There is something extremely wrong with CRT collectors. You have to have something very wrong with your brain to claim a 20 year old piece of AV equipment is worth anything more than $10 and to actively PAY for obsolete garbage that'll be dead by the decade's end.

B-but it makes pixels look better, user!! It's worth the money, I swear!

People who live boring, pointless lives try to inject meaning into their existences by any means possible. For some, that means becoming obsessive collectors.

and for others, caring about what literally who's do by posting on a an anonymous board

What's the matter champ? The $800 CRT you ordered on eBay finally shit itself?

>buying something that heavy on Ebay
>spending hundreds on something you can get for free or at most 20 bucks

Attached: Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049.jpg (2016x1512, 1.18M)

> CRTs remove serialization delay when used with pre-7th-gen consoles (plus wii)
> old games frequently used little tricks that relied on CRT to make themselves look better
> creates a more authentic experience as a whole
CRTs do have the benefit of being the best for retro. But for actual modern games? Dear christ.

Now imagine paying hundreds for a used game disc or cartridge that can be downloaded for free.

Why the fuck DF is shilling those obsolete TVs?
Don't they have anything better to do?

CRT is just a superior display technology, there's a reason why literally everything looks better on them.

>superior

>take up three times as much space
>extremely soft image compared to any LCD
>physically limited to around 30" because they're so monumentally bulky that it's not feasible to make bigger sets
>weigh a fucking ton

No. There's nothing a CRT can do that OLED can't.

>>take up three times as much space
has nothing to do with image quality
>>extremely soft image compared to any LCD
wrong, and a level of softness is also desired which is why so much time and money has been spent on trying to get LCD to look less shit (it still looks like shit)
>>physically limited to around 30" because they're so monumentally bulky that it's not feasible to make bigger sets
has nothing to do with image quality, bigger CRTs exist
>>weigh a fucking ton
has nothing to do with image quality
noticing a pattern here? OLED shills (dead tech btw, has no future, already being replaced) have no arguments against the superior display technology.

higher quality brightness/perfect dark levels and upscaling,no input lag at all,the only drawback of it are either caused by company greedness(they dont make these anymore, and finding an HD crt is even harder) and weight which literally doesnt fucking matter once it's set

anyone that owns a crt should be rounded and put down for the betterment of society

Except have a far more incredibly clear an concise image. Just stop bro. You're 100% right about the bulkiness which is why they're not made any more. But pretending that CRT isn't vastly superior to OLED at comparable resolutions from a purely visual standpoint is just ignorance.

digital foundry have been proven retarded time and time again, why are you surprised

weight is the most important thing since zoomers have to move once a year on average

my 80 year old grandma had one, but her digital to analog converter broke, and I couldn't find one so I had to buy her an LCD

>extremely soft image compared to any LCD
Maybe TVs in composite, but definitely not computer monitors.

Attached: HL2 Ep1.jpg (4032x3024, 3.46M)

It looks sharp because of low-resolution jaggies, not the monitor itself. Try again.

CRT owners are literally just hipsters in denial

I have 2 consumer sets, 2 PVMs, 2 VGA monitors, and I am about to spend around $3k for a widescreen BVM.

>planned obsolence babby lecturing anybody on obsolete goods

I hope you die.

Better my ass. That picture looks like shit.

round up hipsters and anyone with nostalgia for garbage as well

Would you ever describe 1024x768 on any LCD or OLED in existence as "sharp"?

>his sample is a cheap shit dell monitor he probably found on the side of the road somewhere

A flatscreen newer than 2006 that was not made to be office leased surplus might fare a lot better user.

No because they're not meant to be used at that resolution whereas PC CRTs are you unbelievable retard.

Sorry going into a good profession which pays me enough to get involved in my hobbies triggers you so much.

So a CRT manages to be sharp even at low resolutions then, imagine it at higher ones. I would provide an example using that monitor but all I have to hook up to it right now is decades old computers.

>Only proof i have is this (biased) picture from 10 years ago

Its obviously a school tier dell monitor.

>imagine it at higher ones
The delusion. CRTs looks SOFTER than LCDs at higher resolutions, and CRT faggots tout it as a great victory for the hardware that "it has anti-aliasing built right in!!!"

They haven't improved much really. The technology is just flawed.

Attached: black levels.jpg (2000x2033, 572K)

You're all such faggots. Raging homo smegma slurpers. Imagine caring so much what someone else does with their time. You want an irrefutable, all-encompassing reason I have CRTs? Because I want to have them. I need no other justification.

>They
Ah yes, because TN, IPS and VA panels are all identical, as we know. Btw a high exposure image taken in a dark room is not representative of how the human eye works.

>posting even more cheapshit monitors, most of them dells

Guess what pal, most crts have pretty poor black levels too.

Oh look its that one guy who thinks he can tell people how to spend their money.

>CRTs looks SOFTER than LCDs at higher resolutions
That makes zero sense.

>most crts have pretty poor black levels too
oh youuuu

>most crts have pretty poor black levels too

Attached: 1529200985876.png (384x240, 5K)

Thank you for proving you've never seen an HD CRT of any kind.

