no

Just play good indie games or older titles on a normal laptop.

Depends.
Do you absolutely NEED portability, yet have access to most of the good stuff a PC brings you? Then absolutely, go right ahead.
Nowadays, you can get a very reasonable laptop for less than 700 bucks. A system capable of that magical 1080p/60fps in most games, albeit with a bit lowered settings in some recent titles.

The weight and heat issues have been mostly fixed during this decade.

This. They’re no longer completely unsalvageable, but you still really shouldn’t buy them unless you really, really need the portability. For most cases, separate gaming desktop and small cheap laptop combo is preferable.

Depends on your needs. They're more expensive than building a PC, however, they are also more convenient and come with a screen, mouse, and keyboard already attached. The biggest drawbacks are you can't upgrade the individual components

fuck laptop keyboards

mechanical>all

pc is always going to be better but they are still worth looking into, i am waiting for the 7nm GPUs and CPUs to get one

>mechanical keyboards
Those of us who won't be dying alone can't always get away with using these. Shit can be heard from the other side of the house.

If you commute on comfy trains,
go to school or uni
work security jobs with nothing to do,
travel for work,
do nothing on an army base,
then sure yeah, they’re a convenient tool to have if you don’t have a desktop PC. But if you have a desktop PC and don’t really do much of the listed stuff then there’s not really any reason to get one when a cheap laptop will suffice.

think, paying at least 2x for 1/2 of PC performance with the same specs, on top of small screen and overheating shitty keyboard

If hearing the other person in your life is an issue then you will never last together

Best way to fuck up company laptop?

are you fucking dumb or do you just not realize you can plug an MK into a laptop?

Are you retarded?

>i am waiting for the 7nm GPUs and CPUs to get one

what are the benefits of 7nm?

People aren't keyboards so they need to sleep

software: install worm on network
hardware: insert a usb killer

That boomer humor

Not high end ones.
I got a $700 “gaming” laptop thats serviceable for slightly older games (Nu-xcom 1, zoo tycoon 2, world in conflict is what I got on there now).
If you’re serious about playing the newest vidya looking great, just go desktop.

It depends on what you're doing with it. If its going to sit on your desk at home, then no. If you travel alot then sure. However, the hardware doesn't stack up to desktops and they arent future proof at all (See: Lack of removable parts, battery life)

t. Someone who bought an Alienware meme machine and was quickly dissatisfied.

more power efficient>less heat>less WHIRLRHIHRIWHRIWHIWL when gaming
also if 7nm mobile ryzen cpus jump in performance like desktop cpus did prices should be lower, there are still a lot of dump laptops with 1050 ti or 1650 with the i7 tax

No. Gaming laptops suffer from two big problems and a smattering of small problems that add up to become really annoying.
The first big problem is Nvidia Optimus. It's a software solution to problem that we used to fix correctly with MUX switches. It doesn't do anything it's advertised to do and only creates more problems. New drivers either don't work at all or constantly break compatibility with older games. It's just a clusterfuck and there's always something wrong with it.
Second big problem is fucked voltage profiles across the board and almost no ability to manage them since the manufacturers now lock every part of the machine down. 99% of heat problems and stuttering in laptops are because of this, and nobody fucking talks about it. Intel Turbo Boost is cancer. Nvidia "automatic" overclock is cancer. Disable Turbo Boost and set a non-scaling profile on your Nvidia clock and your laptop will run better in games and probably about 20 degrees cooler.

No, and they will NEVER be "worth it" unless you are completely unable to use a desktop.
You will always be able to play the same games on hardware half the price.

You don't get gaming laptops for them to be "worth it", you get them for the convenience.
You can get gaming laptops better than most desktops, but you pay twice the amount.

