Honestly there's only so much you can do to make a cartoony, stylized artstyle like Borderlands look better and more hi-def until you start going too far towards realistic zbrush-itis PBR out the ass textures and break the artstyle.

they showed some very neat shading tech to add crosshatched shading to objects in realtime at a GDC talk a couple years back but that ended up not making it into the game apparently.

That's not the point, the point is that BL3 shouldn't run anywhere near as badly as it runs considering it looks like a glorified PS3 game.
It should have no problem running at 1080p60 on the base PS4, no reason it requires an XboneX to even get close to that.

Huh. I never really noticed an issue. I'm running on ultra including all the advanced graphics settings and max FOV. I'm on a 165HZ G-sync 1440p, 9900k/2080Ti combo and the absolute lowest I've seen is 85fps. Maybe my standards are just lower. As long as it stays above 70 I'm happy.

It would be nice to see proper FPS though.

It runs fine UNTIL one of you opens a menu. Then the game chugs at 5 FPS (not exaggerating, it actually runs at 3 to 5 FPS) until the menu is closed.

Pretty decent, definitely nowhere near Platinum's best, but not bad. Combat is a bit finicky and the environment traversal can be a pain at times, but it's a pretty good game.
Performance is absolutely awful though, especially in some of the later files (like the Plaza).
Solid 75/100 game personally.

I've played 2 7 times all the way through, pre sequel 4 times and 3 once. Honestly it isnt that good. The gunplay and movement is expanded upon which is great and some new skills (mostly by boy flaks) are pretty fun, but it literally looks just like pre sequel and has even more forced pandering and LOL RANDOMNESS. I'm fine with it because the good gameplay makes me tune out the dogshit story and dialogue but I can 100% see people not wanting to put up with it. Also handsome jack was a way better villain it feels like every interacting with the twins is the exact same God complex bs at least jack had multiple ways of acting like and asshole.

Randy Pitchford should be killed for all of that pedophilia and everything, but view model animations are usually different than world model animations.

It runs better than Kiwami 2 on PS4 Pro (1080p40-60 vs. 1080p30) but it also looks much worse.
Kiwami 2 can at least get somewhat close to 1080p60 on max settings on an RX 580/GTX 1060.
