Remember there's a huge wall separating anor londo from the other areas, sun hit the wall making the lower areas dark.

The gap is pretty wide, there's no reason a decent amount of sunlight wouldn't get through.
In fact, if you look upwards at the sky while standing in Blighttown all that light that should be coming through will come through and everything will get much brighter.
