirby64 was dope bro wtf
Yeah I meant nightmare in dreamland. The levels are really fun in super deluxe so far, at the lava area now. The supersuck ability is a bit gimmicky though, robot armor was more fun.
kirby tetris cup
we've hit the big time boys
>starting with robobot
>zero context for pic related
how confused were you
Extremely. Shit was awesome though, went completely fucking nuts with that entire final boss sequence
this game's art style was kino as fuck, I'm pretty sure they drew everything by hand in real paper and then just scanned it
play Super Star
you'll understand what that thing was, what it was capable of, and why Haltmann having one was such a big deal
That water looks like shit, turn a blur filter on since DL3 has a bunch of background/foreground elements designed specifically for crt display.
I'm pretty sure it just uses the same filter Yoshi's Island did
I'll check it out, thanks user
>Played Nightmare in Dreamland and DL1 a few years ago and had fun with it
>Got Super Star Ultra earlier this year and I really enjoyed it, didn't really like great cave that much
>Met up with friends and played Star Allies and it was great, we got up to the Jambastion
>In the meantime for when we meet up again and finished it, I've also been playing DL3, haven't done a whole lot but it's fun
I don't know why I never tried these games out before.
Make sure you aren't missing out on the True Arenas especially on Triple Deluxe and Robobot
Wait what? What is this?
Tetris 99 has events based on other games
if you play enough, you get a skin based on that game to use whenever
Skins? In Tetris? How does that even work? Not super interested in playing tetris though. Pretty neat nonetheless. Did the post mention anything about a tetris related password for SKC ?
The best Kirby game is KSSU followed VERY closely by KPR
if you play in the cup and score 100 points (takes either 1 win or about an hour of play if you're an average player) then you get 99 gem apples
You know what those two games have in common, and is arguably the reason they are so good?
Jet.
And Nova. But mostly Jet.
A 3D Kirby Super Star Ultra
Bump
DL3 and 64 are my favorite Kirby games. I wish followups to those games could be made.
>Either Galacta Knight is getting stronger with each appearance or each time we see Galacta Knight, it's a version closer to his prime.
>Across all dimensions there is only 1 Galacta Knight, the only way Galacta Knight can meet himself is if he meets his past self.
>Galacta Knight is the only hero who sealed Void that we know, we don't know who the other 3 are.
how did you react?
DL3 would be pretty good if it wasn't for its horrible controls, camera, and physics. It's downright awful to play.
This is my new headcanon.
What?
Mine was that Gooey was the dark matter swordsman, but Kirby got rid of it's negative emotions and replaced them with positive emotions.
That's Mirror world Kirby
Australian Rick from the anime was based
>Played Crystal Shards, Squeak Squad and Return to Dream Land as a kid
>Didn't play Kirby again for years
>Was turned off by Planet Robobot's mech style but then got super intrigued by it when I saw gameplay
>Played it later and loved it
>Went back and played the rest of the main games in anticipation for Star Allies
>Loved all of them
>Then Star Allies came out, just as I finally decided I was gonna be a Kirby fan
>It sucked ass
This hurt more than it should have.
I also had no context on that and it was still my favourite moment in the series, I do wish I'd played Superstar before Robobot now though.
Too bad he only had 3 minutes of dialogue at best.
"Oh cool, they gave purpose to an old asset for shock effect"
I know, but what were they complaining about?
You just sound like a shitty tsundere.
Play Super Star Ultra instead of Super Star, Super Star Ultra is just Super Star, but better in
literally every way, not even joking.
That's not really possible though, they're both present in DL2 and DL3.
They're sad that another Kirby was introduced and forgotten immediately after, he didn't even do much in his own game.
Star Allies' story mode just isn't good.
I already have, and no, fuck those ugly ass cutscenes and filler minigames
Ah, I forgot about that, thank you for reminding me.
It's the most important game in terms of lore.
say that shit again, and i'm bringing up ''the chart'
>It's the most important game in terms of lore.
So? That doesn't make the game good.
It does in my opinion.
So a game could be absolute godawful trash to play, but because it has "deep" pause text and dialogue that suddenly makes the game good? Might as well just have Kumazaki shit you in the mouth and hand you a lore note.
It's Kirby, the worst it has ever been is passable.
Doesn't answer the question though.
Let me guess, you haven't played Star Allies since? Because you might want to try it again now.
Star Allies is a good game, it's just not as good as something like RtDL or TD
Of course I played it you dolt. Let me guess, you think adding more characters and a separate game mode somehow fixes the myriad of problems the base game has? They didn't fix anything, the base game is still shit. Now there's just a good subgame next to it.
It's not a good game, it's boring, sluggish, has awful level design, and the game basically plays itself with the forced AI Helpers. 90% of the level themes are just recolours of other level themes, and 90% of the bosses are just recolours of other bosses. Heroes in Another Dimension is genuinely good, it has proper puzzles, varied and innovative level design, and a somewhat decent level of challenge, all things the base game lacked, and still lacks. On its own, HiAD is really good, and so is Soul Melter EX, but the base game was never fixed and will always be trash.
