Because its fun collecting coins and treasure for the sake of getting rich.

Have there even been bad Wario games? The Gameboy ones are pretty excellent, Wario Land 4 is certified gold, hell even the Virtual boy game is good. How does he keep doing it?

The real question is why is Wario Land 2 so criminally unrecognized as the greatest in the series and the peak of all videogames?

One thing I like is how despite being sequels of each other, each game has its own individual identity and they each feel like different games from each other.

All his stories are him adventuring for money, which we can relate to.

There were a few kinda bleh Ware games (snapped and I think one or two others).

Shake It is a step down but still pretty damn good.
Master of Disguise is shit and Wario World is mostly mediocre but with some really shining moments, if those count.

Which shining moments do you have in mind? Personally I thought it was overall solid and the only real negative was the lack of content.

Master of Disguise. Fuck you if you try to defend it.

Snapped is shit just because the DSi Camera is soooo bad. If they made a game like it phones nowadays, it could be a really fun concept.
Game and Wario has some really good parts, namely Gamer and all the Multiplayer games, but it really should've been a Launch game or else a part of Nintendo Land.
All the other -ware games are classics.

It's an offshoot of an era where the Mario games were really weird and experimental.

Yeah I agree it's pretty terrible

Do Wario World and Master of Disguise count as Land titles? I know they don't have Land in the name but I've seen people consider them close enough to include them in the same general series.

The Mirror Mansion was really the big one for me, some of the latter puzzle rooms got pretty creative too. A couple bosses in the second half were surprisingly not shit, like the creepy clown guy, the jester, and the cow.
I finished it for the first time two days ago, VB is the only Wario game I have left except for most of the Ware games.

What was terrible about it? I only have vague memories of renting it over a decade ago so I don't remember much other than the transforming being kind of awkward.

>A couple bosses in the second half were surprisingly not shit
Boss Battles seems to be Treasure's specialty. Most of their games tend to have more bosses than they do levels. I don't really recall any of the bosses in the game being shit, except maybe the first two due to how easy they were.

I don't remember a jester boss, though.

Shit level design.
Movement feels terrible, especially compared to other wario games.
Have to solve the same shitty minigames over and over.
Music wasn't that good either.

I kind of wish they'd stuck with the Mario Land series a bit longer, just because I liked all the odd and unusual settings and environments.

Speaking of, it's a bit odd looking back how quickly Wario got his own spinoff game. Bowser's still waiting on a game where he's the main character while Wario gets a starring role barely a year after he's introduced.

Master of Disguise came out in an era where every new entry in a Nintendo series needed to have one gimmick that used a feature of their console, such as the DS's touch screen. You move AND jump with the d-pad, and basically have to use the touchscreen for basically everything else is done with the touch screen. Because of this, Master of Disguise is really slow really slow and frustrating compared to the fairly snappy pace of the other Wario games.

I guess he wasn't really a jester with the hat and everything, more of a trickster of some sort. Might have been a circus ringleader?

Attached: theycallmecubanpete.jpg (640x480, 57K)

We have Bowser's Inside Story though.

>AND jump with the d-pad
That always feels kind of awkward. The only time it sort of works is when the directional buttons are all separate buttons, like on a keyboard.

Wario was a fairly popular villian back in the day, and R&D1 wanted to work on a game that starred their own characters.

The first SML is still one of my favorite games. I'd kill for its environments or its absolutely godly OST to come back in modern Mario games or Smash.

He's an MC. A mean MC. It's in a mansion so I think he's just supposed to be some sort of vague owner of the mansion.

>Wario Land 4
Based, the peak of the series.

How was Shake it a step down?

the narrator in that last ad sounds dead tired

It's a less good 4. It's visually fantastic but the level design and the extra goals leave a lot to be desired, and Wario's moveset is toned down due to the game only using two buttons and the wiimote movement.

