This is generally regarded as the real killer for Frontier, the other being the weird, jarring change to "Spirit Warriors" instead of actual Digimon. Like pretty much all Japanese children shows that aired in the US, its just cheaper to do your own music. I have noticed the children anime Disney has been getting recently is trying to break that tradition by using the original soundtrack and dubbing the OP/ED songs for some of their shows.

Should I check out Digimon World on PS1? I liked Digimon when I was younger but somehow missed out on their games, and do enjoy the Sleuth games but the text at times does get a bit too much.

DMW1 emulates pretty much perfectly
The real problem is the game itself, which is a lot more like a virtual pet than an RPG

It's a little bit janky, a little bit esoteric, and a little bit grindy, so even among Digimon fans it's a bit of a niche.

I don't think I had any problems emulating it. Also DW1 is nothing like Cyber Sleuth, it's a monster raising game so you don't make teams, and it's not turn-based, you give orders and throw items while your mon does its best on its own.
But it is an experience. Weird, cryptic, esoteric. I recommend playing without a guide for best effect.

Still need to get a 5/5 Agumon (Classic) to replace my 4/5 to pair up with my Gabumon. Leveling him all over again is going to suck though.

Loaded it up, runs well so far and makes some sense. I saw a little bit of World Next Order so some of it I can figure from that. Roaming around with Gabumon, it's pretty fun.

A big part of DW1 was the overworld design, art, and exploration. Show me some maps from any of the newer games that can compare.

The ohguino wastelands in Next 0rder apply all the concepts introduced in world 1 and 3/2003, with natural looking areas with technology pieces sprouting from the ground or megastructures being placed throughout the world to create a distinct look for the digital world. The wastelands are divided in two with a crude camp of meat eaters on one side and a massive castle on the other controlled by veggie eaters, with a great bridge connecting both areas. I agree the map geography itself is simplistic as fuck but the game was originally on the vita and had resources put in graphics rather than map size optimization

Look I’m not arguing DmW1-3 aren’t great in their own right, hell I adore 3’s pre rendered areas and character sprites, but dismissing games as soulless because they don’t abide 500% to the nostalgia factor is retarded. There is still plenty to explore, see and speculate about in N0. I just can’t vouch for Re:Digitize since I haven’t played it yet

It was already pretty daunting even before given the game's less restrictive nature of evolutions compared to the anime where everything has a pretty set path for what one mon will evolve into.

cyber sleuth is a SMT game with digimon instead of demons, great if you like SMT, but I wouldn't call a true digimon experience.
DW1 is one of my favorite games from childhood/teen years, so I mean when I say that I really enjoyed Next 0rder, the qol features make it a less obtuse game, with may be something that you may not like, and it's clearly a low budget game. But if you enjoy the monster raising aspect of Digimon, N0 is certainly the way to go