It's not good, but it's not bad.
>It's Kirby, the worst it has ever been is passable
and how long do you think that's going to last if people keep buying Star Allies tier games because "muh lore"? game designers are lazy assholes, user- if you give them an inch, they'll take the entire goddamned continent and then have the nerve to whine about the property tax afterwards.
I guess that depends on your standards.
It's better than RtDL, all it's got over SA is being more original than the subsequent entries for being the first to use that formula, and Magolor (who is just a new Marx anyway).
>TD
You must be joking
That's an over generalisation, besides I trust Nintendos quality control.
Triple Deluxe was amazing.
The great thing about Dreamland 3 is that it essentially has you control characters that are actually way more interesting to play than Kirby and gives you level design suited to their abilities that sometimes turn into shortcomings.
Admitedly, as much as I like the Kirby franchise, the character of Kirby isn't that fun, because if things ever get too overwhelming, you can resort to flying away, but that isn't fun. Every animal buddy at least limits to a certain extent, and with the exception of Kine ( Who's clearly designed with Water in mind ) and Rick ( Who's levels are often designed around wall jumps or bouncing on enemies ), they also get to enjoy keeping the momentum Kirby carries from a dash into his jump more consistently, since initiating flight with Kirby kills his momentum.
>It's better than RtDL
What fucking dimension are you in, user?
HAL should pull a Fire Emblem and introduce a Classic Mode and a Casual Mode. In Classic, you only have 6 hit points, just like in the original games, while in Casual you have the modern bar that decreases damage taken the lower health you have.
I despise every kirby game except the one that OP is describing
kirby as a series just feels so empty somehow, there are too many options centered on kirby himself, and not enough variety in the world design, which is all just crayon fantasy stuff
oh look I can shoot a spinning thing, so what
another
for the longest time i thought rtdl was the best kirby game cause it was the kirby console game we've been waiting for for so long
but adventure came up from behind cause of what it accomplished on the nes
as for the kumazaki tetralogy i think each game has advantages over the others
rtdl has great level design and progression with the option to choose to use the gimmick or not
tdx added dodging and new moves to old abilities
prb had a gimmick that actually added a layer to the usual abilities and allowed new puzzle solving options but couldn't be discarded at any point unlike rtdl
KSA having ability combos is a huge advantage over the other games but their limited application put a dent in their usage
also KSA tried too hard to be super star 2, treating each chapter like a respective subgame from KSS
kek
I feel like the most important advantage in gauging how good a game is should be the gameplay. If the level design, puzzles, and difficulty isn't good, then what does expanded movesets or power gimmicks or ability mixing matter?
soon
triple deluxe is definitely under rated especially with the extra lore that got added after the fact but robobot felt alot more grand and epic, as much as I like the sectonia death laser at the end, the robobot drill ending was just too good.
Yeah, no. Super Star is possibly the worst kirby game, it has nothing going for it other then multiple moves.
why do you say it's bad user?
well the design of the game and the characters' abilities is essentially a balancing act
the more the character can do, the more options they can have in any given situation
but if every situation is the same, there is really no need to use different abilities outside of preference or the need to obtain collectibles
flexibility and options are my most favorite thing a video game can include, though, so i'm more than likely biased
It's dangerously close to being the best one. It grows on me every time.
It's not the worst but it's sure fucking overrated, should have been one seamless game and not split up into gimmicky subgames. Final boss saves it.
read a book
That's kind of what I meant. Having tons of abilities and characters to choose between is awesome, and adds a lot of variety to the player and flexibility to the game designers when it comes to level design. But if they don't make the level design good, if the level design doesn't really gain anything from the abilities or characters, then it's all for naught. Especially if the level design is so poor it hurts the enjoyment of the game.
I honestly feel like Marx is the one sole reason why Super Star is as popular as it is. The game itself isn't really outstanding by any normal gaming standards, it certainly has been outshined multiple times since its original release. Yet for some reason a huge chunk of people here are adamant that it's still the best game in the series.
i think the true discussion lies within which should be prioritized: character abilities or level design
while the levels being designed apropos of the character could lead to a more fluid experience between the two
while designing the levels first could allow for more creative worldbuilding and such
im personally on the former side, as you can clearly see
It's not as good.
I am biased mostly because Kirby SS had the most memorable music to me and my Mom would watch me play an co op with me sometimes.
I've always wanted both sides, I love deep and creative world building and I adore having tons of characters to choose between, but to me personally, the level design is the most important, so I'd gladly sacrifice one or the other if that's necessary to keep a high quality in the level design.
That's really wholesome user
Dreamland 2 and 3 were the peak of kirby level design and had the most interesting puzzles
The inclusion of massive movesets for every ability didn't do anything great for the series, animal friends that transformed your ability into something new was a lot more unique
No to all of that
t. brainlet
Who is the best animal friend and why is it Pitch?