Its a 1200p monitor. The only reason that LCD took over its because it is extremely cheap to produce compared to a CRT of the same size and they believed that the image quality was good enough. It actually isn't. CRT has the best result in colors, view angle and rescaling. No pixel bleeding, real actual blacks, no burn in (it actually have burn in but it takes a decade of the same shit on the screen to that happens). The only good thing that LCD has is that doesn't take any space. The price is only low for production, since they sell 50" panels that are cheap af to make at sky high prices.

Like those "audiophile" shitheads who collect vinyl and cassettes claiming they're superior. No, no they fucking aren't. It's just retard hipsters with way too much time on their hands wanting to be apart of something and latching onto stupid old shit to make their boring lives a little more tolerable and companies are capitalizing on their stupidity. There's a reason CRT's, vinyl/cassettes and shit are obsolete.

>HD CRT
I'm talking about computer monitors.

Those ARE HD CRTs moron.

Beause they testet and showed the results. That's what they always do.

last

>new vinyl sales are more than CD
>vinyl is obsolete

Bitch they're soft as shit. I will admit they look amazing when playing a game partially due to their innate softness smoothing out jaggies, but the point is they're not the end all be all of display tech and are certainly not worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

>No because they're not meant to be used at that resolution
What an idiotic statement. There is no resolution that they are "meant to be used". 1360x768 lcd's exist.

>last
Is this why the capacitors and flyback transformers in CRTs are dying en masse?

Attached: Vinyl Fanboys (10).png (1832x217, 44K)

>stop liking what I don't like
Based as usual

Vinyl suffers the same fate as flatscreen TVs.

The techonology is actually great, but the entry point for a halfway decent vinyl system / TV is around $300 and up. Most people simply cannot afford this or consider it 'too much' for a tv or record player and buy a Dynex or Vizio or Suitcase player , and suddenly all flatscreens TVs suck or vinyl is just a meme after all. The equipment certainly does matter.

Attached: 1529913525580.jpg (1600x1105, 386K)

LOL shithead trying to make himself feel better about falling for the obsolete meme, probably blew a large amount on the meme too "it makes me feel better than listening to CD's" "muh endorphins" LOL ffs.

IPS solves the problem and monitors with it start sub 100

>IPS solves the problem
Of bad black uniformity and contrast? Not even close. You also get "IPS glow" when viewing them at an angle. IPS is the best all around tech for anything except contrast and black levels, speaking of monitors of course.

>There's nothing a CRT can do that OLED can't.
have decent motion clarity

RIP Shad

All this coping in this thread
My crt outputs insane image quality

Using BFI on an OLED gets you some pretty fucking good motion clarity. I don't think CRTs will be beat entirely in that department any time soon though.

Literal poorfag cope

I can drop a crt down a flight of stairs and it will work. If you sneeze on a lcd too hard it would crack.

Also crts were built to last vs your degrading color accuracy(oled), backlight bleeding(ips), oversized outdated tablets

You're just ignorant. My 20M4U is my singular favorite purchase for retro games. It's goddamn beautiful, and it pairs well with my 1440p monitor that's right beside it. You've not seen anything unless you've seen an RPG modded NES on that thing. It's beautiful and looks like a light bright. They pop out of the screen almost.

Alright user let me explain why you are fucking retarded.

I'm not a CRT fag but i know why they exist. CRTs commonly use progressive scans, meaning that as soon as a pixel is transmitted to the TV, it's displayed onto the screen, no waiting for a complete frame or digital processing. This means less input lag as opposed to HD TVs, so for fast paced games such as Smash Melee or some fighter games, using an analogue signal like this is preferable.

Now of course, if you are using a HD console or are converting HDMI to RCA, you aren't going to get any benefits because the signal is still digitally processed, so you get delays.

Console games are so slow input lag doesn't matter

I can guarantee that you are:
-a virgin
-at least 25
-never went to prom
-dead end job/unemployed living off NEETbux
-never gonna finish college

If you’re so autistic you actually compare basic resolution and vibrant colors that can easily be modified on smart TVs, you have absolutely nothing else going for you in your life, and you must immediately kill yourself.

>RPG modded NES
Nice phoneposting fag.

>that can easily be modified on smart TVs
That cope lol.

what happened to him

Can I see the report detailing how you're legally retarded?

God fucking kek the cope lmao

i mean, sometimes its not the consoles fault. You gotta understand some of these consoles work on so little ram and CPU power that there's not much you can do with it, and it's easy to run out of resources. Hell there technically wasn't enough ram for SMB3, thats why theres that glitch on the right side of the screen because they cant keep enough of the game world in vram offscreen, so they focused on vertical instead of horizontal.

I'm 27, working 6 days a week, have had nearly four girlfriends since my undergrad (and countless tinder escapedes) teach martial arts, have lifted for half a decade, am saving for a car and have my masters degree and I'm working on teaching in schools. I'm also in the process of getting closer to the girl I actually like and she and her best friend are coming over Saturday. You have no idea what you're talking about, and it's literally the sour grapes. I have money to spare, because I'm not an idiot.