>music wasn’t that good
Some of it was aggressively forgettable, but then you have Cannoli and Carpaccio’s themes, the volcano, and the lab. Problem is it takes a long time for the game to go from shit to decent and then you still have to solve treasure minigames

Excellent artstyle, good music, decent bosses, and okay level design that either doesn’t try to do anything too creative or forces you to retry the stage to get everything because of mutually exclusive objectives/treasures. It’s worth playing if you like the games, since there’s still some really standout levels, but don’t expect it to be the quality over quantity everyone loves 4 for.

Was created by Yokoi. Team was so based that Miyamoto dissolved them out of spite

Difference between WL1, 2, 3, and 4? I don't understand what kind of platformer it is. Is there a best or are they all different?

1/VB play like 2d Mario but with a couple more moves, the latter being an improvement over the first. 2/3 are more exploration-focused, and 4 is the best of both worlds, one of the best games in the GBA library and one of the best platformers, full stop.

The one thing they all have in common is they’re puzzle platformers, but how much they lean towards puzzle or platformer varies game to game, unless it’s 4, where every level plays uniquely.

I despise Warioware. I just want to shoulder check pirates and steal their treasure.

Wouldn't fucking surprise me. RIP Yokoi.

The short story is he was working on VB, got forced to release it despite it being in a piece of shit state, and then left to work on the wonderswan. He rear ended somebody and then got hit by two other cars while assessing the damage. The circumstances imply Yakuza, but who knows

1 is much slower and more closely resembles the Mario games than the rest of the series
2 and 3 emphasize exploration more than anything. Wario is also "invincible" in that he can't actually die, though taking damage causes him to lose coins, and potentially have to start a long segment over again, so avoiding damage is necessary. It also introduces the "transform" mechanic, in that Wario gets hit by certain enemies, he changes form to complete various puzzles. 2 has multiple endings, 3 is closer to a Metroidvania with a world map and a day/night mechanic, if that makes sense.
4 is a return to a more traditional platformer, but Wario has a health bar this time, and is overall quite a bit faster paced than the rest of the series. Many people consider this to be the peak of the series.

They're all great games, and there's no actual cohesive story between them, so you can jump in anywhere. I personally recommend 2 as a good starting point, but that's my own opinion.

Best music in any wario game

I'm also familiar with that rumor, and even if the sources do say "Oh, the driver of the vehicle that hit him was Yakuza", it doesn't mean that it was an assassination by the Yakuza.

That's how it worked if you're left-handed
The ABYX buttons are also for movement so you can hold the stylus in your left hand

Like another user said before: completely forgettable for the most part.
Every other game has a memorable soundtrack, even if it consists of only five tracks.
Warioland 4's music is great btw, even with shitty gba chip.

Probably the way they’d want it to be if it did go down that way, which is the frustrating thing about conspiracy theories like this

So would you say 2 & 3 are more adventure platformers with puzzle elements or just straight up puzzle platformers? Like is the emphasis on exploration or puzzles?

2 is adventure with puzzle, 3 is puzzle with adventure.

2 is more adventure platformer with puzzle elements, 3 is more of a straight-up puzzle platformer.
In 2, the goal is to get to the end of the level (or find a hidden exit somewhere in the level), and finding a treasure is a bonus goodie for completion.
In 3, the goal is to find keys and chests with various treasures in them to unlock more levels and abilities. You start off gimped compared to 2, but you get better as the game goes on.
In short, 2 is more adventure with puzzle elements, 3 is more puzzle with adventure elements.

The visuals and animation are excellent, but it's almost too "normal" looking. I like Wario Land when it goes full bizarro.

GO

People say it's aged worse than SML2, but honestly I enjoy it more as a quick little game to playthrough.

Music is definitely my favorite part of the game though. I burned that big band CD of it and play it in my car all the time.

I would live in a place like that.

>thank your local vampire bat for helping with pests
>get your car keys stolen by the ghost pirate for the third time this week

I liked the OST
