It's fun and I'm okay at it but I'm completely uninterested in playing competitively. Seems like nothing more than basically memorizing an algorithm. No fun at all.
Honestly learning how to play was far more fun than actually playing is now that I've hit a plateau that only grinding an algorithm will get me past.

I think the problem with puyo is that there is a steep learning curve and until you get to the point where you can always make good chains fast it really does feel like memorization. At a certain point it's more about watching for what your opponent is doing, countering that, and baiting them. A lot like a fighting game. Getting to there can suck because it feels like you're playing against the game more than the just the opponent.

I actually got into it from the first game.
I mostly got into it for the hype music and retro anime aesthetics.
I can get a 3 combo pretty inconsistently but enough to trash my friends at Puyo Puyo Tetris when they play Tetris and I play Puyo.
I don't really dig the new Puyo Pop style.
I liked how gritty the original game feels in comparison, if that makes sense.
Looks like an off the shelf obscure but really well made anime ova from the 80s.

I started playing it because i like puzzle games and also because i like Ocean Prince
I do well enough against hard AIs but i'm sure an actual good player would kick my ass fairly quickly.