And again, PVMs are goddamn gorgeous.

liar

You can see the tasteful thickness with a CRT.

timestamp your body then.

Where the fuck do you even get a decent CRT these days?

>inb4 just look at Craigslist for used ones
None of them are decent CRTs like the FW900. Not all (not even most) CRTs are good, especially none as good as the Trinitron FW900. I'd fucking buy a used FW900 but I can't find any.

Why can't Sony just manufacture them any more as collector's items? People would buy that shit up in a heartbeat just like the PS Classic or SNES Classic.

Go to the site, look at what he posted in the description, read the comments on his last picture

It's over

no i looked at his twitter already

Didn't the ps classic flop?

>buy a 2k gpu to run control at 1080p 60 fps with full raytracing effects
>watch those effects on a 15y old monitor

I have nothing to prove to a seething fool like yourself. I'll do it, but I'd get reported for posting a shirtless on an unrelated board. Maybe you should visit /fit/ you rubberneck.

>just like the PS Classic
It didn't sell that well though.

>implying CRT isn't the poorfag option

nice cope. post it and then delete it 5 minutes later.

i unironically believe that anyone caught using old tech should be just killed on the spot, no judge, no jury

>normalfag doesnt know how to bypass a ban

that's dumb

you have to do some cursory research on what in general to keep on the look out for, then look for closing businesses that may have been related to advertising

>Why can't Sony just manufacture them any more
dude the manufacturing equipment has been decommissioned for over a decade, even with ultra premium profit margin prices it's not "worth it" to bring them back with the manufacturing availability being completely gone
starting it up again would have an insane cost

What's a good CRT for playing shit like PS2 on?

any

Thank the mastering for that. And mastering has been in the digital realm since early 80's, go read up on sonic solutions and big boy mastering DAWs that have nothing to do with audiophiles and only real sound engineers know this

As far as I know there are no new CRTs being produced anymore so this tech will become more scarce as time goes on. However as of right now you're right, CRTs are still common enough that you can find them in a lot of thrift stores. Any time I visit one I will see at least one CRT for sale.

youtu.be/5eu_KjKsnpM

>tldw: CRT is just blowing up a small image and distorting to get over the fact that they can't actually keep up a good screen resolution.

You couldn't refute the argument so you spazzed out.

Gamestop is redesigning all it's stores and they might ALL INCLUDE CRTS.

CONSIDER THIS A WARNING.

CRTs are very likely to spike in price soon.

Attached: new gamestop layout.webm (240x426, 2.85M)

Hahaha holy shit this is hilarious. It’s the shoehorn effect. old CRTs are great for older systems but once you get past GC/XB/PS2 you’re just being fucking stupid

It is literally impossible for CRTs to go up further in price. People are already shelling out thousands on them.

>CRTs are very likely to spike in price soon.
I don't care as long as the technology comes back. In the past year or so I've been trying to find some good monitors and it's a pain in the ass.

Why do incels always get mad when people do things they enjoy?

>People are already shelling out thousands on them.
Only for the ones that people actually value because of their quality. Which is less than 1% of all CRTs out there.

I have an old CRT I use for my old NES, that's it. The cult around them is retarded but they are nice for authentic nostalgia. However if you catch me paying $500+ for one feel free to hurl a brick at my head because I obviously deserve it.

If crts are so great how is literally impossible to replicate it on modern display designs? They’re not made anymore and I refuse to believe it’s purely because of the bulk and nothing else.
Is new technology believing developed to surpass it?

The reason they aren't made anymore is because no one makes things at 240p anymore. That's the point of CRTs.

Holy kek, the larp
Still BTFO that retard tho, lmfao

Then why is this faggot in the OP playing a 4K game on one and saying it has advantages

>how is literally impossible to replicate it on modern display designs?
Phosphors blending together does some weird shit, that's why.

Just imagine how fucking heavy a 65" CRT would be, and also how expensive it would be to produce and transport. That should answer your question.

Explain

Reminder this anti-CRT faggot is falseflagging and using this video as an excuse to keep posting these shit threads.

I think there is some emulator in VR that is like 99% accurate to a composite CRT in terms of display. Although I think the input lag is still a problem.

>a 4K game
He's not playing it in 4K idiot.

Why would a modern crt need to be big? Surely it’s possible with a little engineering effort and modern tech to use that technology in a more slim way if it’s so m great looking.

Oh so he’s playing it in 240?

I unironically use one for a main. 1920x1440p@85Hz with 0ms feels so good.

I don’t think most crt fags like composite save for some composite exclusive genesis effects.
And that’s not what I’m asking about any. I know it can be emulated I’m just wondering why the tech hasn’t been improved on if it’s so great.

It can't be a larp when it's true. Nothing I've mentioned is impressive in the least. I need to get my first blackbelt degree because I've been lazy, and I've admittedly been lifting on and off. So I'm not exactly swole but it's coming back . Some girls like the look. After a long break I'm back at my 2pl8 squat so I'm at least happy.

