1 and 2 are the only good ones. 3 is just okay

4, had Platinum and HG&SS

5 and 3. If I had to choose then 5.

I really liked gen 3 and 5 when they came out but I find that gen 4 has held up better over time.

Why isn’t ORAS on there? I personally believe cutting sprites was the downfall. They could’ve done an Octopath Traveler-like HD 2D or whatever they call it. That would’ve worked perfectly and allowed them to keep the spirit of the games without being lost in the past.

Used to be 2, maybe the originals hold up more but I have quite a few issues with HG/SS when I replayed it. But when I revisit 5, I always have a blast.

Why do people pretend Pokemon games have varying levels of quality? They're literally the same game over and over but with a slightly different coat of paint sometimes. Seems pretty arbitrary to pick a favorite.

Because Gamefreak keeps dropping good features between games so they can make remakes later.
For example Platinum has the VS Seeker and places to grow berries while B2W2 had neither. B2W2 had difficulty settings and PWT while XY dropped them both.

Plus despite Gen IV bringing in evolutions to many Gen II Pokemon, they make it pretty frustrating to get them in-game due to locking at post E4.

And baby Pokemon filling up 10% of the Pokedex

I really enjoyed them until 3. 4 was when it started to go downhill for me. Nothing beats the experience of playing 1 for the first time.

Really says something about the best pokemon game that even with such a glaring flaw it's still clearly superior to everything that came after it. Better minigames, better systems, better curve of actually getting pokemon, better post-game, better characters, better secrets...

Did they shit the bed with the animation for SM or something? What I saw of XY looked much nicer.

People in their late 20s and early-mid 30s prefer gen 1/2. People in their early-mid 20s prefer gen 3/4. Zoom-zooms and manchildren prefer the rest

You didn't play HG/SS. It had the EXACT same shit distribution until Kanto.

Still love Gen 2, but I like Hoenn as a world to explore, it has a lot of off-the-beaten-path shit.

Gen 4 is the absolute worst. Awful slow engine, horrible sprites, bad new mons, and a region where the main thing is a giant fucking mountain filled with goddamn zubat. Fuck that.

Gen V, specifically Black/White.
