Longsword is unironically the perfect weapon in DS1, DS2, and DS3. It has a flawless moveset both one-handed and two-handed, it has sufficient range to keep yourself in a fight with most other weapons while simultaneously not forcing yourself overwhelmingly close to dangerous opponents, it has excellent speed, the damage output is fantastic no matter what you infuse it with, and what few enemies in these games that are weaker to maces and shit are usually so fat and slow that you'll make up for the "loss" with just regular strikes.

All of the rest of the weapons have their strengths and weaknesses, and depending on your intended build, they will always be higher and lower priority to the longsword, but that fucking weapon can be slotted anywhere and make itself work out.

Best sword in the game, easily

Based.

Not bait in the slightest.
Longsword requires more investment than BSS, has lower reach, worse moveset which is especially painful in PVE, and BSS ain't that great to begin with, unless buffed.

Dark souls meta, spam R2

i meant in this thread, cant believe i was the first person to mention the bss my poor choice of words

fuck off fag ive played souls since 09

The longsword contains an even blend of stabs and swipes that help it deal with crowds as well as narrow hallways and bottlenecks, it also doesn't demand that much stat investment while offering solid damage which can be increased even further due to how busted +15 Standard is.
PvE isn't even that demanding in the first place, anyhow, I beat it with Velka's Rapier and didn't have an issue despite how underwhelming it is for its stat spread, Longsword is very solid.

For me: claymore

And even then you'd be wrong, God forbid we spend one thread without someone mentioning the toothpick.

For me, it's the Golem Axe.

Attached: bvNOusc.jpg (600x800, 169K)

Everything longsword does in terms of moveset claymore does better, with far more range and damage/poise damage. Longsword is a fucking quality weapon which means it requires a huge investment if you want to use it at acceptable level, only the "acceptable level" for longsword is puny 400 AR.

for me its battle axe. I always use heavy weapons. It's quality not quantity

Attached: skull-battle-axe-sw710-kx653-5.jpg (961x655, 200K)

The Claymore has a reputation for being a really strong weapon, but it's still slower than a longsword, which despite translating into lesser damage also makes it a safer choice.

>you can end it by smashing your face into the sudoku blade once you realize how much your weapon sucks

Long stick that deals blunt damage?
Don't mind if I do

Attached: mirdan-hammer-on-hand.jpg (400x352, 25K)

DS1's longswords are insignificantly faster than greatswords despite an enormous gap in range and damage. It's far safer to make a single claymore poke or stunlock enemies to death with 2HR2 than going closer to them and using longsword attacks.

>Lucerne gets added as its heir to DaS1
>It's shit
Why?

DS1 took a bunch of fantastic DeS movesets and made them utterly terrible for no reason.
They only un-fucked them back in DS3, though lucerne is still not mirdan hammer tier.

almost all weapons were shit in DaS1
thankfully it's better again in 2&3

git gud

>longswords are insignificantly faster than greatswords
I'd say that's more due to Claymore being the fastest greatsword in the game than the weapon class in general.

halberds+etc just kinda feel shit in DS1 because of the two gimmicks they have, tiny sweetspot/huge sourspots for damage, as well as stupidly long ending animations if you miss an attack

It's not a matter of git gud
No matter how you look at it, DS1 movesets are clunky and limited as shit compared to DeS where they typically even had fluid r1-r2 transition or unique combos.
Just compare DBS or meat cleaver with any DS1 ultra weapon moveset and you will see.

>thankfully it's better again in 2
>implying

or maybe just three
I don't remember DaS2 that well, but it's certainly better again in 3

>or unique combos.
I don't remember unique combos, which weapons had them?

2's halberds aside from Syan are easily the worst in whole franchise user.

Ol' Reliable

Attached: hand_axe.png (94x138, 5K)

Most satisfying weapon coming through. Drakeblood greatsword is a close second for the godlike moveset and hilariously high AR with split damage.

Attached: executioners_greatsword.png (189x287, 16K)

Why? What did they do to them?

The running halberd attack where you slam the axe head on the ground feels wonderful to sweetspot with, at least.

Ome handed Lothric Knight GS with left hand caestus. Parry when it's obvious, catch roll spammers with a quick punch, punish effectively with a big swing.

UNGA BUNGA ROCK SOULS

You didn't mention the fucking beast looks.