I don't understand how hateful people think they can generalize about someone based on their hobby. I like retro vidya because after being thrown and kicked in adult classes, and screamed at all day by kids I like to mellow with old games like Dragon Warrior III or Fire Emblem on my NES everdrive.

No clue. If it were 240p there'd be scanlines. The best (and rarest) pvms/bvms have 480p comparability, but most only go to 480i which can look blurry. It's a waste if his media is being converted to 480i because it just looks bad.

Older games could use composite artifacts to produce colors outside of a system's color range due to "artifact" colors produced by phorphors bumping into each other.
youtu.be/niKblgZupOc?t=392

Old CGA monitors use this & so did some arcade games.

>obsolence

Attached: file.png (1600x1150, 2.6M)

90% of LCD monitors have terrible black uniformity and shitty flashlighting and clouding. Go to RTINGs and look at almost any 1080p/1440p monitor. It doesn't matter if they're TN, IPS, or VA.

So why is the guy in the OP doing that shit and saying it looks better than?

Speaking of weight you should lose some

Then don't buy the garbage ones, it's not that hard. Clouding is also partially a quality control issue and will vary by unit. VA is the only LCD tech with good blacks anyway, like I posted earlier.

rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/32gk850g-b#comparison_1420

tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_32gk850g.htm#uniformity

Not really sure. HD CRTs are sometimes a mixed bag (and also really rare) because it's a digital signal. If it is a true HD CRT, it should support up to 1080i.

Typically the advantages would be the 480p support, more vibrant colors and a better refresh rate than most HD televisions. Really though, HD content is always better on a computer monitor, and sub HD is almost always better on a CRT/pvm. When you have to upscale things can get weird input delays and get gross.

I'm no expert though so if someone has more info im all ears.

>than
Because he's getting hung up on motion clarity as opposed to any other aspect of a display for gaming. You can go ahead and watch the video instead of asking retarded questions.

Western Genesis games were really fond of dithering.

Attached: comp.png (1381x476, 239K)

Are CRT televisions more energy efficient? The size is cumbersome as fuck

I wasn't talking about dithering, watch the video.
They're giant lightbulbs, so probably not.

CRT's have positives over newer displays. They have 0ms delay, which unironically feels better to play on - it's weird at first. Scaling resolutions on them is wonderful. Think of it as a cheap way to get an above 1080p display. Now, you can also overclock the display rate, which can also be great, and which is important - you need to go 75Hz and higher to avoid flicker and horrible headaches. I use one for a main display at 1920x1440p in games with 1280x1024 on the desktop.

The fucking nostalgic scrappers actually fucked up the pricing hardcore. Now, shipping these is expensive, and can result in broken screens if shipping is cheap. So, around $60 for high-end shipping options and a little bit of pocket cash is reasonable. No, in the past 3 years, the past month especially, prices have been going up since more people have learned about the benefits of CRTs, ironically negating the entire point of "above 1080p and/or high-fps&low-delay for pocket change."

Last is the nostalgia. It only somewhat applies to me, we had early LCD's in the home, CRT's in school. Feels comfy on my woodgrain-decorated PC's, one being modern and the other being a retro build.

For any anons looking to get one for the price they're worth, check Faceberg marketplace, craigslist, or ebay. You'll likely need an HDMI to VGA adapter, one that allows the VGA cable of the monitor to connect to an HDMI port on the GPU, and NOT one that allows an HDMI cable to plug into a VGA port.

>Are CRT televisions more energy efficient?
No.

You getting paid by Samsung, or are you just obsessed?

Attached: crt_tricks.png (938x507, 429K)

What is shown in that video is dithering though.

Thanks for the info, that means there is no reason to obtain one, unless you were poor as hell. The waste of space and weight, more power used and lesser quality image definitely has no upsides compared to a LCD.

Well it depends, do you focus your gameplay on games up till the 6th gen ? If so, there's definite advantages to a good PVM. You can get a nice tiny one with RGB support and boom you've got the best way to play any 240p game.

the LCD panel is already made in the second video :^(

And i bet you're some zoomer faggot that doesn't like old shit period, no matter what it is.
Old shit doesn't get produced anymore, increasing the price.
That's economy basics retarded poor faggot

Convince me to get another one.
I used to play all my PS3 games on it and I admit they do look great. MGS4 and the American flag in TLOU are the ones I can recall.
My problem with it are the tiny texts being warped by the lines. I could hardly read subtitles in ME2 and MGSV was cancer. Then there’s the weight. But if there’s a chance Death Stranding is gonna look kino on it I just might go for it again.

Attached: 27243E50-81AF-4D11-B0BD-2633FE9AD78C.jpg (774x1024, 60K)

Why was my simple generic samsung syncmaster CRT capable of 100+ hz, yet my generic LCD can't be can't even be set to anything above 60?

I have one as my main monitor, the only downside has been going from 144Hz to 85Hz, but the nonexistent input lag and nonexistent response time is unbelievable. I enjoy comparing gameplay on both monitors. If I wasn't a kid, and was a tech chad back in the day, I would've bought a real-high end CRT the second they went out of fashion.

