Yea Forums is the only place that gave PMD a chance and rightfully so. Honestly one of the main reasons why I like Yea Forums since it shows people actually played the games instead of being dissuaded by the reviews.

Dungeon crawler for children and idiots. It's not terrible but if you've played similar games you realize how much it's missing and how little there is to do. Okay entry point for the genre for kids and pokemon fans I guess.

Yes, but Explorers of Sky is a far better game, overall. I've never heard anyone say that Sky isn't the best in the series— it's a great improvement over Red/Blue and Time/Darkness, Gates is kind of bad, and Super doesn't quite hit the mark— as far as I know; I've only played the old 2D games.

This series is what got me back into Pokemon so it holds a special place in my heart. I'm not really interested in Sword/Shield after the decisions GameFreak is going with but if there's a Gen 8 Mystery Dungeon that is at least as okay as Super, I would totally buy a Switch just for it.

Super was okay desu, liked explorers and rescue team more. Super felt a bit too story centric, after the main campaign and epilogue was done I didn't feel like doing the optional hard dungeons or collecting the legendaries like in the other two.

A lot of people don't know but the music in Gates can be pretty good

It's a fan comic called PMD: Victory Fire. It had regular updates since it began in 2012 until it went on hiatus at the start of this year.

I think it's okay. I like some of the headcanons the comic makes like what said.

I think its pretty good (for a fan comic) and at least worth a try. The start was a bit slow if I recall though its been years since I read it.

I love Sky to death, but I just can't get into Super. The start is just so damn slow.

The game gets way better after the ~8 hour long school segment, the second part of the story and the postgame are 10/10

Being a pokephile ruined this series for me. I was able to enjoy red rescue team and sky is one of my all time favorite games. But by the time super came out I was too far gone. Now if I can't romance the pokemon it just can't hold my attention long enough. I'd try to recruit my favorite pokemon but there's just no point when all of them act so soulless, sterile, and rated E

Has any mystery dungeon ever gotten a romhack?

There is a anti cheat system that doing it would require more work trying to crack it then most would want to do. I might be wrong about it but pretty sure it's an anti cheat thing

There's at least one hard mode hack for Rescue Team, but the balance is shit.
There's a randomizer for Sky. There's also a patch to speed up the text and skip cutscenes.
You can use custom starters in several games.
