Is the 'indie games are all shit' sentiment actually real, or is it just people pretending to be retarded for (you)s? (or extrapolate that because some people who make indie games are really annoying on Twitter all indie games must be shit)

i was browsing steam and came across an early access indie game
it was open world, with crafting and zombies and looked ugly
therefore, all indies are bad!!!!!

Any sentiment that starts with "All (x) are.." isn't real. Except for this one, because it's a paradox.

99% of them are objective shit, 1% remaining is subjective to taste, like of your list i see nothing that i like.

the industry would be stale af without indies

None of them are hyper realistic FPS COD clones, therefore, 90% of the Americans on here won't play them, but still claim they are shit.

People shitting on indie games are victims of the sunk cost fallacy. They've been paying $70+ plus tip for years for AAA console dogshit that if they see someone having fun with a $20 indie they think "There's no way that guy is having that much fun, he barely paid at all! He's clearly a shill, so I must shitpost." It's really quite sad.

>i see nothing that i like.

I really doubt that given the large swathe of genres this list covers

no, it's not real, it's a retarded strawman

think about the level of mouthbreathing retard who goes 'indie bad AAA good oh god yes i love you EA and activision and ubisoft uhhhh more AAA for me only AAA'

I hate indie games, they pretend to be some innovative solution to AAA games but they just chase different trends

Half of them are spiritual sequels where the Dev stolen a popular game font and is pretending that's enough to be like that game, most of the time it's enough to trick idiot into donating at least 500k$ to a Kickstarter that doesn't deliver

Then there's the roguelike game, why bother with actual game design when you can just throw some bullshit about how your game is impossible to beat?

Luckily we have been spared all the walking Sims as the genre has lost its gimmick appeal to normies

Minecraft clone are a-plenty, I don't fucking want a game that has no objective, "make your own fun" tells me you have no fucking idea what makes a game good

And then of course there's like a billion of 2D sidescroller, all of them looks like ass because good pixel artist have been fucilated

Then when you get past all of this you have to deal with all the wokeness and asshole and some of the worst PR that would sink any other business that doesn't have client as retarded as ones that buy a product that doesn't even exist

oh lawl

>you have to deal with all the wokeness and asshole and some of the worst PR that would sink any other business

What exactly does this have to do with games themselves? Do you play their Twitter feed?

Here this is a perfect example of what the average indie game is like

Someone pretended to be castlevania
Got 150k out if thin air
Missed the promised released date by 3 years
Replaced all the character with nigress because "muh reparations"

...

Not really real. The indies may make some solid games, but they also have a habit of being garbage human beings. Guess nature has to balance itself somewhere.

>which were all excellent games
here's the thing user, you might not get this but just give it a second to sink in: people have different fucking tastes.
half that shit you mentioned has zero appeal to me, could not give two fucks

Reminder that indie > AAA

indie games are better than AAA games nowadays. both have absolute obscene amounts of shovelware but for every AAA title worth buying that came out this decade, 3 or more good indie games matched it.

Indie games are to the industry what MCDonalds is to food, cheap comfort food and fulfill the need of people who don't know any better.

>Indie games are the mass market slop that everyone eats
>Not AAA games
You 'avin a giggle m8?

still better than AAA. Dog food in diamond cans

this is 2019, if you aren't a caricature of someone who hates absolutely everything and exists only as a mouthpiece for political views, you aren't allowed on Yea Forums

user, why did Frozen Synapse 2 have to die? It was so fucking fun to play multiplayer

I certainly find more consistent enjoyment playing indies than I do playing AAA games these days. Not trying to sell me fucking microtransactions or loot boxes at every turn helps too.

Please remove that game in the middle. It was a horrible playthrough.

every time

user I didn't make the picture

I mean Yea Forums also seems to define "indie" as "low budget and made by 1-2 people".

Hitman 2 is an "indie game" too.

>Hitman 2
>Published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

You so smart user

just add some censor bars user

95% of indie games are shit just like AAA games.

So the game's bad because the characters aren't white?

Some people are so stupid they need a million dollar advertising campaign to tell them what's good.

>they need a million dollar advertising campaign to tell them what's good.
This is probably also why they complain about Steam having no curation.

No, it's been fake for a while
The issue is primarily that indie games have their own fads and trends (particularly pixelshit)
The other issue is indie games being overpriced but that's present in AAA games as well
I've had tons of fun with different indie games