RtDL EX > PR > RtDL > TD > SA
Amazing mirror is the best Kirby
>Looking forward to Planet Robobot so much
>Listening to Triple Deluxe's sound tracks.
>Youtube casually spoils the Star Dream/NOVA and Dark Matter bosses
I fucking hate those clickbait thumbnails so fucking much.
Best Kirby game is SSU and if you disagree you're wrong
Nah, the SNES is really particular about colors. Even if they did scan it, they still had to go in and color every pixel by hand.
Same with Donkey Kong Country. It's not like modern day computers where you just throw a picture file into a program and shrink it. It was super annoying to do. The fact that it looks good is kind of a miracle.
>best kirby game
>has an inferior 'Kirby's Dreamland' section as the first game.
>Great Cave Offensive
These are the two things which keep me from considering it the best.
it's good but the map could've used some work and some of the bosses were just glorified rip offs from nightmare in dreamland, I think if they made a Kirby metroid-vania again they should add a milky way wishes mechanic that let's you use any abilty whenever so long as you've unlocked it but you can still get abilty's from enemy's.
I'd love a monster-boy styled hand drawn metroid-vania Kirby game but that'd proberbly never happen.
>that pic
God damnit I will never not be disappointed that Star Allies didn't just give us Zero^3. Void is so inferior.
I'd love a Hollow Knight styled Kirby metroidvania Clash-esque battle where we unlock Dream Friends as we progress and they can reach new areas Kirby cannot. Weird concept but I kinda like it.
interestingly enough, in the beta of Kirby 64 there was going to be a feature like that where you had to play as other characters to solve puzzles.
heroes in another dimension does this as well but it is linear.
Void is Zero
Zero Point Zero
0.0
Yeah, it's such a fucking shame they couldn't keep it in due to Nintendo fucking up the 64DD. I would LOVE a K64 remake with this put back in.
Void still sucks regardless of its l o r e
I like his hulking beast form, it's one of the most unique looking.
I would love it if that was its only form, but instead its true form is just a baby-fied imitation of Dark Matter.
almost like they should've done discs instead of cartridges.
but hey at least we got majora's mask out of that blunder so it's not all bad.
>dark nebula is such a joke that void uses it for Armour
Hal really loves acknowledging memes huh?
That's the intention, Void Termina is a couple of hours old when Kirby fights it, no shit it looks like a baby.
And I don't like that concept. I wish they didn't make the final boss and god damn fucking baby.
SA is my second favorite of the newer games because of all of the side stuff. Soul Melter and HiAD were good challenges and guest star is just a ton of fun to rip through. Void is peak Kirby final boss design too.
So because it's intentional, you cannot dislike it?
It used a special filter that blended pixels together, resulting in that crayony storybook look.
That said, it took a divine touch for all those perfect color choices.
did you forget that the void heart was sealed for eons by aeon hero and three other hero's?
hyness couldn't break the seal so he broke the jamba heart to bypass the spears then reformed the heart with negative energy to give raise to void termina.
>Void is peak Kirby final boss design too.
Termina is 10/10.
Void is 0/10.
This game has barely any level design, it's a bunch of simple rooms in a straight line with some enemies strewn about, litteraly worse than kirby 64, the slowest game in the world.
Zero isn't any better.
You sure you're not talking about Star Allies?
I know you've got a beef with the design design but I'm talking about the battle design. Shifting between a pretty engaging shooting segment and standard combat was a great idea. If I were to talk about the actual design Void Termina is indeed a 10/10 while Void is just a kind of neat take on the spheres we've been fighting throughout the series.
>forgetting about the puzzles and challenges.
Never said it was
The battle design is goat, you're spot on about that
>shadow Kirby
>being useful
>ever
laughing_star-allies.jpg
It also shows that they shouldn't have too much trouble with 3D bosses when they finally get to making that 3D Kirby game.
So what is DDD actually wearing? A bedtime outfit? Looks like it from the robe and napping hat. Kinda also looks like Santa's outfit
Hell yeah, the 3D parts of the boss fight is easily one of the best things Star Allies gave us.
The 3DS Kirby games are kino, prove me wrong.
youtube.com
But I don't want to prove you wrong
I wish the next Kirby gets fancy camera angles like 64 and PR
Wrong picture
Robobot is easily my favourite. The armor was actually a fun gimick that saw a ton of use and wasn't just a "Press 1 button to do the thing" kind of power up like Return to Dreamland had with those super abilities.
Did anyone 100% Kirby Clash Deluxe on the 3DS? Any good strategies for farming rare fragments?
for 3ds? leveling up and doing harder quests and building up your hero rank typically does it.
The best parts of Kirby is when you don't play as Kirby, funnily enough
Meta Knightmare & Animal Buddies all have more potential than Kirby
I'd love a Meta Knight game with fixes to Meta Knight's abilities ( Mainly less invulnerability frames on a bunch of moves ) and more intricate level designs. It could be really fun. Keep the bosses as they are, Kirby does bosses extremely well aside from a few exceptions ( Fuck you Pyribbit )
You know
Landia's theme that plays for the 1st phase of Galacta Knight's battle in RTDL is infinitely more fitting than his actual theme, as good as it may be.
