A lot of people think that Sora could be in Smash if they just don’t reference any of the Disney stuff from the Kingdom Hearts games, but how would that work exactly? The Disney stuff is such a huge part of his game. What would his reveal trailer be? What would his stage be? What would his character bio be? It seems impossible to include Sora without any reference to any Disney characters or locations whatsoever.
How would Sora work in Smash without any Disney references?

t.a fucking moron that has never played a Kingdom Hearts game past 1
Sora has one of the largest moveset potential out of any character even without the disney stuff
this completly, Sora has been so requested because he really would be a fun character to play as in a game like smash bros, its all about fancy movement and combos which is very fun
You play any kingdom hearts games?
The way I see him he'd pretty much work like Hero in that he has MP to expend on Limits that he has to regenerate through attacking, so Ars Arcanum/Strike Raid/Sonic Break/Ragnarok. Problem with Sora is mainly that you cannot depict him with the Kingdom Key because its keychain is explicitly a Mickey head, his very weapon is a Disney reference.
A lot of Sora’s attacks and spells don’t really involve any Disney stuff, like say Ragnarok, Strike Raid, Arc Arcanum, his various magic spells, etc. It’d be pretty easy to make a moveset for him.
My question had nothing to do with his move set. He still needs a character introduction trailer, and a stage, and a bio.
The stage is easy. There are plenty of areas unique to Kingdom Hearts that have nothing to do with Disney, like Traverse Town. His bio can focus entirely on him being from Destiny Islands and gaining the keyblade, etc. There are so many ways to do the introduction trailer that it's pointless to speculate.
>have him take out some Heartless or Spirits
>Destiny Islands, the World That Never Was, Twilight Town, or Scala ad Caelum
Easy peasy.
They could just recreate the cutscene where he gets the letter from mickey while on destiny island. 99% of the time they just call mickey "The king" anyway.
The point u smash sperglords is that sora without disney doesnt work
His moveset is the most important part because there's plenty to draw off of within the series itself that doesn't actually involve Disney. Stained-glass Dive tutorial area or Destiny Islands for a stage, intro trailer revolving around locks or some shit, do not reference Disney outside the absolute vaguest of terms (ie "new friends" to refer to Donald and Goofy).
Compared to Sora being the Mickey of his trifecta and working in tandem with Donald Duck and Goofy, and a large number of his Final Fantasy themed abilities revolving around Disney like summoning Disney characters in place of the recurring eidolons, or his weapon having a big Mickey head on it, or Sora's very design being a MIckey reference, or the vast majority of his keyblades being themed after Disney films.

Given what Sakurai recently said about wanting to continue this high score of characters in all of video games, Sora is pretty much a shoe-in.
Worst comes to worse they can just remove the keychain.
That's already going well into inaccuracy for the sake of avoiding copyright. They're nitpicky enough/focused enough on accuracy to the original series I sincerely doubt they'd do that.
Sora is a Disney character, they own hom like they own the entire KH franchise.
So if they whant to use Sora for Smash, they already need to deal with Disney, and at that point, it's more likely that they are forced to put Disney references into the game for marketing that avoid them completely, dont you think?
>sora gets in
>gets ff spirits when cloud didn't
kingdom hearts 2 ending but the note in the bottle leads to smash instead
Traverse Town, Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden, Twilight Town, Destiny Islands
This is Sora. The dull ordinary boy who can wield the keyblade
Why not just use Oathkeeper or Oblivlion?
I don't think a mickey shaped keychain matters that much when Dracula and Frakenstein's Monster already have full ass cameos.
Isn't only summons that have Disney references in Sora's movepool? All of the other things are either FF references like Ragnarock and magics or completely made up anew.
The real question is, why do people think Disney would be so unwilling to license even referencing the shape of Mickey's head?
Sorabros just hand in there, he's been concisantly reaching top of fan polls, its only a matter of time
The reality of it is that when he does get revealed, Donald and Goofy will be there along with the key chain which is enough. This is because he would come under a dual license of Square Enix and Disney interactive and those components will be added on along with it.
Beyond that everything else, stage music and gameplay will be part of the KH continuity. I have a theory that part of his gameplay will have assists like in CoM where you call someone to do an attack which where I think Donald and Goofy will come in. There might be a world battle theme medley smash remix in there and then other KH songs from each game with a handful of smash remixes kind of like the persona tracks. Stage can be anything and I'll be fine, I'm not terribly attached to one or another
I think the ebst stage is in fact Destiny Island, is one of the most iconic place of KH, the series started from it and it's a focal point in the story of all the games, also it has the most potential for design variety, unlike the sained glass circles.
