DMC2 is literally the worst sequel ever made. it would've been less work to just take DMC1's engine and make a shitty watered down rehash of it

instead they did the exact opposite of everything people liked about the first game, to an almost comical level. it feels like the result of fucking sabotage, like inafune was pissed that DMC1 was way more successful than onimusha was or something and so he kept trying to kill the franchise (he was one of the main people responsible for capcom getting western devs to make games for them, leading to DmC, as well)

It's "bad" because you don't unlock any moves (you have every combo at the start, where you have to tap your direction buttons at different times to get different moves), get three swords that are the same but multiple different ranged weapons, making the game more of a shooter. The way the story is told is pretty bad because there are barely any cutscenes and you have to play both campaigns to get everything.
I platinum'd every DMC (didn't bother to S-rank 2 because the rank system is broken) and don't consider 2 to be that bad. Lucia, and later Trish, are much more fun to play than Dante (aside from one bad water level). Higher difficulties actually feel like a game, because normal is more like supereasy. Movement, which became a base for trickster, is really good, and modern DMCs still lack the wallrun that this game has. Final boss is one of the best bosses in DMC.

Actually, I'm probably the only guy that prefers DmC over DMC2.

I mean with DmC you can pretend it's DMC3 or something with combos and such.

I meant didn't S-rank every mission, because you have to constantly stay at A in combat and the decay is really fast.
The worst parts of the game are Helicopter boss the first time when you don't have any upgrades (tanks are fucking easy, retards complaining about tanks didn't find the weak spot at the top), DMD invisible underwater boss and tedious Bloody Palace. The game gets better after the first time you beat it. So if you're not gonna platinum it, you won't even find the worst parts of it.

A lot of people think that DMC2 is not that bad and that they should try it before making any critiscism out of it. I used to be one of them

because there are no reason to play it. People aren't lying to you when they tell you that there are no good aspects in this game. Dante costume and some musics are the only "redeeming" things. The base gameplay is utter shit, and killing and trying to style with the sword won't work because it does fuck all damage compared to the guns. The story makes no sense as all cutscenes are disjointed.
You don't want to be convinced, just go ahead and play it to make your own opinion, if you get the DMC collection you will at least get 2 great games to compensate this chore of a game