Landia's theme on Galacta gives him a sort of fallen, exiled dimension to his character. It really goes in line with his original story of having been sealed in the crystal for being too strong.
A different kind of power is being exposed with Landia's theme: Galacta's actual theme and intensity works toe to toe with Galacta's own power, like this IS the theme of the strongest warrior in the Galaxy. Landia's theme has the added layer of dangerosity for you: It sounds almost hopeless for you, it's a bit more subtle.
>Tricking someone into playing NiDL when the superior remake exists.
Truly devious, user.
>almost like they should've done discs instead of cartridges.
What would (the game formerly known as) Kirby 64 have been like if it were delayed for GameCube?
You’d be able to switch between Kirby, Ado, Dee, and Dedede at any given time, and all 6 animal buddies would’ve been playable to some extent in some way. That is, of course, given they didn’t end up with too many characters on their platter and thus would have to cut something out.
I often wonder how different gamecube rtdl would've been compared to what we got.
magolor's concept art was really gnarly.
what is that?
I actually like this one more than the one we got.
Probably like how Kirby Air Ride ended up - completely different. (Wasn't Sakurai's dissatisfaction with the development of that and NiDL contributing factors to his departure?) And if it was shortly post-anime, they'd redo the aesthetic and shoehorn Meta Knight into it so it would no longer feel like KDL3's direct sequel, since I think the only Shimomura game that the anime even loosely acknowledged was KDL2. That, or it'd have been flat-out canceled. Short game or no, I'm grateful for what we've got.
If they just gave us an HD remake with an Extra Mode containing the cut stuff then everyone would be happy
Honestly after coming back to DL3 on Switch with fond memories of playing it as a kid, I don't think it holds up *that* well beyond the fantastic music and aesthetics.
I always used to beg for them to bring back power mixing and Animal Friends but in reality, modern Kirby's approach to powers (make each one essentially its own fighting game moveset) is a lot better than the old days (loads of power combinations each with one surprising effect but limited utility). Almost all of the challenge in DL3 comes from the fact that most of the copy abilities are slow and cumbersome to effectively use or attack at awkward angles.
The missions in each level are also a cool idea but have generally poor execution. If I didn't remember the solution to most of them from back in the day / wasn't playing on an emulator with rewind I would hate these irritating tasks that frequently force you to replay a stage because there was no way to predict what would be needed. Shoutouts to the Donbe and Hikari stage where you just have to pray you picked the right option out of several branching paths through a long autoscrolling section.
Lastly, the level design is frequently mediocre. I'm not going to pretend that Kirby games are usually masters at this, but there are way too many lengthy repetitive rooms in this game where you just walk forward, hit an enemy, walk forward, hit an enemy, repeat ad nauseum until you get to a door.
All that said, the music and aesthetics alone really do keep the game relevant. No other game quite matches the brilliant crayon art style and it's hard to stay mad and any of the annoying quirks when Ripple Field 1 is playing. Still, I'm glad that they ultimately followed the design philosophy established by Super Star for the modern incarnations of Kirby.
QUICKLY! Post your three favourite Kirby characters or El Rato will freeze you over!
What if I want the rat's cold touch?
While understandable, I think the stance towards abilities is actually a good thing: That's what allows DL3's Boss Butch to get away with sending you out there with no ability. I can't imagine doing that with Star Allies at all, for example. Some abilities in particular have gotten very versatile or generous in the way of invulnerability frames. It kind of forces bosses to be more or less of a clusterfuck than before, though older titles aren't nearly as much big offenders as SA, but still. I appreciate the manageability, yet reasonable difficulty of bosses with no ability or with a majority of DL3's abilities that are more puzzle oriented. It's a different approach to game design for sure, so again, completely understandable that some dislike it.
Not that guy, but I'll try:
Superstar is the first Kirby to play like a beat-them-all. It added a lot of abilities in movesets that only allows to kill enemies in different ways, and rarely add much to the depth of the game. A bunch of random abilities are also added, such as jet, yo-yo, and ninja, that albeit being cool, are thematically questionable and only serves to kill enemies in new ways. And worst of all, the addition of a block button, wich I think is the single worse mechanic in such platform games.
I still think Superstar is a fun game that I like to play, but it was originally a spin-off that breaks from the formula of previous Kirby games that used slower-paced action and power-centric puzzles, as seen in KDL3 with animal+powers combo and K64 with power-mixing. But mostly due to Shimomura's (alleged) untimely death, Sakurai's vision was ultimately favoured and the following Kirby leaned more and more towards adding a lot of different powers (and hats!!!) and expanding movesets, while making the plot more cutesy, without the somewhat darker undertone and peculiar art direction of the Dark Matter trilogy.
