Just finished it myself too. Makes sense given "Big Boss" is killed in MG1. Kinda disappointed that there weren't more codec calls within the game and everything is delegated to the tapes basically. Understandable considering that Konami was being a piece of shit to Kojima.
The gameplay is still fun, and online is still active, I made my first nuke and some fucking slant Nip bastard stole it - fucking nuke em a third time.

This. i got MGSV free as a PlayStation Plus game in 2017. I was excited to play it because it was my first metal gear game ever and I heard great things about the other metal gear games, plus I love stealth games a lot. So I start playing and it all seems fun but I dont really know who the other characters are and such, like that Revolver Ocelot guy. So I go on the metal gear wiki, search for the Big Boss page and I learn he's a main villain in one of the previous games and I think that's very cool, to play as man who will later be a villain in the timeline.

So I start playing and I enjoy controlling Big Boss and all, I have tons of fun with the game until one day I get spoiled on this shithole board that I am not actually playing as Big Boss but rather as some random medic who looks just like him. That single thing turned me off the entire game and it sat unused until my PSPlus ran out. Because it all felt so pointless, the entire premise of the game is fucked since you dont even play as the badass Big Boss but some random le medic instead xD. Fucking Kojima, thank god that pretentious hack got fired from Konami. Just what the hell was he thinking? Sorry for the blogpost and reddit spacing just wanted to vent a bit.

The ending speech of the nuclear disarmament scene makes me think Venom could've wanted to leave this pain and revenge behind and secure peace, not wage war like Big Boss. Nah. Venom overall doesn't impact much of the overarching story, and you can keep V isolated from the majority the series. MGS4 committed way too many sins against the story itself to get a free pass there.

I had this debate with a friend when he first started playing the game and he's all like "so I'm not the boss... who am I??" and I explain and he's like "but I'm not the boss??" and I'm like dude you've never played any of the other games, you rarely even finish games, you're never going to know the story of this game or any of the others, what does it matter if you're big boss or big dick or clone of big dick's son, it's a good game with good gameplay and a good story out of context.
