Sword and Shield are going to be garbage games, and even if they added the Nat Dex back in it would still be garbage. There is zero effort put into any aspect of the game beyond making sure the character designs are waifu/husbando bait (because it worked for SM). Graphics are horrible, music is bland though I'm sure there will be a few good tracks from Go Ichinose if nothing else, Pokémon design is overly round and stubby on the whole, dev time spent on random bullshit like the Currydex which will all be removed in Gen 9 anyway, the game has nothing going for it beyond the brand name "Pokémon" being attached to it.

I fell off of Pokemon for a few years and got back in with SuMo because I liked the more social aspects of the Pokemon world like fashion, hanging with my Pokemon, reoccuring NPC friends who are also going on a journey like me, and the more personal narrative than DEFEAT THE EVIL TEAM LEADER WHO'S TRYING TO DESTROY THE UNIVERSE WITH THE VERSION LEGENDARY plot every game since RSE has used. It's a very cute game, and SwSh looks like its building on those parts of SuMo.

The only way any of this makes a lick of sense is if they made Home a battling hub ala Stadium or Collesium etc. That way you get your single player experience with the mainline games, they can work with the pokedex however they want, and then when you actually want to build a team and play online you have access to every pokemon from each gen. You're playing semantics. Recycling is still cutting corners in any game. In some it is more or less noticeable depending on the developer's skill.

With a game like Marvel 2, the recycling is obvious but tolerable because the elements are blended together into a new thing that is still better than the sum of its parts.

Pokemon Sw/Sh doesn't do any blending, the trainer animations are the same canned animations from 3DS, which means they are using 3DS templates and reskinning the models with new clothes.

pokemon used to have dungeon crawling and places that wear your team down but gamefreak tried their hardest to undermine those aspects starting with gen5.
now every cave has a healer NPC, poisons dont tick anymore while walking and actual caves got pretty damn rare.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd bet that Gamefreak couldn't figure out how to properly automate the conversion process from 3DS assets to Switch, so someone is having to do the porting all by hand, and it's rather tedious, so it was decided just to cull the roster to make it easier for the porting team.

Masters Red is actually just HGSS Red in-universe but with a proper redesign instead of reusing his FRLG clothes. Blue's also his HGSS self, and uses the redesign that already existed then.
All of the other protags in Masters seem to come from their proper home games, but Brendan's the player since Norman's his dad, Rosa is somewhat ambiguous but has done Pokestars-related things that the player does via tutorial, Lyra's the childhood friend since she brings up her NPC-self's Marill pretty frequently, and Kris is the protagonist of an alt universe Johto. Who knows at this point.

That's normally when people decide which starter will be the one they go through with because their overall theme is more established. This game releases in just under 2 months, people are getting restless.

The issue I have with Yamper, and quite a few Pokemon designs this gen, are the weird colors they've been sticking on them. They seem to clash, at least in my non-artist opinion. The yellow and especially green bits on Yamper, for example, just make it look unappealing and more unnatural than it needs to be. I think it'd be a decent enough newer Pokemon design, had it had a better color palette.

Instead we get Amie, but it is camping and they pretend it is new cause you can collect curry jpgs. God, that was one of my main gripes with Sun and Moon.
A lot of Pokemon were just so damn slow, including the Starters.
Incineroar actually LOSES speed in its final form.
And Vikavolt, a big electric beetle you'd expect to soar through the air at high speeds, is one of the slowest pokemon out there at a base of 43.
That's just so disappointing.

I consider myself to be a pokemon fanatic and I do not plan on buying this game. I've bought ever main game and 3rd version from Red through Ultra Sun. Sword and Shield will sell well because of children and normies, but they won't hit the 16M XY and SM hit. In fact, given that children and normies don't always buy the yearly releases, and LGPE just came out, it's entirely possible SS will sell less than LGPE's 11M.