The culmination of this could be found in Mouse Attack/Squeak Squad, being horribly short and easy, with a fake mixing mechanic that actually do practically nothing, a lot of useless or extremely gimmicky powers, and a lowest than low scenario of Kirby gets his cake stolen.
I think the latest Kirby games are leaning toward the good direction, but the powers need a serious reduction in movesets, blovking is not good, and really, who thought it was a good idea to add circus, doctor, or goddamn bell powers?
Gooey, Chu Chu, GIM.
Well, the first iteration looked like it would have had multiple games like Super Star according to one of the menu concept, which would have been interesting. The 3D second iteration looked too experimental imo. The cell-shaded third one with the upgradeable ability meters is my favorite. I like the new hat designs in the first version though - hard hat Hammer Kirby is seemed pretty cool. I guess HAL decided to keep the twisted headband because the Rocky enemy already had it. I wonder how far along into completion they all got, because it seemed to take up a lot of time at HAL and they tended to outsource the released Kirby games around this time. desu they may really have been lost for a while without Sakurai or Shimomura at the helm, but I'm sure there are other reasons.
Forget the aesthetic, the entire gameplay would have been reworked, because HAL decided at this time that Super Star's Kirby was the definitive style of the series going forward. No way they would have allowed a platformer like Kirby 64 to release unscathed post-2001. Focusing on the Dick Drive earlier in development was not a smart move. The only benefit to a delay is that the entirely pointless Ado/Adeleine debate (which, somehow, revived recently after we all thought we put it behind us) would probably never have been a thing.
Was that the version that removed all the slowdown? Playing the NES version on Switch sadly has all the massive slowdown that an original NES would have.
Yeah, I can appreciate the choice of a more puzzle oriented design. I think 64 did it better but DL3 is still an enjoyable game overall.
I think the beat-em-up elements are what really set Kirby apart from the multitude of other slower paced puzzle-filled Nintendo platformers, and I'd even argue the adherence to elements from the older games are what's holding modern Kirby back. It makes no sense that they keep making these expansive movesets to dispatch enemies with extremely basic movement/attack patterns that die in one hit anyway, the bosses are the parts I enjoy the most because they're actually a match for Kirby's abilities (although as the other user said, I could do without the abundance of i-frames that lets you cheese them). I would love it if they just go all the way and design the gameplay to actually require mastery of your abilities and their movesets to take out normal enemies.
>Ado/Adeleine debate, somehow, revived recently
What, really? But why? I guess the fundamental question must be asked...what the fuck did the wiki do this time?!
>Brought back Nightmare
>Brought back DM Swordsman
>Brought back Dark Meta Knight
We're kinda running out of things to bring back, so we're gonna start digging a little deeper. Is it time for her return?
Adeleine, Taranza, Sirica
>I think 64 did it better
No way. 64 was just a bunch of color coded things. DL3 had more variety and was just all around more interesting.
Give me Brobo or give me death!
Answer me you fucking borbs
Meta Knight
Kirby
Kracko
I like Super Star (Ultra) for its episodic structure and how unique each sub game is compared to its other subgames. It's a good amount of variety for one game. Obviously other games have perfected the formula, but you don't see Kirby raiding a battleship again until Robobot, and even then you don't get the enemy chatter. Just think, in Super Star you get:
>Spring Breeze
Reimagining of the first game with copy abilities. A fun callback and good introductory course.
>Dyna Blade
Least unique of them all, but still a fun, brand-new adventure with some secrets to find.
>Great Cave Offensive
An interconnected adventure all about exploration and puzzle-solving. And if you don't like it, you can just rush through it to get to the next one.
>Revenge of Meta Knight
A cool story about taking down a battleship that introduces a lot of Meta Knight's quirks and attacks that stay through the series and has the best ending of all the subgames.
>Milky Way Wishes
The one with Marx, with a really interesting was of discovering and using copy abilities. Also introduces NOVA and contains the game's shooter segment.
Gooey
Dark Matter
Meta Knight
They've been teasing Gryll ever since Robobot with her sticker being grouped together with Marx, Magolor, and Taranza. They even used Kirby no Kirakira Kizzu music in the EX Stages too.
And even if Super Star Ultra's subgames are mostly rehashes, they're still fun.
>Revenge of the King
A play on the original game's extra mode that becomes a parody of Revenge of Meta Knight on the final stage. Reintroduces Kabula to the series and introduces Masked Dedede and his amazing theme.
>Meta Knightmare Ultra
A new take on Nightmare in Dreamland's Meta Knightmare that gives Meta Knight an expanded moveset and introduces our favorite Joborb at the end
>Helper to Hero
Not much to say here, but playing as Helpers is fun.
I didn't even mention Gourmet Race, the other small subgames, or both Arenas. I just think people appreciate the variety. I want a game that mixes Great Cave Offensive with Milky Way Wishes for a true Kirby Metroidvania. Make it an Amazing Mirror followup if you need.
Meta Knight
Marx
Magolor
The evil version of Bronto Burt from the extra mode of the first game will have a star role in the next Kirby game.
