You will not believe me, but I have heard that one of the bonus characters is the Google T-Rex as another WTF character. Apparently, this character was included to promote the Google Stadia [As their is a Google T-Rex game planned for the system]

Also, there's plenty of documentation regarding Brawl's development (including early development and mere ideas that were never implemented). Why did they never mention Slipspace? I haven't heard of Travis as of yet. Some names I have seen thrown around are Geno, Waluigi and Akira from Astral Chain but that is about it other then Crash and the Google T-Rex

Apparently Sakurai's comment about non-video game characters was actually done to throw people off of one of the upcoming DLC characters. It's not Goku or Iron Man, but it is indeed somebody who does not originate from a video game.

At some point in November, currently slated for the 13th, there will be a presentation for the end of the Fighters Pass. It begins with a fakeout trailer for a Fortnite Mii costume, presented like a regular trailer. Sakurai then spends the rest of the presentation dressed in a Fortnite banana costume. I just thought it was surprising so I mentioned it.
There were a multitude of features cut from Brawl that haven't really been mentioned in the past. Slipspace was just one of them. Other things include:
>The Subspace Emissary was originally going to include more Nintendo enemies, such as Metroids, Darknuts, a whole slew of Kirby enemies, and the Topi and Polar Bear from Ice Climber. None of these made it too far into development as they'd only be used in a couple of stages as opposed to the Subspace Army who could be used anywhere. The Kirby enemies were cut late (they were planned to be used in the Halberd levels and the Cave) and Waddle Dee and Doo got integrated into King Dedede's moveset late into development. His side B was actually originally going to be the move he uses in subsequent installments.
