7 sounds too good to be true. Chapter 1 on it's own is like 2-3 hours long if you take your time, explore and talk to everyone.

Technically, UT is the AU. Deltarune was supposed to be made first, but Toby wanted to start off small and simple.

Just play through the end, when i first played it i basically did two Neutral rounds, the second one was really interesting because some things changed and it allowed me to use a different option for dialogues and the like, made me apprecciate the game better.

you "can", if you do all the requirements you will get the Neutral ending and Flowey will tell you to talk to Alphys, normally the idea would be to restart the game but you can "cheese it" by reloading your last save (outside Asgore's fight) and going back to the first True Pacifist trigger

Don't really, imo doing a second playthrough after a neutral ending is the best thing to do, I remember how much it blew my mind when I met with Sans again and he wondered why I shaked his hand before he told me so.

I like how he made an incentive to do near misses during fights, but the party system makes each fight seem to drag longer than a typical one would in Undertale. I realize it was part of the character development but this was especially bad in that stretch when Susie would do nothing but attack enemies and you had to warn them to dodge. Overall it was pretty good and I'm interested to see where it goes, but I'm worried it'll just end up rehashing shit from Undertale

Reminder that the reason Kris has a sword in the dark world is because he carries a knife around at all times. But the reason that Susie has an axe is ???. You can be depressed without being suicidally/clinically depressed, user. It's a normal emotion. If your life sucks, it's something you might feel more regularly than someone whose life does not; and even if your life is good, if you're unfulfilled, that can also lead to chronic (not clinical) depression.

It's a more nuanced thing than most folks these days would have you believe.

I think that's the most subtle thing people are missing. Deltarune is probably (at least in my opinion) the alternative/actual scenario where the monsters won the human vs. monster war. In undertale, the monsters were sealed underground after losing. In deltarune, the humans are the ones sealed underground since they lost.

Speaking of which, chapter one is really self contained in that odd sort of way. Jevilsknife is basically an ultimate weapon for Susie. It even reduces the cost of her best attack so she can just plain spam it. Which in turn is only really useful for the king fight. If the game really is going to extend from that same continuity, then it's going to be fucking difficult to upgrade Susie any further from there.

I remember somebody claiming you can forcibly level up the characters and they gain new abilities (I primarily remember Ralsei having a Euthanasia one-shot spell and Kris having an ability that draws aggro to himself) but I've never seen anything like it on Cutting Room Floor or anything so he was probably lying.

Oddly enough, that's even a theme in Undertale. Where the journey you go on isn't even your own, apparently. The character's real name being Frisk, the signs that so many others have been there before you, and the fact that nobody actually says your name, besides Flowey, who doesn't actually know who you are. It separates you from the actual medium, because you realize "you" isn't even talking about you, the player. And then there's the fact that all the characters are kind of weird and one-note to round it off, so I can see your friend's point.

Because it legitimately is a different universe, Undertale treats timeline divergences as only occurring from the moment the human hits the Underground, and before that from some vague point of Flowey's life up until he lost control. In Deltarune they've been on the surface all their lives, there aren't any notable tensions between humans and monsters that we know about, everyone has a relatively normal, modern-day life, magic doesn't even come up at all up until Ralsei is shown to be a mage.

That's always stuck out to me, Toriel is totally tone-deaf when it comes to Asgore. My closest guess is she blames him for Asriel and Chara's deaths to some degree, though afterwards she claims to hate him because he didn't have the nuts to intelligently go about the human souls plan, even being well aware that any invasion against the humans would mean monster extinction regardless of having enough souls to shatter the barrier.

With Deltarune it's interesting that she tries to avoid talking about him as much as possible, even though he's still in good standing with the rest of the town, is still best friends with somebody he's known since college, still loves his sons and doesn't seem to hold any ill will against Toriel. In both continuities Toriel seems to be the dividing factor while blaming Asgore.

I dunno. From Toriels rant at the end it sounded more like she was upset with Asgore being too cowardly to kill random human villagers for the remaining 6 souls rather than the fact he killed kids.

Eyes seem to have some kind of thematic significance here. Susie becomes your friend at the end of the demo, and so her bangs are brushed away and you can finally see her eyes proper. She isn't the weird fucking satanic monster bitch from the beginning of the game.
In a similar fashion, you see Kris' eyes as he takes back control. The lighting on the King makes it seem as though it's obscuring his eyes. Jevil's eyes pop out when you hit him. Seam's eyes are a dark black void and a creepy fucking three holed button that rotates.

Anyways in conclusion it just serves to make Susie a little less threatening, though she's cuter with her bangs down.

You're right when you say that the player isn't an actual entity in-universe, but you're thinking about it wrong. In Undertale, the player is undeniably Frisk. Everything you do in-game is what Frisk's actions are. Every time that people refer to "you", they're talking about Frisk, except for Flowey, who is talking to Chara. Trying to say that the player isn't the red soul is even more of a cop-out in my opinion. It muddles things up too much. This is a game tailor made for the illusion of breaking the fourth wall, while the fourth wall is really a two way mirror we're just peering inside. You are the red soul, we just don't know who the fuck that is at this point.

Chara's mission in life was to kill all humans, right? Then, what does the player teach them? That killing monsters makes you more powerful. Chara wasn't a blank slate, but they're just like Flowey. An emotionless husk with a twisted personality. And Chara's personality was a would-be mass murderer in the first place. It could be that they truly loved the Dreemurrs in life, but in death, they can only experience things as you do. And you decide to murder everything you come across.

This is something that needs to be drawn and framed upon completion