It's actually not the usual suspect this time, believe it or not: it's some German dude going around several websites and insisting that the confirmation still wasn't direct enough.
Koozer was already in SSU tho
How? We even have some official products like the manga suggesting that Ado and Adeleine are one and the same, and literally nothing saying otherwise. It's such a braindead argument at this point. Okay, so Kirby Wiki wasn't technically at fault this time, but really once you start enabling others through your own artificial canon culture, denying basic facts is almost where it ends up.
Where is he going?
To Hell.
Destroy his boat
Will we ever see a sequel to Air Ride?
I always like great cave offensive the best
Back when I thought Ado was a boy, I headcanon'd them as twins, but even before I learned she was a girl, I woke up one day and thought..."That's just fucking retarded."
pretty sure his hat is or was meant to be a stylized crown of some sort- the circlet is gold, the red dome is cloth, and the white piece is either a plume or a tassel
Prepare yourselves for the Kirby event tetris 99 starting this friday, get 100 event points to get the super kirby clash theme permanently and 99 apples for the game.
tl;dr: "That other encyclopedia translation didn't preserve the nuance of Japanese language and isn't a literal confirmation, and because it's the most recent anniversary book, I will proceed to ignore every other observation that conceivably contradicts my totally flawless conclusion!"
Where's the version that shows RtDL and Star Allies?
Let's be honest though, a tag-team painter boss starring Ado & Adeleine would be a sick way to revive that battle style. It's never, ever, EVER going to happen, though. Because they're the same character. And because teaming up with Paint Roller sounds like a more fun to mix it up.
>Hyper Zone 1 hogged all the remixes while Hyper Zone 2 has never really officially been remixed
I'm still mad
Speaking of Hyper Zone 2, man Zero is actually more challenging than I remembered. Going full health against it is fine but even at half health going between Dark Matter & him right after can be pretty tough.
no
Reminder that the Clockwork Stars are powered by dark matter. Reminder that Marx SOUL is dark matter infused Marx. Reminder that this is the only reason why Star Dream was able to replicate DarK Matter Swordsman.
The only people who disagree with this post are the people who screeched that Magolor Soul wasn't Dark Matter possessed. Hopefully they all killed themselves the moment Void Termina summoned the Master Crown.
>Painteleine
Hell yeah.
>source: dude trust me
If that were true, Star Dream wouldn't have had so much trouble making the DM clone

Meteorz on suicide watch
Too bad Dark Matter is at least two different concepts (the boss character and the cloud substance), so the idea of it being the series' overarching villain was kind of shot down.
So...that begs the question, what exactly is this Kirby encyclopedia's credentials anyway? I swear, if it's the same dipshits who made the Mario and Zelda encyclopedias, I'm going to have to smack a bitch.
Fun fact: one way to remember how to solve Donbe and Hikari's stage is that the desert of Planet Robobot ripped off that same puzzle.
Paint Roller teaming up with Adeleine sounds rad.
That said, be prepared to have Paint Roller be limbless.

"I noticed you haven't bought any apples today..."
Pretty neat. I liked the usage of that theme for H3-D3 aswell
Might want to check out the Star Allies song Bad Boss Brothers, which is used for one of the last collectable pictures in the game.
They didn't bring back Galacta Knight's Meta-Knights yet. Seriously, what was up with that?
>Nintendo 64 Dick Drive
>DL3 is only good for its aesthetic and music. Ground control is clunky, all momentum is lost with flight, and Kirby's air speed is horrid. Too many random sections of levels are slow auto-scrolling segments that go on longer than they should. Level themes tend to blend together and feel samey.

I'm tired of Meta Knight fights, tired of Dedede being involved in the plot, and tired of Kirby sleeping in the intro.
Nintendo is not helping your business, they are going to give 99 free aples to people that get 100 event points in the incoming tetris cup.
>there is no reason to play Nightmare in Dream Land
Eh, it's not THAT much of an unpopular opinion...
If you wanna see real contention, mention Kirby Super Star/Ultra.
The original reason to play Nightmare in Dreamland was being able to play the NES game without the framerate being single digits for half the game.
Suzy is the only character from the recent games that I like and even then I think her actual design sucks because of the Rayman limbs
>can't even spell her name right

Facts don't really count as unpopular opinions.

God I miss that

Gee I wonder why the TAS doesn't slow down.
>>removing unique colors for abilities was a mistake
Only thing I agree with. Or let me pick a color
The controls in this game are kind of wonky and some of the power combinations are actually a detriment to use outside of their designated puzzles.
Neat game otherwise. Chuchu is cute.
Someone post that gif of 4 Ratos chasing Void Termina. I can not find it.
I get why they did it, though - ever play NiDL's 4-player co-op? It's fucking impossible to keep track of which color you are. Wish they brought it back in single-player games though.
Can he mate with everything like a Ditto?
