If one isn't clearly better than the other I will go with one that pulls for the better talent pool. English VA pool is super shallow so aside from a few skilled people who end up in everything and have almost no range, you are left with a bunch of "who" with varying skill. Like I said the dub is fine but there are a few voice that just aren't good in my opinion. With the sub there isn't one character who I can say I really dislike, even Bernadetta, whose voice I find cute and also she sound way better after the timeskip anyways

if youre playing on hard she can be carried by the promotion gains alone (they work with a combination of echoes and other 3ds games, so her strength stat will be set to a minimum). you can basically do anything you want on hard, i made my felix a dark bishop.
on maddening the only reason you would do that would be for either the extra move or if she has hexblade. i wouldnt know, i havent checked.

I'd be down if the "reward" for this wasn't an actual downgrade on the menu screen.

Like it makes sense for the blue lions to make the monastery their base because Dimitri’s kingdom was stolen from him but it makes no sense why the other houses would want to make some destroyed monastery near enemy borders their base of operations. Or how all missions pre timeskip are BL character driven and basically filler for everyone else.
I don’t even know why the devs made all these paths when you get punished for not picking BL.

All BE students are way better if you take them out of BE. Talk to any of the after the TS and each one has a line about how the empire/edelgard ain't shit.

Edelgards route is a meme pushed by her fans, there is barely anything "important" in it. it's good for a shake up inbetween other paths since it is different story where you don't fight her. But it's pretty much villain path. Whichever path you go into from BE, you can reload and go into the other one too, so it makes a good middle path to play, since the other paths can get a bit samey.

Training her in riding and spears is a pain and having the extra warp helps in later maps. The fact that she can't take a hit becomes a bit more of a problem towards the end of the game so her having other things to do helps out.

Its decent if its the first route you play, not worth it if you've done literally any other route and know better.

Maddening really doesn't lend itself to play balls to the wall like that. You have less exp to work with and only you and the lords can attack things safely at the start. Range and chip damage is the name of the game and having a least one good tank can be pretty helpful.

Just make her wield a spear and put her in a adjutant role. Her personal makes leveling her magic easy so long as she gets her combat encounters, letting you dedicate early horse training on her.
I had the time to certify her as a fortress knight and still kept her magic ahead of the other mages thanks to that personal.

Are Ignatz and Leonie only good for being bow knights?

In Ch 6 and Ch 8 I had to soften him with gambits to hit the kill threshold. I didn’t have her in Ch.4 and it’s almost impossible to get her to B reason by then unless you’re playing GD on a new file

Ignatz makes a great assassin because his dex is so high he wants lethality anyways to make up for his raw damage, and he works as a Wyvern anyways because his passive makes up for axe hitrate
Also Leonie is one of the few characters that can get 50+ speed with pegasus knight

Ignatz is a good Assassin, stack crit on him, give him a Wo Dao, Killing Edge, Cursed Ashiya Sword, whatever. Crit Ring too, and his personal is perfect since a higher hit rate also means a higher crit rate. Yeah, Leonie's pretty much the Bow Knight character, either that or Pegasus Knight.

Leonie makes a great Flaco Knight at least in my run. Ignatz can be a good assassin since he crits like a madlad. At least in my GD run I just didn't feel the need to have more bow users when I had Claude to take care of things. Also I try not to fall into just mounting everyone up on a dragon and calling it a day.

You're never going to double with Raph so you might as well make use of his insane strength and make hi a warmaster, they get Quick repost which gurantees and enemy phase double so long as HP is higher than 50%, brawling B gives you a self heal for 50% of your HP. These togetrher ensures that Raph can survive anything as long as he makes it to the next player phase, and he can use the heaviest strongest weapons because AS wont matter anyway.
Raph as a grappler is pretty decent since you get a three hit combat at with boosted crit as a combat, essentially turning all training gautnlet+ as an infinite use killing glove.
Arguably you could go back to grappler once you got quick repoiste, you lose a decent stat block, 5 str and axefaire but at raph's strength the three hit combat art would be more player phase damage and enemy phase loses 5 might but keeps the 2 hits from warmaster
you do lose axe effectiveness against all unit types though, that hurts.

If there's something else you want them doing, this takes AWAY from their utility as a dancer. Marianne should be HEALING. Flayn is the best dancer in the game because she's a tremendously shitty unit who is recruited with a high enough base charm to win the dance contest.

Bows are lighter to reach doubling threshold, making them better for damage. The close counter is necessary for all builds and generally speaking there won't be a better skill. bows enhance the range of everyone allowing you to drop enemy hit and raise your own, it also allows more flexibility in unit positioning.

Don't get me wrong, Ferdie and Seteth are lance gods, but everyone else aren't them. Give either one spear of Assal and cichol shield (ferdie especially for these) and they'll be nigh immortal, dodge tanking everything and healing any damage back up.

Incidentally, if we went by max stats, Claude is the best lethality assassin with the highest max dex of 89.
but yea, make ignatz an assin (and dark mage) because that boy won't ever be killing anyone with his str growth.

It's because choosing a dancer is hard, most of your units will already be doing something important, so when it times comes to choose a dancer its hard to decide who to make one as you don't want to lose all that progress you put into your students. What dancer is really for is if you have a student you like or put time into that just isn't pulling their weight, making them a dancer automatically gives them a niche. Honestly I usually just make Flayn my dancer since she's shit as anything else though sometimes I just give it to units like Petra or Felix who can appreciate sword avo +20.

For me I like my dancer to be an off healer, which Flayn is great at. Since when see isn't dancing she can rescue or fortify. You don't want your attack mage to be a dancer since you want the tomeflair and extra spell slots. I guess you could meme and do dancer felix or petra. Flayn and Dorothea are hands down the best dancer since both of them are good supports with not a lot else to do.

Lindhart is weird support unit. Both him and Dorothea are designed to be mixed mages, which would be fine, but seeing as how they're in the same house it is rather redundant and makes them sort of hard to use early on. Depending on your plan for recruiting he might make a good dancer, though he will more often be healing then anything else unless you recruit someone else to be your dedicated healer.

In Maddening mode Chadnatz is by far the best support character and rally speed is the only thing that will help you survive the Death Knight in chapter 4

Dmitri is An absolute beast mounted, I might have just got lucky stat rolls but on my playthrough he rolls in, takes little to no damage with his high hp pool, and oneshots almost everything with his great mounted mobility.
