Crests being the end-all of every aspect of civilization and the status quo created by that system being responsible for her and others' trauma and seeking to upend that is a pretty good reason.
If her understanding of the history is false, it doesn't make the actual contemporary system or her suffering fake. As the future leader of the largest and strongest military power that isn't the church that's passively allowing the system to exist, she's in the best position to act on and change the system, and that's going to require a massive upending of the continent's political balance.
Even if everyone else at the academy is all "wow crests suck and it's made my situation awful in spite of my otherwise noble and privileged upbringing" none of them are in as good a position to do anything, and as shown with her immediate predecessor you need to be extremely guarded because anybody and everybody can go and fuck you over and immediately reduce you to a puppet figurehead. And even if one country gets on board, there's nothing stopping one of the others from immediately exploiting that moment of weakness(since crests still offer a massive advantage) to assert themselves as a new dominant power. That's why the first fucking thing she did is purging her own country of corruption.
This is why nothing gets done in any scenario without Edelgard tearing down the system even if she herself doesn't get to be the one standing at the end to reconstruct it. Dimitri is basically just Chrom with more trauma and eats weeds instead of unpeeled oranges, and is otherwise can't do shit without the opportunity to react against Edelgard, and Claude's ability to scheme and manipulate is massively overhyped since he rivals Ike for basically falling upwards conveniently into all the shit he needs to solve the game's conflict.
Arguing that war is bad or her methods are too extreme is valid, but saying that she did it for no reason is a strawman constructed by a retard.