It was just underwhelming. And that's without the hype. With the hype generated by being the next mainline after robobot and being the first kirby game on switch, star allies looks pretty bad. It's easily the worst of the modern mainline games in my opinion but that doesn't mean it's all bad. The dream friends and their exclusive levels were nice fanservice and despite the story being boring, it is technically really important to the overall lore. HIAD had at least some interesting ideas despite not being amazing and being visually repetitive. And for what it's worth, the combat is the best in the series despite not meaning much in the end because bosses can't be juggled and the enemies that can be die in 1 or 2 hits. If it weren't for the dream friends and combat, star allies would be really forgettable but it's not the worse game I've ever played. It's worth at least one play through.
>ever play NiDL's 4-player co-op? It's fucking impossible to keep track of which color you are
NiDL didn't change your color when you got an ability in multi. You were always Pink/Yellow/Red/Green
>Whats the best Kirby game
Superstar.
I'm OK with recycling bosses as long as they do something new with them. So far most of them have had an interesting fight or narrative purpose, although the Whispy Woods and Meta Knight fights in Star Allies were pretty weak compared to their predecessors.
Agreed that they definitely should do a story focused game though. I love the lore and how you kind of have to piece it together yourself, but I've never liked how much of it is relegated to end game boss pause screens when it could be actually integrated into the game in more interesting ways.
It also had 4 player co-op.
What the actual fuck, I distinctly remember this being an issue. Did I have a cursed copy or did I come from the Berenstein universe?
The game kind of feels like a tech demo IMO, but I have high hopes for the next big Kirby game
>Link cable
Into the trash it goes.
I mean considering kirby rarely ever leaves his fucking house unless he's looking for food or going to kick somebody's ass to save the day I think it makes sense that meta and dedede would often be involved in the plot as they're gonna be near the danger as well when it comes to dreamland. I do agree that the whole "meta and dedede are possessed again" excuse to make meta and dedede fights mandatory in every title is starting to get annoying though. They need to introduce more recurring characters or have kirby leave pop star for a while. Maybe just for a trilogy of games before going back. I mean the universe is huge, why does every game need to start off on pop star?
I honestly want to see this style used again.
m8 they link to each other on their main pages
I wanna pet it
I doubt they'll ever go back to spin-off exclusive styles unless they remake them
>Kirby himself really isn't that fun to play, and level design across titles has never been stellar. The best way i'd compare it is with Super Mario Sunshine's Hover Nozzle. The way Kirby's flight halts your momentum & his pathetic air speed makes it very unsatisfying, but for first playthroughs it's hard to go by without: It's an easy route out of danger.
>The increasingly powerful nature of Kirby's abilities through cheesy properties ( See: Archer, Invulnerability frames up the ass on a lot of abilities like Hammer & Sword ) has turned many Kirby bosses into overly flashy messes & not as intricate as they could be, especially with No Ability. I think Pon & Con in Dreamland 3, as simple as they may be, are one of the best bosses of the franchise. The inability to drop down after having an enemy in your mouth, the limited space to get into another side of the stage, the potential waste of a hit on the lesser enemies just so they don't hit you, the jukes with the bombs. It is a perfect utilisation of Kirby's abilities & shortcomings. I still love Kirby Bosses and revel in their flashiness & grand music, but admitedly, I don't think they're that greatly designed.
>Voiced Narration in a Kirby game shouldn't be a thing: You can keep dropping hints of lore as text when fighting bosses, but I think Kirby & friends work better as mute: They emote greatly in the Shinomura trilogy with a great peak in 64, which is my favorite game in terms of narration: Every little cutscene tells you everything you need to know about the characters introduced, or is just wholesome. Take King Dedede's introduction cutscene: He stands proudly in his castle, until he notices the crystal, which Kirby tries to grab, which initiates the two's antics until Dark Matter arrives and posesses him. Next cutscene, he's adamant to join Kirby & friends, but does so anyways. 2 cutscenes and so much of Dedede's personality is displayed: Pesky towards Kirby, but well meaning.
>it
Nago's a dude.
Is Coo a girl? I remember people saying that was the case in the anime, but not sure if I believe.
Coo is male
DL2 manual refers to him as he
>Nago is male
>No penis
Oh I'm laffin
I miss Kirby's pale pink.
I miss when kirby was white
Why is this game so depressing?
>that opening
>the way the animal friends look at you with jealousy and disappointment when you pick someone else
>the sadness and despair from the characters at the end of a level when you fail the mission
>some of the music tracks
Because it was the last first-party SNES game in the west.
Why do I always hear Zelda?
Would a Kirby RPG work?

>I wish Kirby went back to the times were villains were simple and didn't have tragic backstoies, it gets old after a while
>Dark Matter is one of the worst inclusions to the Kirby franchise
Yes. I really want a Kirby RPG like the Mario and Luigi games
here
The closest thing that remotely resembles an RPG right now is Super Kirby Clash but it’s more of a action rpg and not a turn based.
It could definitely work but the real question is would it be a completely new or would it be a retelling or the clasic kirby games?