Yeah, basically.
Those aren't "the" keyblade. Kingdom Key features in all promotional material featuring Sora, given that it's the default weapon and the first one you receive; same deal as Cloud using his buster sword even though he could theoretically have shown up with his Ultima Weapon or Hardedge.
Those characters are public-domain.
Feel like his final smash could be something with Riku
>Dracula and Frakenstein's Monster already have full ass cameos.
those characters are public domain my man
>Oathkeeper or Oblivlion
Because those are Roxas signature keyblades now...fuck Nomura for that bullshit.
It's more that Nintendo would most likely not want to deal with Disney on the issue, least of all considering the recent attempted Spider-Man deal.
>how would Sora work in Smash without any Disney references?
probably with a couple of the 100 OCs
Final session but in my heart I want Trinity Limit but that can't happen for obvious reasons
>This is because he would come under a dual license of Square Enix and Disney interactive and those components will be added on along with it.
This, you can't ahve Sora in a game without making a deal with Disney.
>Nintendo would most likely not want to deal with Disney
Why?
He's getting them back so...
Would you want Disney anywhere near your cash-cow?
Remember when World of Final Fantasy had to cut him months after his release as DLC? Yeah, fuck Disney. Even if they work out this aspect I don't think he's worth the trouble.
>obvious reasons
What reasons?
his keychain can just be changed to be a crown if it's that big of a deal desu
MFW I just realized there's a good chance he could be Bayonetta 2.0. You get his once and then you're just combod into oblivion.
Of course they don't have to go this route, but it would fit well enough. Maybe he'll get some air combos that only his 3 or so times. It might be cool if he could end those combos with magic attacks.
But then it's not accurate and Sakurai is autistic about accuracy to the original.
It can be the dual keyblade thing they came up in DDD and reuserd in KH3, but i don't see Riku being used as a simple cameo for his final smash, it's a waste of his character to be a single Sora assist.
Destiny island...its not that hard. If anything its pretty easy not to reference any Disney stuff.
Well clearly he would be able to cast spells, such as blizzard, fire, and thunder.
>You mean like Robin
No no no, I mean, he could be made to charge the spells. You know, blizzard, blizzara, blizzaga, fire, fira, and firaga, and thunder, thundara, and thundaga. Now I know Robin can charge his lighting but that is it, so this would be uniqu-
>Do you know Hero's moveset at all?
Fuck, I didn't think of that. Uh. Um. Well. He could hack and slash with the keyblade like he does in his own gam-
>So another swordsman?
Shit. Well no, not just another swordsman, he could be able to summon the disney rides as special mov-
>Again, WITHOUT Disney references in his moveset
Damn. I....don't know then. I cannot see how he could have a unique moveset without disney references. Maybe just make it be Final Fantasy references? Like have tonberry, cactuar, moogle, and chocobo in his moveset?
>Would fans of Kingdom Hearts, be happy with Sora referencing just Final Fantasy?
You have a point, imaginary argument I am having with myself. So I give up. Maybe he could still be unique, but I just cannot think of anything sadly.
>he could be Bayonetta 2.0.
It's safe to say we're never getting a bayonetta 2.0 or even a 1.5 ever again.
I just wanna mention that in the KH DDD CG intro, during the KH2 Final Boss recap, Sora is wielding Oathkeeper instead of the Kingdom Key
Yea, one at time without the ability to dual wielding them, but you can do that with the playable Roxax in the same DLC.
I cant even still understand why those two became the Roxas signature keyblades, what's the connection betweem him and them? Oathkeeper is a Kairi gift for Sora and Oblivion is connected with Riku...
Bayonetta 2.0 is going to be Dante, he has a ridiculous amount of stuff to work off of and would already play like Bayo
Well it's just because every KH game when you boot it, the copyright is from both of them because they are dual developers
Sora also has Stop and Magnet, not to mention his various other stuff like his Dream Eaters and what not.
Actually I have a feeling Terry Bogard is going to be the next Bayonetta 2.0. One, because in the sneak peek video we clearly see two versions of his projectile, which implies he has Ryu's tap for move, or press for move controls, heavy or light attacks, and two, he has max mode in his games, which lets him laglessly cancel special moves into each other. All of this, implies a Arsene style gauge that lets him enter a Bayonetta style where he can combo someone to hell until his gauge runs out.
