Blizzard stopped showing subscription numbers because they were dropping to very low levels, in order to not discourage potential customers from buying into a dying MMO. Similarly -and here's the crux of this analogy - Randy, or as I like to call him, Chink Chong Ping Pong, decided not to post any actual numbers because they were nothing to brag about. Any company that is wildly successful will let you and every other goy know just how well they are doing in no uncertain terms. They however cannot legally mislead their shareholders, so when things are not so good but they still need to sell their product, they use vague advertisements in place of any useful information. That way they cannot be sued for verifiable falsehoods.