>The biggest drawbacks are you can't upgrade the individual components
There are a scant few manufacturers that actually let you do this. Namely, the big fat Asus G-series laptops are all built a lot like a compact desktop, you can replace pretty much everything you would on a desktop.
Can't recommend them enough if you're looking to get a gaming laptops. They service and upgrade really easily for the most part, and Asus are great at supplying drivers for each and every obscure component hardwired to the board (which is a huge problem with laptops as a whole)

yes, as long as you buy alienware :)

My SIL has a gaming laptop and doesn't give that thing the proper airflow, always sounds like the fucker is about to take off no matter what game she plays, damn annoying.

I will never understand you fucking idiots who need to make "sacrifices" for whoever the fuck you are dating, you are obviously not meant for each other

Just bought a laptop. I'm going to use it to play older SNK games and porn games.

>The weight and heat issues have been mostly fixed during this decade.

Is this really true? I bought a "gaming" laptop back in 2009 for college, and it definitely got the job done but the motherfucker crapped out on me a few years ago. It literally won't turn on anymore.

My laptop has a mechanical keyboard

Usually not.
Of course I'm a little salty and bought an acer laptop and their power connector is goddamn shit and broke and I can't use my lappy anymore

>gaming
>laptop

Attached: 1550733783789.jpg (1000x694, 59K)

No, when someone says "mostly fixed", that is code for "I spent a lot of money on this shit so I am very optimistic"

There’s a server room right next to me. What is the best way to fuck the corporation?

>implying

Success in life demands sacrifice. You always have to give something to get something else in return. The idea that a functional relationship is some magical experience where no sacrifice is involved is utter foolishness.

The idea is that they have to be sacrifices that YOU ARE WILLING TO MAKE, but sacrifices nonetheless. I'm fairly certain it's this immature attitude of not willing to make perfectly reasonable compromises for the sustainability of the household that is responsible for so many irritated men living in a state of arrested development.

Depends. Generaly the best parts are only avaiblable through gaming branded Laptops, not speaking about prices.

If by gaming laptop mean mid tier laptop for uni or work that is also able to play older and indie games, then yes. Otherwise, no.

Gaming laptop LOL
Just finish college and afford an actual computer toaster or workstation.

>Is this really true? I bought a "gaming" laptop back in 2009 for college
Mate, 2009 is literally ancient history by now.
I just got an Acer Nitror w/ i7 CPU, 20gb RAM and GTX 1050ti, and it weights like 2 kilos tops. Battery lasts a good 6h as well.

Thinkpad x200 bros where we at?

Attached: 1557709642675.jpg (999x814, 84K)

False. You fags just dont keep up with times, and parrot some 2006 memes.
I legit bought myself a "gaming laptop" last July for 400€, sharp. Played thru DMC5 with it.

I have a gaming laptop because I dont have room for a desktop.

I have an HP one and it cost me about 900 pounds for a i7-7700hq, gtx 1060 6gb and a 120hz display.

ask me anything

No

If you're not getting a genuine use out of the portability, absolutely not. They're more expensive, you can't upgrade them (except for fringe-cases), much easier to overheat, and laptops generally just don't last as long as a desktop.

Attached: 1491631475485.gif (179x290, 1.03M)

no, never.

Why did you went for the worst company possible(leaving apple aside) for laptops when you can get something better for the same price?

>laptops in 2019
>gay man laptops in 2019
OHNONONONONO

1060m*

How does it feel to be stuck with hardware?

This is the most middle aged cuck shit I have ever read in my life, I bet you're not even the one that fucks your wife

youtube.com/watch?v=G62LbZHcO6o
i would just use this mini pc

Laptops with GPUs is expensive for no reason so instead buy a laptop with no GPUs then buy an external GPU adapter and your own video card.

Because I couldn't get the same thing for the same price. Only Acer who are equally shit would sell the same parts for the same price, but only in America. The same laptop from any other company would be at least £300 more expensive.

They don't put the M on them anymore because they are 99% identical to the desktop variants.

Just get silent switches and lube them you cuck

Only reason I see behind getting a 'gaming' laptop is if you go to Uni or someplace else for a while where you can't settle in with a desktop.

Other than that, I'd say just stick with a PC. No overheating, no battery trouble, etc.