Attached: executioner's greatsword.jpg (1920x1080, 237K)

Very large sword class for example allowed you to make a unique chain of attacks through R1-R2-R1 or R1-R2-R2
A lot of weapon classes had some sort of unique animation for chaining R2 into R1

>DaS3 took out powerstancing to instead give you specific paired weapons
Can't say I'm a fan of this change.

Was hilariously boring to use in 1 but in 2/3 they actually made it fun
Especially in 3 thanks to the charged attack sending entire packs of enemies flying away from you

I admit that's pretty cool looking. I really felt the omission of scabbards in 2.

Me?

I'm a Falchion man, if you're going to use a fast sword that deals a lot of damage you'd better be right up in the boss' face like a man

Attached: Falchion.png (512x512, 44K)

Powerstanced movesets beyond the fists were shit, user. Paired weapon movesets are vastly superior and actually feel unique.
The only thing of value that was lost between 2 and 3 is the ability to use full moveset in off hand, though some weapon classes are still fantastic in off hands like greataxes.
youtube.com/watch?v=vhqb5DeC9KY

Too bad curved swords suck.

I never could like 1H curved swords. Small range with basically only 1 usable move, slash damage doesn't do well on anything past the early game unarmored hollows.

That's sweet. I should boot up the game again one of these days and give it another go. Servers are down by now, aren't they?

The simplicity and versatility of this weapon is something that I absolutely love. I used this in my first playthrough of DS1 and tried to find it as soon as possible in the sequels, though they made it seriously hard to find in 3.

A true connoisseur

The Claymore is the best weapon in every Souls game. I've done longsword runs in all of them too and it's so much harder due to lack of range, poise damage and cleaving potential. Ultras are just too slow for the more aggressive bosses/enemies. Claymore is the perfect sweet spot.

a man of refined taste

In Souls games, I always went Dex build at the start and then find the biggest, heaviest sword I could get my hands on and then dump all my points into Strength to use it. Sort of a sword-seeking wanderer. Falchion to Dragon Bone Smasher. Falchion to Black Knight Greatsword. Dagger to Greatsword. DaS3 didn't have a good giant sword for me to find, only that wimpy fucking Exile GS. I unironically beat the game with that dumpy Longsword.

DS1 longsword is good enough to easily solo the entire game with but you may need a couple of them in different elements to do the best amount of damage

No cause I'm not a pussy

Hello Woolie

Yeah but the attack rating is fucking garbage so I only used it for maybe an hour after I first got it.

It's crazy in DS3. Just Hidden Body and Pestilent Mercury literally everything.

But if you kill your enemies, they win

Only weapon you'll ever need.

It rarely works and even if you connect it rarely kills your opponent, but it's satisfyingly hilarious when it does.

>tfw shit at parrying

Attached: 1568443244552.jpg (878x583, 36K)

Is punching really hard ever viable in soulsborne?

Viable depends on your view of it, after my collective thousands of hours in the franchise I could probably beat the game with a toothpick, but it's not the most enjoyable experience. Fist weapons are surprisingly decent and make for fun runs, especially in DaS2.

DS3 mostly. In 2 the blunt damage is good too but movesets are ass.

that makes me nostalgic for my old pistol shrimp axeman build in DS3 where i dual-wielded the greataxe and the battle axe (alternated with millwood axe)

was great for baiting attacks, i should run that setup again

Dark souls 2 is the only game where straight swords have decent two-handed movesets because they're actually faster.

2H straight swords in 1 and 3 are slow as fuck and completely worthless, you're better off using a shield, crossbow, or catalyst in your off-hand.

2H moveset in 1 and 3 is useful in narrow passages since the attacks are vertical.
As for DS2, the longsword moveset there was a complete overpowered bullshit ready for any situation, i'm glad they are nowhere nearly as obnoxious to fight against anymore.

I like the "cool guys look away from explosions" touch.

Shitposting aside I wish we had a dark souls sequel with a bid more focus on combos and parrying. Something kinda like sekiro but with armor dudes with big boy swords instead of sneaky ninja crap.

>>claymore
>>its actually a zweihander in terms of size
>>zweihander
>>its actually anime
You have no idea what you're talking about

In terms of size and design the Dark Souls zweihander is pretty accurate, the inaccuracy is in the sense of massive weight in the animations. In reality the sword would be very easy to swing around two handed. Same goes for the claymore to a lesser extent.