Why would you view a computer monitor from an angle?

I like CRTs. They're absolutely a better display technology for games. I wish I had kept one or two around, if only for light gun games.. But there's no way I'm going to buy a decent one and have it shipped to me for a few hundred dollars, now that the nostalgia market has made them desirable and expensive again.

>Then don't buy the garbage ones
Motherfucker, I just said 90% of them if not more are complete garbage. How can anyone defend that figure? You have to fucking launch a private investigation asking around on forums or wait for RTINGs/pcmonitors.info for in-depth reviews just to finally find the 1 model out of 20+ that doesn't have a completely dogshit backlight and still has your preferred resolution and refresh rate, and even then you still play the panel lottery with bad clouding and dead pixels. It's a joke. QC is a massive issue with LCD monitors and to a lesser extent with TV's.

Attached: awdawd.png (1920x863, 200K)

If you know how to clean electronics, you can find good CRTs at pawn shops and goodwill for next to nothing. I've picked up Trinitons at goodwill.

You can continually increase your resolution without much issue. I manage 1920x1440p at 75Hz. Really incredible how smooth it is. Don't play new games at old resolutions, it actively hampers your gameplay.

I'll take a pic of a new game on both and post it later. I have a Dell 873s, and it actually has no set resolution. I can get it up to 1920x1440p@85Hz, and so long as text scales well in game, all is well. Trying this a couple weeks back, I loved it so much I made it my main.

Many have no set resolution and depend more on something like a grill to divide the image. The one I got scales without issue so long as text scales up, so I have above 1080p for less than $20.

Any CRT that can accept component video is fine.

I have an old 17'' CRT collecting dust. I don't care for it one bit. I won't miss the burning sensation in my eyes after 1 hour of use.

Literally any SD CRT that isn't a flatscreen. Toshiba, Sharp, Sony are better but most other brands are still good. You don't need component just for PS1/PS2, you'll have a headache finding non-flat CRT's with component. Component is only really necessary to get analogue 720p/1080i out of PS3/360.

Attached: ff1d4e789c2bae9cc101940453b93647.jpg (640x640, 33K)

CRT monitors use progressive scan, not interlacing...

Actually, PC monitors are not like CRT TV's... you can just keep upping the resolution, depending on the monitor, without much issue. I have 1920x1440p going right now.

>Literally any SD CRT that isn't a flatscreen
If you have the space for it one of those giant flat Trinitrons are great for PS2 in component.

Flatscreen CRT TV's have shit geometry that gets worse with age. You have to get really lucky to find one nowadays with acceptable geometry. I had a 27" flat Sharp SD CRT with component that had good geometry but sold it years ago like an idiot, since then I've fucked with 5 other flatscreen CRT TV's that all had very bad geometry that couldn't even be fixed in the service menu.

The fact that we don't have lag less OLED/LCD/LED monitors is a fucking crime, in 2019 there should be literally no latency at all no matter the size, resolution, or connectors on the monitor.
Any company who says its not possible is lying.

I find flat CRTs to be pretty shit
mostly because they most do a poor job at flattening the screen and it looks weird on the corners and sometimes the pictures is offcenter

I have two Trinitrons, one is just slightly off center to the right and the other has a small spot on the top left where the image becomes fuzzy. Nothing major but I wonder if there even still exist any that have perfect geometry. Their size alone makes them ideal for light gun games.

Always wanted a flat CRT so I could flip it on the side for muh shmups.

Digital Foundry knows their shit though. I'll happily take their word over yours, user. Sorry, not sorry.

>Gamestop rebrands back to FuncoLand

Display tech has never been worse for people that truly appreciate good image quality but also appreciate motion clarity and responsiveness for games. You either have one or the other today, meanwhile 16 year old CRT monitors had the perfect balance without compromise.

>digital faggotry trying to further diminish the FW900 supply

>crt's

this meme has gone far enough
they're bulky as fuck, deteriorating quickly, near impossible now to repair, emit a loud humming noise, and offer little to people other than nostalgia. There is not one CRT TV that has an appealing look outside of the screen, they're nearly all the same garbage 90s and 00s designs that invested tech in the period. as OLED and whatever other LED they come out with improve in image quality and availablity to consumers, CRT is going to die out. The CRT does little that a high end modern TV can't. I've heard this whole argument for the blacks or whatever but it's just more retarded babble from people who don't know what high end stuff is capable of.
The future of gaming isn't in playing games that look like shit on TV's that look equally as shit. The future is resizing, remastering, retexturing games to run better and in high quality than ever before. CRT Filters through emulation has essentially wiped out this entire thing and for good reason. I'm going to take a $35 Pi on my HDTV with a CRT filter over my old SNES console and CRT TV. Killer Instinct looks 10 times better on a modern screen and it can emulate higher end CRT TV filters while you're stuck with a natural display on a CRT, and usually a piss-poor one at that.
CRT has never made 3D games look better, and anyone who disputes this is a fucking retard.

>oh shit my monitor has glow when I put it on a black screen.