>Damn. I....don't know then. I cannot see how he could have a unique moveset without disney references
Like using some of his limits from KH1, using the transformations with dual magical levitating keyblades in KH" or using keyblade transformations like KH3? Or maybe flowmotion? Shotlock? Some comands abilities from Re:Coded and DDD?
Sora has a big ass movepool, bigger than most of Smash characters without counting magics and summons, add them in and you had enough avriety to make two enterely different characters without a single repetition.
You don't say? lol
SE and Disney co-own the IP, you need to deal with both of them to add a KH character in any media.
Bayonetta 2.0 is going to be when they add a second Bayonetta to the game after Bayonetta 3's huge plot twist.
I hope it's just his final smash instead. You're making it sound like he gets a free win during higher levels of play.
People already run from Joker when Arsene is out, I have a feeling its going to be the same thing here probably. Sorry for the bad news, but with it being a fighting game character, they are going to have a gimmick to make them distinguished from Ryu. Also do you recall what Sakurai said when talking about Ryu for the first time? "As he is a fighting game character, he is a king of combos" and then showed Ryu combing the crap out of Mewtwo?
LIGHT
GIVE ME STRENGTH
Fuck I sometimes forget Disney used to be extremely based
KH's original content is fucking garbage.
If you're gonna include Sora go all in and have Donald and Goofy featured too, the mix of mid-00s brooding shonen anime with fucking Mickey Mouse is what makes the series charming.
Kingdom hearts was a mistake
>but how would that work exactly?
By not using any Disney characters?
He has a huge moveset completely independent of Limits, Summons or Links
There's a huge amount of original characters and worlds for stages, cameos and spirits
>What would his reveal trailer be?
An homage to the epilogue of KHII when he receives the letter from Mickey in a bottle, only this time it's a Smash invite
The scene is set in Destiny Islands, an original world, and only features Sora, Riku and Kairi, original characters
>What would his stage be?
Destiny Islands, Traverse Town, Twilight Town, Radiant Garden, Scala ad Caelum, Keyblade Graveyard, Daybreak Town
>What would his character bio be?
A young boy wielding the legendary Keyblade to save the worlds from the forces of darkness, or something to that effect
He already counts as Disney, so it would just be all original content plus I just know we wouldnt get FF content like Squall, Tifa, Yuffie, Cid etc as spirits so I'm okay with that
I just hope if it happened they get the KH remix of Twister and Calling from TWEWY from Square thou
>Moveset
No Disney or FF needed
>Spirits
Would be characters only original to the game like the heartless, Riku, Roxas, Aqua etc
>Stages
Original world, Twilight town with maybe some NPCs cheering in the back, I prefer Hollow Bastion or World That Never Was but Twilight town would be the most likely
>reveal
Kh2 ending with the bottle message, although it would be nice if it was Smash characters fighting the dark possessed Smash characters then Sora comes from the light in the sky like a summon
>Bio
Kid chosen by the keyblade to eliminate darkness in multiple worlds using power of light
>implying moves have to be unique when we have Joker, Hero, & Banjo
>implying Hero's charge is anything special when you debunk your own strawman by referencing Robin
>implying Hero isn't just another swordsman but with Robin's spells or Joker with borrowed moves
>forgetting stop, aero, magnet, water, baloon, dream eaters, form changes, shotlock, & his keyblade specials like ars & ragnarok
Why did you waste your time typing all that out?
they could also just use a different keyblade, like the oathkeeper or something
i hate that i can never get him now
The problem isn't that "Disney gets involved because Kingdom Hearts representation can't exist with Disney references."
It's "Disney shares the rights to Sora as a character with Square Enix so you have to deal with the mouse to have him in anything."
>into oblivion
Nice.
you are the mistake
Doesn't Disney own Sora, though?
>implying
Just off the top of my head exclusively for KH1 Sora
>normals can be charged to turn into one of his finishers: Side: Gravity Break, Down/Up: Ripple Drive
>Neutral: I'm actually drawing a bit of a blank here
>Side Special: Sonic Blade (if charged can do up to three, enabling you to manually switch direction when grouned. Airborne covers more distance)
>Up Special: Aerial Sweep
>Down Special: Opens up a command list like Hero to select non-randomised spells from: Fire, Blizzard, Thunder and Aero
>Final Smash: Zantetsuken as trigger, if it connects leads to Ars Arcanum
Everything in Kingdom Hearts is awkwardly split between the two companies.
There's the black and white factors like Disney Worlds vs OC worlds.
