Yes, but that isn't saying much. Their competition was Joker, who should have been cool but ended up being given a generic moveset that doesn't represent how he fights in Persona at all, Hero, a swordsman only popular in Japan, and some guy who punches and comes from a no-name series because they're out of big names to add to Smash now.
If this fighters pass had leaked a year ago, I'd never believe it was real.

Nu rare is a failure since sea of thieves kinda just was there while playtonic fucked up yooka pretty bad and I doubt they would have Nintendo even consult who ever was making the game in how to make a good platformer.
Best case scenario is that rare out sources the ip to someone like the hat in time guys and they look to Mario Odyssey for inspiration to make a utilitarian moveset and apply that to a smaller area since that was odyssey's biggest downfall.
worst case, we get banjo MOBA
Either way after the awareness smash generated I doubt Microsoft will just sit on the ip for another decade doing nothing.