Here's the test

testufo(.)com/framerates#count=3&background=none&pps=960

Try it on a PC CRT and compare with your 2019 modern display

component is necessary to get non-shit image quality regardless of resolution unless you play vidya exclusively in black and white

what's a good min value for "Black Uniformity"?

user, why must you get my hopes up like this?

I got Ready in my Benq monitor, but what does that mean?

motion clarity

A black screen just helps show more accurately where the bleeding/clouding is. In most cases it is still clearly visible in any scenario where the screen isn't completely uniform bright white.

>Imagine seething that an old tech is better than your shitty inceLED in 2019
OH NO
>imagine calling other people's lives pointless while browsing a Chinese origami website on a board about videogames
NO NO

just for the record, you're a bit wrong here
vinyl itself has better audio quality than a CD. That's not really a debatable fact. I've been listening for over a decade and a half and I can tell you even vinyl rips are better than any CD rip. There are a lot of artists who alter the mix or "remaster" something after the fact
The digital audio tape of the original recording always exists, but how they mix it changes over time, and nearly every single release changes some aspects of a album, no matter how minuet it might be. The Bowie albums from the late 70s and early 80s have poor quality mixes nowadays that change the original sound to a more... modern version. Not only that but during the 1990s the whole wall of sound craze resulted in some of the worst releases in music history. They purposely made music far too loud and destroyed a lot of the dynamic range and fidelity. Vinyl has a reason to exist as a high quality recording, as it contains a lot of older music in original mixes. It is far superior to CD in terms of fidelity and if you're arguing this point then I think you have actually no idea what you're even talking about. Of course, modern digital releases are the highest quality.
cassettes on the other hand, are dogshit in terms of quality. Always have been. always will be.
a decent vinyl system does not cost this much. you can get a very high quality one for probably $170. you're not of the generation where people spent a lot on high quality audio equipment, but there was a time where this was considered incredibly cheap. It was not abnormal for people to have $700-$3000 setups.

>the state of the average poster on Yea Forums
Smartphones were a fucking mistake.

Gamestop is dying, you fucking retard.

It varies between each individual monitor so you play the panel lottery no matter what. You could get one with slightly better uniformity or slightly worse or sometimes much worse, but very rarely much better. That 1440p/144hz 32" LG is the only monitor on that list I'd consider buying. Also the rating number alone doesn't always tell you everything, go look at the actual images of the black uniformity. I personally would rather have a lower contrast (grayer blacks) backlight as long as it's mostly uniform across the screen, what's the point of a higher contrast backlight that is darker in some areas but has bright cloudy spots and BLB all over it.

Since when have digital foundry become such resetera posting faggots? At some point they actually did good videos

S-Video has better colour than cheap PS2 component cables since it washes the image out.

So much coping in one post lol. Cameras really don't do this shit justice. It looks incredible in person.

so buy good component cables, $30 isn't steep for a cable that lasts you.

Looking at other videos and discussions online it seems like it's a PS2 wide issue about component being brighter.

people throw them out all the time, and it's nice to have something that plays my old shit

your geometry is fucked bro

>Teflon is the future man, throw out your cast iron cookware!
This is how retarded you sound.

Bruh look at that fucking face

yeah and this runs better on my 144 refresh rate monitor with no scanlines

I had one, but the transformer was going out so I got rid of it. Probably should have kept it in retrospect.

It was a good monitor BUT it had a variable dot pitch, so the center of the disable was noticeable sharper than the edges. And of course if you're used to LCDs with pixel perfect pixels then CRT geometry is not that great by comparison.

Can't wait for OLEDs so IPS light bleed is kill.

tv crt and monitor crt two different things

I would explain why in some aspects and uses they are superior, but you have shit for brains.

Attached: 1568598103416.gif (500x281, 991K)

They're still made, just for medical and milspec only. Vast majority of consumers want flat panels and all RnD has gone into that over the years. You see tech in OLED to have better blacks, etc. It really is because of the bulk and because regulatory commissions and environmental orgs wanted to stop their production.

nigga how bright is that tv, I have OLED and no burn in after a whole year

Well we both know this isn't true, it's okay user, the first step is acceptance

that's WITH commercials too, not even a static image

This test is considered a control, with the 'OLED Light' set to a brightness of 200 nits.

The TVs will all be controlled by a microcontroller to repeat a five hour on and one hour off cycle four times per day.

The 'Screen Shift' option will be enabled on all TVs, and 'Pixel Refresher' will be performed before each set of measurements taken on each TV.

this discussion is so stupid. CRTs have:
- virtually no input lag
- perfect black levels
- support multiple resolutions without scaling
- perfect motion resolution (no sample & hold)
No LCD can achieve that (OLEDs can match the black levels). LCD/OLED have only the following advantages:
- higher spatial resolutions
- flat
- HDR
- bigger screens
It's pretty simple: For gaming CRTs are better because of the technology

Digital Foundry never knows what they're talking about. Their videos are best watched on mute. The info like resolutions and fps come up so you dont have to listen to them bullshit about topics they seriously lack proper knowledge of.

