My PSP died about a year ago and now I miss emulation. I couldn't find any second-hand PSPs in good condition. Is the GPD XD a good option?

>buying an emulation machine
You can buy a fucking 2DS XL for way less money and it can play all the games that chink shit can and more.
But can it really? I'm not opposed to any ideas, it's just that the chink android machine seems good enough to replace the good old PSP.
How much does it cost?
According to the official page, 170 to 240 USD depending on the year model.
Damn man, that is way too expensive.
For my money, I would get a nice tablet and a bluetooth controller to play emulators.
Or even consider getting a nintendo switch desu
I feel like a GPD XD isn't worth it. It's just an Android machine with the form factor of a 3DS. If you're going to use android for emulation, might as well just use your smartphone with a telescopic controller like pic related.
A hacked Switch is also becoming a really nice option for emulation. Keeps getting better every day.
Why not just get a vita? Seeing them cheap as hell lately.
>You can buy a fucking 2DS XL for way less money and it can play all the games that chink shit can and more
*and less
XD can emulate PlayStation, N64, Dreamcast, and PSP. It's also better at SNES and GBA than 2DS is.
These are certainly cheaper options and most people probably have more powerful phones than the XD Plus. Just note than some emulators get absolutely crippled by input lag with BT controllers, where the XD's built-in one works great.
The shitty telescopic bluetooth controllers are all garbage, I actually have the exact same one you posted and it barely functions, inputs are dropped constantly and the buttons all feel like shit
I wish there was at least ONE good telescopic controller for phones, I have a graveyard of about 10-15 that I've tried only to find they're all shit
Sucks at GBA emulation
All android is shit for emulation outside RPGs, theres lag input for any type you can get.
You have to had gotten a faulty unit then because mine is great. It has no input lag or dropped inputs and connects perfectly. Plus there are threads on the forbidden site that test a lot of different bluetooth controllers and the Flydigi Wee 2 has by far the best results. No problems with deadzones on the analog sticks, no latency issues, no lag.
Then what is the best option? So far it looks like it's the Vita.
3DS emulation is fucking shit and has always been shit. You'd be better with a Vita/PSP desu.
At that price you would have better luck with a Vita. Full PS1/PSP emulation with good support for SNES/Genesis/NES/GB and okay support for GBA. Storage issues completely resolved nowadays, plus you get the entire Vita library as well. D-Pad is fucking dog shit though. Luckily there is DS3/DS4 support if you prefer that.
N64/DC support is mixed on Android. Some games work well and others are shit. A phone/controller combo with on of those clips would be completely fine for the vast majority of people.
Have you tried the 8bitdo series? they have controllers with clip support built in.
GBA emulation is barely functioning on 3DS from what I remember. I mean you'd better off with a $40 flash cart and a cheap system if you want it 100%.
Frankly the best handheld for emulation depends on what you want to use it for. Android has a good amount of support and just about zero issues with SNES games. Vita has good support but issues with stuff like the notorious opening title screen in Yoshi's Island. Solid for PSP/PS1 all the way through. GPD for that price is murder, however. Wouldn't even bother. You could get a used shield for cheaper that can run HL2
I've owned some of the older GPD game phones and always enjoyed them. I bet it's a fine product that probably handles emulation a bit better than a Vita would. Vita build quality is top notch though so I always hold out hope more advancements are made on that front and getting any vita game you want is easy if you're interested in that.
The only reason the GDP XD is any better at emualtion than the vita is because the emulation on Vita is very under-developed and unable to take advantage of the console properly. They're making advances, like any other platform, and look to get N64 support sometime soon, but it'll be a while before then. less of an issue with the console, more with the software.
This seems like a good idea. Getting a good tablet and a controller.
>GBA emulation is barely functioning on 3DS from what I remember.
The 3DS can run GBA games perfectly.
Yeah and I made mention of that user, I'm totally with you but if user wants something that can do a lot of that stuff better than Vita right now the GPD is probably a fine product. I see people bash them a lot but having owned GPD products in the past they've always been solid and I just want to put a good word in for them. I'm a huge Vita nerd but the scene moves slow and I wouldn't want OP buying it with the hope it will get there anytime soon
>and look to get N64 support sometime soon
N64 support is not a milestone for anything at all, even PC has been stuck at the same spot for years on N64 emulation.
Dude just buy a raspberry and do this hundred steps tutorial
making fun of the RPI is based but implying that setting it up is complicated is cringe
Slapping it in a monitor and installing emulators isn't hard. But the "make it mobile" tutorials are always ridiculously complicated and you end up with some fat looking piece of shit.
