Midgard is the perfect intro sequence for a game, that's why it's so loved and remembered, because is tight, fast paced and set up the entire base of the game without wasting any time, youre keept full invested for all the duration without dead time, that's why its so memorable.
If you dilatate all that, you will get a slog start with too much information and unnecessarywasted time. If they are making midgard this big, they must enlarge all the rest of the game, or else the rest of the plot will look like a joke comapred to it, and if they will do, they will need at least 5 episodes to do all FF VII

They aren't any left in SE, the only one that was present at the time of FF VII making was Nomura, and at the time he was just a simple character designer and never put a finger on the game other than doing the characters artwors. Also was his first main job in Square at the time, "stealing" Amano's job.

The problem was never the visuals. Square isn't good about trimming the fat, keeping the game true to its roots. There has been a lot of fluff/lore added to the series over the years, and there is a lot of unnecessary external influence to remove/change content.

Yes, there is no way that they can keep up this level of content and density while keeping a good story pace with the rest of the game, they are basically fucked and even they know that that's why they are not start working on episode 2 untill episode 1 is done, because they dont fucking know what to to and wha to ear peoples feedback on what to do and what not.
Also midgar is pretty dense, while all the other location ahve all very short story, except maybe junon, so they have to put alot of development time for location that in the original took about 30 min to complete, even if they stretch that inot 3 hours, ist still a huge letdown because of all the location chnges they have to do in episode 2, because to keep up with the density of episode 1, they had to reach at least costa del sol or the jenova fight in the boat.

They fucked it up by making it episodic. Say what you want about how the graphics/gameplay looks but FF7 is not an episodic game, and no one is going to enjoy having the story drip-fed to them over the course of 10 years.

I think the game itself actually looks pretty decent. Although I dislike the amount of on-screen clutter caused by the constant damage numbers and always-visible enemy health bars. Standard attacks seem to not even do a fraction of a percent of a boss's health so their damage text may as well just be omitted to help keep the action visible instead of seeing a billion 1s and 10s covering the enemy at all times. Only ATB moves should make numbers pop up.

Health bars don't need to be visible at all, they weren't in the original game. They should only be visible if you use a Libra/Scan spell or something and even then boss HP should show on the HUD instead of covering the action. Same thing for name plates and ability names. If there's multiple targets you only need to display the name and target reticle for a few seconds upon first switching to that target, then they can vanish. Having them always visible is just more unnecessary screen clutter.

And I'm hoping it's just because it's early in the game but the enemies and bosses are seriously fucking non-threatening. In the video with the Aps, the boss attacks maybe like twice in the entire fucking fight. He just dances around getting hit and jumps to the wall occasionally, it's pathetic. If that's the standard then enemy aggression needs to be turned way up.

Cutscenes being more detailed and combat being more actiony has nothing to do with the total content or length of the game. It makes it harder to develop but this doesn't justify splitting up the game because you want to make 3 times as much money. It is already completely clear just from the trailers that the story has TONS of new scenes added that were not in the original so there's absolutely no case to be made for the assumption that they're not purposefully stretching out the story for the sake of an episodic format.

And furthermore, these are video games. It's not like a movie where you sit down in a theater and consume the whole thing in one sitting. There's no limit for how long a game can reasonably be, especially a JRPG. Making three 30-hour games offers no advantage to the player over a single 90-hour game, it's purely a benefit for the publisher since they get to sell it three times.

Clouds fucking oneitis for Tifa's Tifa's was a huge part of his motivation before he went and got brain raped. Everyone knows the beats of their relationship, and Tifa's shift from literally just playing along to spy on him to actually caring about him was always kind of abrupt.

there were a lot of areas left out and characters barely fleshed out

the entire game was rushed not just midgar, tons of cut content due to time limitations. Just adding the cut content back into the game is enough to turn Midgar into its own game.

As an example the flying "ghosts" you see in trailers are cut content, originally floating parts of Jenova covered in cloaks that would appear before you through the game. They cut it and repurposed it in the final game cause it was too long of a substory.