>HDR

Can't CRT's technically display HDR content since they're 10bit, have perfect color, and have fuck-huge contrast and brightness?

>"CRTs are heavy" as a con of CRTs

I don't understand. Why are you lifting your monitors?

They look better than regular lcd's, worse than high quality led lit lcd's and don't even compare to oleds.
I remember when I got my first LCD that I was instantly disappointed in the way stuff looked on it. Then I noticed that the burning sensation in your eyes from 6h+ gaming sessions wasn't there anymore and tossed all my CRT's in the bin.

OLED with HDR has the same amount of input lag as CRT (see: resetera.com/threads/crts-have-8-3ms-of-input-lag-addressing-a-common-misconception-about-display-latency.40628/ ) with a much deeper color range, sharper image quality, much smaller and more portable, and convenience/ease of use

Now fuck off autist.

>they're 10bit
They're analogue

To get /fit/, ignore those lanklets

This place just lashes out at anything they can’t buy. Fucking portage taking a backseat in their own fuckingng hobby.

OHNONONONONOONONON AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA

>wrong, and a level of softness is also desired which is why so much time and money has been spent on trying to get LCD to look less shit (it still looks like shit)
So is it better or worse? You can't have both.

>only 60 Hz
plebe

These are the same people who use cushion and tv bars filters.
Do not try to understand the mentally ill, it's a good thing if you don't.

Just say they are bulky and heavy, user. It's the reason I ditched mine during a move. Pretending they have lower image quality only makes you look like a fool.

Can someone dump some audiophile cringe? I love seeing those $10000 dollar setups of cable frankensteins and stereos

Vinyl and old tapes (not cassettes) do have a better sound quality.
However, as with super high quality monitors this has an unseen downside. You get used to it. So, after a few weeks, maybe a month of listening stuff in super HD, your enjoyment of it goes back to base level, but listening to music on a lower quality system starts being painful.

I played Sekiro on a friend's OLED, and I swear I've never seen a game look as gorgeous as that. The guy had it for a few months and was barely impressed. But put him in a room with any other monitor and he won't stop with how shitty it looks.

What about the radiation melting your eyeballs? Every CRT nostalgia fag here ignores this very fact.

Its funny because i've posted many scanline images and the retards here couldn't tell the difference LMAO

Attached: RetroPie How To Add Scanlines And Shaders Raspberry Pi - YouTube.jpg (1455x1033, 299K)

I've got an FW900 and multiple LCD monitors, TVs, OLED, etc. FW900 was about $3000 retail so it was never a gaming monitor - it was originally designed for CAD and graphics work. The reason it looks better than your average LCD is because it has higher contrast than TN/IPS, faster response than VA/IPS, and better color stability than TN/VA. Contrast is the most important thing in how good a display looks to the human eye, after that is the color reproduction, then comes motion clarity/response time, whatever other features come after including how many addressable pixels there are, etc. VA LCD has very good contrast, but it suffers from black crush issue which is a physical limitation of the liquid crystal orientation that hides black detail and lower the effective contrast at a direct viewing angle. If you calibrate against this the actual contrast of most VA LCDs is only 2000-3000:1 TN and IPS have shit for contrast and after calibration you are lucky to get over 1000:1 Sony Trinitron's color reproduction isn't that broad compared to modern gamuts, but you have to realize most designers, directors, artists, etc. were using Trinitron standard to create most everything in the visual medium to date, so on aggregate it will still look better and more right overall judging by the collective visual aesthetic sense of the whole population. We all know VA and IPS panels are slow as shit by now with gray-to-gray response times that are terrible, and even if they are faster with 120 and 144 hz panels it is because they overdrive the pixels the other way around so they are too sensitive. What made them barely usable at the early stages of LCD production was because the manufacturers played one disadvantage against another and had sample-and-hold blur the screen to your eye enough that you wouldn't see the horrible response time of the actual crystals.

How many more of these threads are you going to make?

This is absolutely retarded and wrong, Vinyl can be ripped to digital formats and remastered to sound exactly the same if not even better with editing just because you've heard some shitty rips to low quality mp3 doesn't mean anything. There is even AI software now that auto corrects errors in vinyl music and sounds 1000% better in digital, audiophile retards just love hearing shitty quality because its "Authentic"

do you even know how far in technology we have progressed from the past idiot

Thread should have ended here.

