Needs to have online trading and stuff.
Chao take too much time to develop (like leaving the gamecube on at night to wait for reincarnation)
Also, the chao races should be controlled by the player and not the chao.
Overrated, but there's little excuse as to why SEGA haven't even attempted to shove one into a game in the last 10 years.
I never cared for it and I fucking hate how emblems are tied to it.
Incredible with lots of areas for growth and improvement to make it even more addicting. It is actually a crime we haven’t gotten another installment of Chao yet.
it's surprisingly complex for a random minigame thing that they added. i guess it adds to the replay value if you like collecting animals and giving them to chao.
weird that sega hasn't done anything with it. could probably work as a budget spin off title
Same. It would be fine if it wasn't required for Metal Sonic and Green Hill.
Okay, so here's the deal. I was playing Sonic Adventure 2 and I went to Chao Garden to raise a chao for some forgotten reason. Long story short, I accidently kicked the thing. It was so much fun that I kicked it again. And again and again and threw it into the wall. Then I decided to buy a chao specifically for the purpose of abusing. I got a purple chao egg and tossed it into the wall. When the little purple bastard came into the world I was waiting to kick him. I did that for a long time, just kicking the chao around and throwing him against the wall and into the water to watch him flail around and hoping he'd drown. I never gave him a name or any small animals to play with or those crystal things to make him stronger. I didn't even bother to feed the damn thing and wouldn't let him sleep. I just kept kicking him and throwing him like a football. When I got bored with the physical abuse I started looking into the psychological torment.
First I waited until he was starving then I gave him food only to snatch it away before he could take a bite. Then I'd give the food to another chao to eat while he sat there watching and crying. Then I'd kick him. I'd also pet the other chao or hold it and rock it like a baby while he'd watch. Then I'd kick him. Sometimes he'd scream and run away and I'd chase him and kick him into the water and watch him drown. This continued on until the chao turned 2 (garden time) and went into his egg for the 2nd transformation. I was waiting there to kick him when he emerged but to my surprise the egg was empty.
Now what I want to know is this: Did the chao finally die or did it escape somehow? I can't bear the thought of either really but I have to know.
DONT WORRYBUDDONT WORRYBUDDONT WORRYBUDDONT WORRY BUDDY
That’s just what happens when a chao is abused really bad but they don’t even have enough stats to transform. It literally just goes away instead of transforming. Usually when you abuse a chao it turns into the side of character you aren’t. Ex. If sonic abuses chao they become dark chao.
Chaos wants to know your location.
>If your Chao had a high enough happiness stat (this is a hidden stat– greater than 30 for SADX and greater than 50 for SA2), it will reincarnate and leave an egg. If it didn’t, then sadly your Chao will not reincarnate and will be gone forever.
How long do you guys reckon it'll take to breed a Chaos Chao with all S-rank stats?
I did this exact same thing and I erupted into the biggest bitch tears when it actually died.
Surprise - a game with colorful animal characters allows you to murder babies.
YOOSHYOOSHYOOSHYOOSHYOOSH
Very overrated feature for how superficial it is, I mean there are people who act like this was better than the actual main game or that the Chao Garden alone makes Adventure better than Heroes despite the latter being a uniformly better gameplay experience.
but it IS better than the main game
it is the only reason to play Sonic Adventure 2
Adventure 2 must be an unfathomably shitty game then.
why doesnt sega just make a chao garden game?
They hate money?
The most overrated thing in a Sonic game. It's pretty impressive for the time but it's pretty boring
Speed>Mech>Hunting>power gap>chao karate>chao race
>despite the latter being a uniformly better gameplay experience
Why do retards keep saying this? Heroes is more broken than then every SA and SA2 port combined. You have to actively fight the game to get the physics working properly. At least the adventure games had a solid physics base that you could exploit to pull off some crazy shit. In Heroes the crazy shit you pull off is creating a solid physics base.
I keep 7 Chao that I like but keep one as a punching bag
heroes is not good at all. adventure games have better gameplay.
have only dreamcast versions of sa1 and 2 though. i've heard that the ports are worse. and played heroes on ps2. no idea how it compares to gc and xbox version.
I played the GC version it was also a buggy mess. Especially when it came to scripted sections like rails and cannons, half the time they wouldn't work properly
The GC version of Heroes is supposed to be the least buggy, IIRC, but the physics are so awful that you'll just slip around like everything is made of butter half the time
The main game is playable to a degree, you can get by without many problems by finessing things a bit. The worst part is definitely the special stages. If you touch the upper third portion of the pipe you get sucked into the ceiling and have to jump out of it to get yourself unstuck, losing all of your momentum. You either catch the emerald within the first 20 seconds or you spend the entire thing wrestling with the physics.
I can only conceive it as the bad excuse people use to call the Adventure series good
Sonic was never good
I love it.
I'm surprised they haven't made a phone app yet.
Stop playing the ps2 version.
I liked it, and I'm sad they never did anything else with it. Now I'm just waiting on Kobold Garden.
I played the Gamecube version.

i like it enough that im gonna go play SA2 because of this thread. which unfortunately is the way i end up playing most games nowadays
it's playable, you can make it work, but i just don't like it to be honest. it's mostly ass. it's been forever since i played it so i don't remember the specifics.
Supposedly they don't do Chao any more because the guy that made the code left the company, and took it with him I guess to do jack shit with it?? You might be wondering why Sega or whoever doesn't just make up some shit to ape it, or take Chao raising in another direction or something, but then you remember that Sega hates pleasing fans and making money in the west. I'm half convinced that the degradation of Sonic over the past decade and a half is a deliberate effort by the racist Sega of Japan to destroy this mascot that they hate precisely because it was once super popular in the west.
How is the pc port of SA2? This thread is making me want to revisit this mess. I have a GameCube but don't have the av cables or the game. Am I better off just buying the cables and game?
Good luck getting it to run on PC.
I have to run it in fullscreen windowed mode or else it crashes, but it's a fun game
Thanks for the input time to see if the old shittop can chug through it.
read it with Handsome Jack's voice while eating pretzels
loved it as a kid and always wished they would bring it back and improve upon the a-life system. now im glad chao are dead because sega would just turn them into a microtransaction simulator.