Nightmare is the perfect JRPG antagonist.
I wouldn't call it sad, but more melancholic and "real". KDL3 is one of the few Kirby games that didn't just focus on Kirby and his friends and in the general feeling of "happiness", with each mission you were introduced a new character and each one had their own objectives and motivations, some of these being good and some being bad (like that one level where you had to kill all the flowers which were clearly sentient living beings). For me this game presented a Popstar which, despite being a fantasy world, it wasn't an always "happy place", with the introduction of all the characters in each level it presented us a world that actually had depth and wasn't unidimensional, such a shame characters like Meta Knight didn't make an appearance here though.
The next kirby game should have jet. Star allies ruined jet by making it exclusive to susie and not letting you climb up walls by repeatedly bashing into them
Can we get our boi Capsule J back?
I'm tired of the Capsule Jx running gag.
I love this remake so much
I could see Nightmare being a reoccurring boss like in Super Kirby Clash but I’d wonder how you could make it more interesting? Perhaps some one else is working in tandem with Nightmare? Maybe Marx and Nightmare teaming up to destroy kirby once and for all.
>looks almost exactly like twinbee
why do you think they changed it in the first place
I always thought of Nightmare as more of an incorporeal consciousness given form that was only able to be defeated with the Star Rod, not some actual living breathing person.
Why bother still alluding to the original though? They could have called Capsule J2, Capsule J, and be done with it.
>thread still up after even after I got a full 9 hours of sleep
it's kirby's adventure
Honestly they should give the Amazing Mirror Formula another shot imo, I wouldn't mind what other features the game had but that semi-open world, metroidvania-esque was rather neat and I think would compliment some shift in the way the stories are told because RtD, TD, PR and SA all had rather similar stories especially the last three. Like TD didn't need to be stage based like it was, the way that game was structured they could've had it be one big hub world with areas branching off leading to the five level bosses protecting Sun Stones and had Royal Road as a final area. The same with Planet Robobot imo.
I’d assume that Nightmare would be able to at least understand that fighting kirby alone is a bad idea seeing as he was beaten by him. But if that’s not believable to you then maybe I can work some with more substance later. Maybe something to do with Kirby losing his ability to copy because of Nova shenanigans so he has find all of the wishing stars. I don’t know I just shooting the shot right now.
Yoyo was my favorite ability in Kirby's Adventure
Is kracko a girl, since it gives birth to waddle doos?
Bump
I want dreamland 4
No, it’s just so fucking pissed off that it wills them into existence.
Oh shit, this is still happening? Sweet.
Now I remembered KARG. Fuck.
It basically happened already in Mass Attack's mini-game, that being said a Party-Based Kirby game would be novel especially if each Copy Ability acted like a class/job
Kirby you can’t say that, this is a christian board.
Did something happen to KARG?
I haven't played it in ages but I loved 64 as a kid. The idea of mixing powers was super cool to me. I'd honestly love a 64 "classic" but I really don't want to use the trident controller. I'd rather use a USB gamecube controller or something.
Unfortunately the two games that tried Copy Mixing didn't do the Crystal Shards approach, Squeak Squad was just elemental variants of Sword and Bomb while Star Allies was that but with some more abilities and very light degrees of true element mixing although nothing near what 64CS did
I saw what they were trying to do and while it wasn't bad it just sort of forced you to have X team members rather than getting to experiment with powers like in Crystal Shards. It kinda sucked.
>Planet Robobot is not and will never be the apex of Kirby
>as much as I miss 64's unique thematic identity, I don't mind Super Star getting the priority as long as the 64 cast sticks around
>Star Allies was overhyped and didn't look nearly as impressive as everyone was suggesting, at least until the Dream Friends mechanic was introduced
>Kirby should stop appearing in Smash so that Sakurai can stop pandering to his shit headcanons.
My main issue with the mixing in Star Allies is that it didn't feel like it was worth implementing, why implement a gimmick when you've done it better in the past, it's the same with Hypernova, why implement it the way that they did when the Super Abilities were better? The thing that really killed it for me was when they revealed Curling Stone but then also that it was just elementally varied with Water.
I think if they were going to do proper Ability Mixing in another game they should keep to strictly elemental-like abilities to allow for better mixing;
- Beam (Magic themed) or ESP
- Fire
- Ice
- Leaf
- Spark/Plasma
- Stone
- Tornado
- Water
maybe also Light if it's not shit again.
Oh also probably like Cutter/Sword or some new ability to fill in the blade/weapon slot
Since this thread is still up, I'm open to some sketch requests
lewd is fine too lol
Can you do a Meta Knight/Galacta Knight-esque character for Beam or Cutter Kirby?
>Can you do a Meta Knight/Galacta Knight-esque character for Beam
So a Beam esque Knight character but instead of a sword they use beam?
That sounds cool!
Rollerleine.
Yeah

Eh, its better than RtDL, TD, Dreamland 1 and 2 and Squeak Squad.
