The SAO games focus on social interactions in the cast. The best to start off if you want the chronological order is with Hollow Fragment (though the port on PC was pretty crap) but the best game is Hollow Realization (MMO simulator like Phantasy Star Online) or Fatal Bullet which is a third person shooter RPG.

Hallows Realization is by far the best but I recommend using a controller, you can also self-insert as the mc and have a harem if that is your jam.

I kind of wish they would take HRs gameplay and use the concept for the first half of the first season as a game, complete with 100 floors.

By the time I cleared floor 85 in Hollow Fragment I wanted to kill myself. Fuck doing all 100 since they'd all just be copy paste shit with mobs sprinkled everywhere. We don't have the benefit of a super AI to make game worlds for us like the setting.

I honestly enjoy SAO games because its the closest thing I have to .hack substitute now, but I usually never bother to finish the games cuz the plot just isnt worth it.
Dunno about this new game cuz Alicization isnt the typical vr mmorpg but if the gameplay is decent I will give it a try.

Can they stop trying to make this .hack ripoff relevant and actually work on a fucking .hack quadrilogy remake? I'm so tired of this shit.

I like the plot of Hollow Realization. It is similar to the theme in Alicization of A.I.s with sentience but instead of making Bottom Up A.I it's making top down A.I.s being self aware.

It's not any of the previously introduced characters like Philia. I'm thinking Medina (Alicization Lycoris's main heroine) will die instead of Eugeo in this timeline. The trailer has me thinking that she might have fused with her sword as Kirito shouts "Bloom like crazy! Lycoris!" and Medina's thematic flower are Lycoris flowers.

If we're being pedantic, the Kirito we knew before the War of the Underworld is most likely different from the Kirito after it as his soul was fragmented from his mental breakdown and being double coma'd and it the others have to put memories and experiences of their interactions with Kirito to fill the gaps. It's like pre-amnesia Touma vs post amnesia

user this game is based on Alicization, of course you're going to be Kirito. At best you'll be able to play as Eugeo or Alice.

From the gameplay shown, it seems that you can change characters in battle instantly. I think there will be parts that you will have to play as Alice or Eugeo
