THE RAINY DAY SESSIONS IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER

Some of you oldfags may remember some user who posted these incredibly comfy compilations of video game music mixed to rainymood called The Rainy Day Sessions. Unfortunately, they were made from youtube rips of extremely poor quality.

I've been working on a "remastered" (i.e. mostly FLAC) version of these for the last couple of years, even going so far as to create several new volumes. Right now I'm on Vol. 22 and I am still adding to the project on a yearly basis. The original version had 98 tracks, while this new version has 286 plus 34 "bonus tracks" which are mostly alternate, equally comfy versions of some songs I felt were worth including. And a friend of mine made all new covers using a consistent template.

I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I have over the years.

Here is a track list of one of the volumes I've made:

And before you tell me Aphex Twin isn't vidya, the original compilation is full of songs that have nothing to with vidya but are still comfy as fuck.

Vol. 11 - Class is Now in Session

Civil (Explore) - FTL: Faster Than Light
Downstream - Braid
Heavy Price Paid - Halo 2
Lightning's Theme ~ Blinded by Light - Piano Collections FINAL FANTASY XIII

Here is the track list for the volume of pic related

Vol. 03 - A Tall Glass of Class

Fortress Mode Theme Remastered - Dwarf Fortress / StarmanSuper00

Lost Painting - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Old Pal - Bartender
Passing By by Yiruma
Pulse - Cave Story / "New" Soundtrack
Subterra - A Boy and His Blob
The Gates of Hell - Bayonetta

I listen to these songs a lot when I'm studying or getting some work done on my computer, especially coupled with some white background noise like rainymood.

Another thing I should probably mention is that I have tweaked the track list for volumes 2-8 slightly. There were some songs on there that I for whatever reason felt didn't need to be there. I also moved 1 song from volume 1 to volume 2, but other than that the first volume is the same content-wise.

For reasons of posterity and nostalgia, I have included the original version of The Rainy Day Sessions in the download as well as the unfinished remastered version that somebody tried to make before I stepped in. That way if you hate the changes I or that other user made, you can switch out the songs at your own leisure.

In the future, I may make an update adding back the songs that remain cut to this day into the Bonus Tracks volume.

I don't know if you are the same user, but some user back in the day created a youtube playlist of vidya and anime songs as basis for Rainy Day songs to listen to. There are a lot of "classy Yea Forums jukebox" playlists on youtube but we used to consolidate it to a single one. Thanks for this, I made around 3 rainy day albums with the rainy day track mixed in.

I am not the same user, but I'm glad that exists. I had an idea at one point to throw these songs on youtube with the album covers as the video but I'm too lazy to be bothered with it.

I'm intrigued to hear more about your 3 rainy day albums you made.

It's not much, I think it might have low quality rips since I got most of the songs from youtube playlists. I'll share them when I have a chance. Here's the album cover I made for it.

>RAINY DAY SESSIONS
were these distributed in swf format?

Hahaha I love the title! I can't wait to hear what you put together.

In 2010 all the files were mp3s ripped from youtube with layers of hideous compression.
In 2014 most if not all the files were mp3s ripped from CD sources when possible.
Today in 2019 as many of the files as I could manage are FLAC. I'm still looking for a few lossless tracks and have a running list of what is still lossy. I've found some new lossless versions since the last update in May.

I'm still extracting your audio files but I'll try and upload what I have after. In the meantime, have the white noise rainy sounds I used to mix the tracks with; it's not lossless but it got the job done. a.uguu.se/cqW5MipP0a8R_rain-mix.mp3

Have a bump OP, good job.

Here’s some raincore vidya music

Here's my album. Sorry for audio quality but it was what I made 7 years a go or so.

I appreciate it but I already have the original 35-min file made by James Dueck that was included with the 2014 version. It might even be the same thing you use, not sure.

Thanks! I am already listening to it and I really like your taste. Would you mind if I poached a few of these for the future? and totally steal your "Stressed and Depressed" title?

Definitely making a note of this one, thanks. Look for it in the future!

Thanks! I really enjoy making this.

>8 gb of music
jesus christ nice

I think about 25% of it is the previous iterations of this project. I did try to go all out in the last update in terms of audio fidelity so the other 75% is about 300-odd songs in mostly FLAC. Hope you enjoy!

Sure thing user, always glad to contribute and feel free to use whatever I have in there. Thanks again for sharing your collection

You're welcome and thank you! Music is a passion of mine, and I love sharing the music I love with others. It makes me really happy to see everyone here enjoying this!

top tier based user thanks a lot

I remember these, it's how I learned about the Jazz album of Ace Attorney

youtube.com/watch?v=HMnrl0tmd3k

Godot is GOAT. I felt obligated to add more Ace Attorney tracks based on the strength of that track alone.

If you like that, check out Monster Hunter Swing and Square Enix Jazz. I think Sega might have one too, but I'm not sure.

Thanks, man! I did plenty of research for this and I am proud of the result.

Is this at all related to the VIP Mellow playlist?
It's the exact same concept but in a .swf (or HTML5) format, it loads audio tracks stored as .m4a files with the Rainymood track playing alongside
vip.aersia.net/vip-mellow.swf

I did scour that playlist for new additions and I even linked it in the Further Reading section in the README, but the creator of that had no involvement with this. The only people who worked on this iteration are me, a friend of mine who made the cover template and found new images, and my brother who took over for my friend in the last update. I take suggestions from a few other people, and I have thoroughly perused previous comfy threads and youtube playlists.

Shameless self bump

Here is the heavily modified vol. 8 track list:

Vol. 08 - Class on the Rocks
Abandoned Ship - Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire / PokéRemixStudio
Bird's Poem - Kanon AIR Piano Arrange Album Re-feel
Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Crashed Ship Frigate Orpheon - Metroid Prime
Dark Star Scherzo - Secret of Mana / OC ReMix
End Titles - Miller's Crossing
Frontier Village Dali - Piano Collections FINAL FANTASY IX
It's a Sin by Eddy Arnold - Fallout: New Vegas
Main Theme - Metro 2033
Moscow Mules - Bartender
Noumenon - Super Metroid / OC ReMix
River Flows in You by Yiruma
'Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk

The original one had some very odd choices in my opinion.

Is this video games only ost?

Mostly. The original 2010 version had a couple of tracks on most volumes that were not vidya just to give it some flavor. I have continued this trend, but I made sure to keep the focus on vidya tracks for volumes 9+. You'll also hear IRL songs that were licensed for games i.e. lots of Fallout tunes, Beyond the Sea from BioShock, a couple of tracks from the Jazz Nation radio on GTA IV.

>but I made sure to keep the focus on vidya tracks for volumes 9+.
Sorry, I shouldn't have phrased it like this. I should have said the for most newer volumes, the meat and potatoes are vidya tracks with some non-vidya peppered in for flavor.