>The future is resizing, remastering, retexturing games to run better and in high quality than ever before.
>assuming they don't half ass it

The newer backlight technology lets them finally reduce the duty cycle of the LEDs to finally let you see the image properly in motion without completely destroying contrast and brightness. You can see this on HDR displays, usually TVs, with blur reduction, but they cannot be activated together. What finally makes LCD worth it is the size and pixel density you can get now. Any store sells LCDs with a couple of million pixels which is simply impossible for a CRT without hundreds of pounds. This is all part of the democratization of technology - with CRT you had all the good ones made in Japan taking hundreds of man-hours of production and engineering on average and now you can buy millions of pixels literally printed from Chinese factories in Walmart and everyone has a gaming display even though it sucks compared to high-end of CRT, it is at least affordable. OLED is coming along slowly because the technology is still under patents and is a difficult process. Eventually you will see Taiwanese-made OLED panels and then Chinese after that so it will be much cheaper. Compared to CRT it is almost perfect except for the lag because the image needs to be processed so each pixel can be addressed. It will be possible eventually on high-end ones to update globally like with VR displays. On another note, I often see people refer to plasma as having great motion - that is only with the last of the Panasonic plasmas that achieved close to CRT motion clarity by pulsing the subfields faster and brighter. Plasmas before that including Pioneer Kuro had a lot more than 1 ms MPRT and sample-and-hold was required to make the image bright enough even though the subfields were faster than liquid crystals. Only with very bright OLEDs and scanning can you achieve CRT level motion clarity of the full image meaning no matter how fast the picture moves none of the perceived characteristics of color, resolution, and contrast change relative to a static one. charlimit.................

hopefully we all get replaced by machines who work at 100% efficiency.

>No. There's nothing a CRT can do that OLED can't.
survive more than 5 years

i wish i could get a CRT purely for the aesthetics alone but id be pointless becasue i dont have any old consoles anymore and i play all the retro vidya in my pc so it would be just pointless

Attached: 1559820868977.jpg (2464x1632, 440K)

Yes, there is truth to the technical part of picking CRTs. But, much like vinyl, the choice boils down to something else; people like how it makes them emotionally feel.

The hum of a warm CRT hearkens back to a time when things were different for some people. It evokes a feeling of warmth, of familiarity. Nostalgia overwhelms the brain, even if only for a brief moment, and warms your soul. You don't think about how the pixels look. You think about playing that game for the first time. You think about the retro game you always imagined you'd play as a kid but never got to until now. You think about life and how it changes yet can sometimes stay the same.

CRTs have a place in the hearts of the romantic gamer. Of the nostalgic yearning for not necessarily their youth but for an easier time. A time that made sense. That crackle of the screen is like hearing backwards. It calls to you and says, "it's okay. I'm still here."

also you can touch your hand to them and it makes a bzzzzzz feeling

>faster reaction times
>1440p
>160Hz
>richer blacks than any LCD
>brighter colors

Sounds superior to me. It took almost 20 years of LCD technology to get close with high refresh OLEDs with HDR to come close to late CRT technology.

good for you. i'm going to get one and get some old consoles again for the authentic experience. fuck emulators

that video was a cringe advert for that shitty game

>that video was a cringe advert for that shitty game
yup

Why don't you turn your brightness down on the monitor to the right, this proves nothing

You can literally make it as sharp or as soft as you want.

It's pathetic that if we had continued with CRT technology would have much much better image quality than we do now, but as it stand we are still just trying to get to what CRT already did.

SOUL SOULLESS

Wasn't the best CRT the Sony PWM or something, some tv used for production with 20 bajillion inputs?

Is this fuck serious? Please, somebody tell him

This is how posts on Yea Forums look like now.
Normalfag purge when?

CRT is a much better technology than LCD.
1) Perfect black levels
2) Flawless off-axis viewing
3) Much faster refresh rate than LCD
4) Warmer, more natural image (thanks to scan lines and small granules)
5) Far longer life-span
6) Not subject to manufacture problems such as dead-pixels
7) Good range of compatibility with lower or non-standard resolutions without blurring

Given ultimate space and money the world’s best CRT could easily crush the world’s best LCD. So tell me /g/, why do you like your inferior screens that companies such as Samsung have brainwashed you to think is better than what already existed? The only cost-savings are on their end. And the funny thing is you guys keep buying this crappy LCD technology and giving away your free CRTs on Craigslist. A fool and his dollar are soon parted I guess. And before you start yapping about IPS panels: Enjoy your slow G2G response to switch pixels already, not to mention that hidden input and scalar lag. Luckily, CRT has no such bullshit. The only semi-legitimate point I’ve heard against CRTs regards weight, but you don’t bitch about the weight of a prospective couch while furniture shopping, do you? Didn’t think so.

NOOOO HOW DARE YOUUUU

Does anyone make CRTs anymore?

I like the fact that I can play a game at a lower resolution for more FPS, if needed, with no shitty bilinear scaling.
I've seen some pro-gamers play at non-native resolutions on LCDs not for FPS reasons. They're truly retarded.

I have a CRT at home an remember playing GTA v on 360 when it came out.
You literally cannot read the text messages, CRT's are trash for literally all games apart from the ones that were designed for CRTs

There will always be at least 1ms just due to how the tech works fundamentally. It's also more expensive.

>But for actual modern games? Dear christ.
To be fair, they still have uses for twitch gaming. To this day, CRT is still king when it comes to minimized input lag.

What many people don't realize is that modern televisions are terrible for games. After playing something like Super Mario classics on a CRT and trying on a regular LCD TV that you find in most homes, you'll need to readjust to the game so remarkably late. On some televisions, even in game mode the game is impractical if you are really picky.
I think a decent monitor with a fast response is the least expected of those who play video games.