But there's shit like Sora, the character, is owned by Disney. But the likeness of him is owned by Square Enix and that's why Nomura makes a new outfit for him, Riku, and Kairi almost every game.
No, Disney owns Sora and all the original Kingdom Hearts content, but lets Nomura maintain creative control as a courtesy.
For some reason I am reminded of those animators that drew porn of Disney characters so that the company would own it, stashed away in their vault.
>I don't think a mickey shaped keychain matters that much when Dracula and Frakenstein's Monster already have full ass cameos
>NeutB
>Fire
>SideB
>Ice
>UpB
>Aero
>DownB
>Thunder
Sora has four Arrows
>>>>
When he hits with Smash attack four times, he ends up with Hammer, which only increases knockback
When he hits with aerial attack four time, he ends up with claw, which has weaker attacks but increases hitstun
When he hits with magic attack four times, he will have mirage staff, which has weaker attacks but all Smash attacks will have magic effect + increased hitbox
>Side Smash freezes + Horizontal hitbox
>Up Smash has windbox
>Down Smash has electric effects+increased hitstun+Additional vertical hitbox
When he parries four times, Shield mode, which gives him Hyper Armor in every Smash attacks
Nigga have you played any kh game?
Sora is owned by disney, if they get the ok for him to be in smash, then anything goes if they wanted to.
What if he only played KHuX?
I agree. If they can't get the Disney stuff in, don't even bother. That's like the whole point of Kingdom Hearts.
On the other hand, if they did get the Disney stuff in, that would be pretty hype. Perfect opportunity to do so.
People who say Sora needs Disney content probably aren't even familiar with the series. Aside from Donald, Goofy, Mickey and a few other choice character most Disney shit in the series is glorified cameos and backdrops. In the confines of Sora's moveset, the main point of discussion here, there really isnt a whole lot of Disney reflective in his fighting style and what there is can be worked around. It's all final fantasy spells and acrobatic style attacks. You can have spirits and a stage without anything Disney as well.
Attention everyone here
Disney JP WANTS Sora in Smash. It's SquEnix who has yet to give a yes signal for his inclusion
He could come with original everything, the only truly Disney thing is the emblem on his keyblade
And people just dismiss Final Fantasy even thou he literally uses the spells from it in his moveset
I don’t know if Disney owns Sora or not, but, for the sake of argument, I’ll take your word for it. Sakurai has said in the past and just recently reaffirmed that only characters who originated in video games could appear in Smash. So if the only way they can get Sora is by also taking other Disney characters that didn’t originate in games, then that means no Sora in Smash.
Shadow, Dusk, Kairi, Riku, Xehanort, TAV, RAX.
Dracula and Frankenstein are public domain characters, and the specific versions of them that cameo in Smash originated in video games.
It’s not that Disney would be unwilling, it’s that Sakurai would be unwilling. He’s said multiple times that characters who didn’t originate in video games would never appear in Smash.
Sora is a videogame character, that is what matter, the only non viodegame characters directly connected to sora gamepaly is the summons, and they are the most marginal part of all the KH gameplay, so it's pretty easy to remove them if they cant really be in.
Also im not sure if there are already non videogame native characters as simple guest or appearence in trophies and spirits, if i remember correctly there must be some of them in ultimate.
>You can have spirits and a stage without anything Disney as well.
>All of them are fights vs the 13 Xehanorts
>It's SquEnix who has yet to give a yes signal for his inclusion
Knowing how SE is jealous of the KH popularity over the main FF games, thwn we will probably never see Sora in any Smash game ever...
This is just another nail in SE coffin for me, FUCK SE
His moveset would be switching between various timed Drive Forms using the menu(with the blip sound effect KH is known for), with the forms being charged by attacking
>Valor
High Damage, two keyblades. Can't use magic in this form
>Wisdom
For zoning and keep away, skates around the stage. Magic is stronger
>Master
Combo focused, can chain attacks together to rack up damage. Everything is boosted
>Anti
"Punishment" for abusing Drive Forms. Increases speed tremendously, but lowers attack and defense. Gets killed easily in this form.
>Nomura posted pic related 2 days before the last Direct
He's getting announced at VGA's, around the same time Re:Mind comes out
He doesn't need it really, but the copyright is going to have square enix and Disney on it so its a situation of him getting in and having certain things on the table by virtue. Those things at least being Donald and Goofy showing up in the same vein the phantom thieves do for Joker
Moveset wise, he's completely fine on his own and the possibilities are endless
Trinity Limit can still easily be done using Riku and Kairi in place.
