Alien: Isolation is honestly as flawed as Amnesia is, I think you're just being contrarian. Amnesia isn't perfect but no other horror games of it's kind since have been able to consistently entertain without combat. The game should have been the cornerstone for others to make something greater, but sadly it's sequel and clones were lackluster.

Make a horror game with online gameplay without letting the players know it's online (should be easy duping players into playing a "single-player" game online these days.) Players have to track down objectives while hiding from enemies, but unknown to them their objectives are other randomly selected players who see them as enemies to avoid.

I love slow burn even if nothing happens as long as the story is good but I prefer horror with a more concrete payoff along with good jump scares. It Follows wasn't a great movie but it had a great jump scare

That is Fatal Frame 4 in particular. It is decent, but it came out on the Wii and only in Japan so it requires a fan translation. 1, 2,3, and 5 all came out in the West with 1 and 2 (2 also had a remake of sorts on the Wii) being released for both the PS2 and Xbox, 3 being a PS2 exclusive, and 5 being on the Wii U.
The first three are definitely the strongest and while each one is standalone they do have little nods and mentions of events that happens in prior games so I recommend checking them out in order.
The thing I enjoy most about the games is that the combat is done in first person with a camera and the closer the ghosts get the more damage you are capable of dealing to them so it really forces you to get in close and look directly at the ghosts. But yeah, the series is well worth scoping out.

I found Babadook to be a really great horror movie though, it really gives me older horror vibes. I think it's well done.
Hereditary's a bit different in that it is a shit movie if the viewer is a hyperactive moron who gets on their phone, has the lights on, or anything like that. Watching it in the dark with no distractions turns it into the best horror movie I never want to watch again.

Not the user you replied to but the Babadook reminded me of the Shining but for some reason, even though I liked the shining, I found the babadook to be a lot more tense. Also, Hereditary was great except for the ending where they felt like they needed to explain everything to the audience with the voice over. It was just like the Blair Witch Project where they added in some random side character talking about a murderer who makes his victims face the wall before he kills them because the movie originally had one of the characters just facing the wall right before the end. I know general audiences don't like to be confused at the end of a movie but this isn't a good solution.

How far do you usually get? I find that SH1 is the only one I can play through entirely each year. SH2 and SH3 tend to get dropped at some point.
As for the game I try to play yearly it is Fatal Frame 1, 2, and 3. They are pure Japanese horror and I love it.