>buy crappy gayming laptop for 1K to play vidya
>spend 2K on loot boxes
I seriously hope you guys aren't doing this

Attached: 1563956095748.jpg (332x447, 89K)

lul, falling for this stupid shit. Do you buy gaming headsets and mice too? Fucking faggot

Only if you ABSOLUTELY need portability.
Other you can get a much better rig for the same price on PC. Even more so if you build it yourself.

Talk to/gl or better yet, go on their /g/entoo wiki, they have very comprehensive guides and FAQs

>They don't put the M on them anymore because they are 99% identical to the desktop variants.
Not really, not even close.
And less if you take in consideration thermal throttiling from shitty brands like HP, Lenovo low end and Dell laptops.

Give it a few yeard or a decade until AMD laptops are more mainstream

>oh no im getting 140fps instead of 150fps in some shitty zoomer game
how will i cope

That wont happen till 2020 when AMD gets ready their cheap ULV APUs, for now their ryzen mobile low end is good, but not perfect because nobody is using it.

>complaining about good peripherals
Are you sure you're not the one with a gamer headset?

I've not once spent a thousand dollars on my computers.
Nor do I play jewish shit with loot boxes.

Even if AMD do nothing, intel is at a deadend will be for years so they will gain a lot of share in this department. I am not really that deep into this tech but wtf happened to intel?

Do you have friends or are you a YouTuber who travels often? Maybe
Do you not have friends? No.

When it comes to laptops no because Intel owns the low-mid end since AMD has no CPUs to go against them in those tiers, they have to make something to go against the $17 N3050 for example.

Asus have a line of lower-end gaming laptops with Ryzen 3000 CPUs and nVidia graphics. The one with a 3750H CPU and RTX 2060 looks perrty nice, expecially since it comes with a 512 GB SSD.

If you're a person who travels a absolute fuckton and can't afford the luxury of having a proper desktop and you still want to game, then, yeah, sure.

In any other circumstance, not really.
They're really expensive for what they are, and are prone to overheating and hardware issues. They're really not worth it for the normal person. You're far better off building a desktop.

Logitech's Romer-G switches would like to have a word with you.
>have friend with Cherry blues
>people in our group are always complaining about hearing his keyboard through his mic
>be me
>nobody knew I had a mechanical even though I have a tendency to autism smash the keys while playing

There's nothing wrong with high DPI mice with extra keys to map or surround sound headphones when playing games.

I play with my Acer Nitro 5. It has a GTX 1050ti, and an Intel i5. The cooling system is really underwhelming, but that can be fixed by undervolting your rig (which on this model is quite easy). Now my CPU and GPU run at least 10° cooler and up to 20° cooler.

I have a question, though. I play with the thing plugged in all the time, and though the temperatures for the CPU and GPU are really okay, the battery can get pretty hot, since it's constantly taking in that charging power.

Does anyone know if this fucks up your battery life in the long term? I know it's recommended to just remove the battery and play plugged in, but the battery for the Nitro 5 is built in and can't be removed. I'm worried, bros.

Attached: Wonder_lame.png (445x481, 314K)

No, unless you absolutely need to be portable. Laps are garbage especially the gaming ones.

my old lenovo laptop has a "conservative mode" where the battery stays at around 60% all the time and the laptop basically doesn't just the battery when it's plugged in

>Can't reduce power limit
>Can't limit framerate
Why is Nvidia so stupid? I don't want a million fps. I want a quiet laptop

It shouldn't, modern laptops don't keep overcharging the battery, when it reaches 100% it stops routing power to it.

>Gaming laptops have powerful GPUs
>Powerful GPUs require powerful cooling
>Powerful fans cause a lot of noise and vibration
>Noise and vibration you can hear/feel from right under the gaymer mechanical keyboard
>Mechanical Keyboards that are noisy themselves
>CLICK CLACK CLICK CLACK VROOM VROOM VROOM
it don't make sense mang

surface book 1 has one of the best keyboards, period

mechanical keyboards are for retards

can confirm

>doesn't say anything about the cpu used
lol
