Churches are scams. The bible says anyplace can be your place of worship, as long as you respect that place as a place of worship respect.

Churches are the "geek squad" of religion, where people that aren't REALLY that devout go to do it the "right way". Or for people that fucked up so bad along their lives that they need someone to shame them into being decent people.

Some 'churches' are a scam. The Church is a body, so it doens't matter where you meet, correct. It is great to physically meet together with other believers as a community to build each other up. Just going to it and listening to a sermon is helpful, but its good to use the resources it provides and reach out to others to help each other out. Don't make the mistake I did and hermit myself off from churches due to the stigma of corruption. Call it like it is, but don't let your anger of church corruption spoil the idea of church in your mind.

I understand, but where I live, it always end up being massive circlejerks with minimal community help, mostly centered around christmas gifts and maybe some soup kitchens here and there.

Also, nothing stops people that want to help their communities from just organizing into a NGO and do the same thing without having to rely on "God's power" to gather interest.
