Aerial units cant go on the sea

???

I wish I could find my disc

RTS games keep trying to have naval combat and it is always shit. Don't meme arrow at me.

Naval units really only came into play during TFT campaign missions. It was a complete afterthought and doesn't affect normal gameplay at all.

Navy was good in Supreme Commander. They had tremendous range to bombard your base.

>it is always shit.

i liked aoe3's and supcum navy

this, though building shielded arty and maybe tacs was the answer if you naval player lost it

Based

it depends on the game, but yes its definately a trend

but Navy had its uses in aoe2, and RA3 had a big emphasis on water

Shit as in it's ineffective or shit as in messy and boring? Naval combat in Civ 5 had its uses, but it was tedious to do.

It's usable in multiplayer.

Because you can only use naval units on a handful of campaign maps. They aren't part of normal gameplay.

>Star Wars RTS game
>has actual maritime naval units

Warcraft 2 had naval units and resources. In 3 it's just a shitty mercenary unit for transporting troops.

>Naval combat in Civ 5
It's such a fucking meme. AI is REALLY bad at naval combat. And it's very hard to counter: if you face a big navy, land and air units are mostly useless.

Just spam battleships lmak

In fact the resource used to make water units was only found in water. The naval resource gatherer was exempted, of course, but naval combat and transport units did require oil.

I'm not sure if it's good design or not. Something different from what you'd find in modern RTS, I think.

How bout AoE?

It also helped that flying units were really uncommon in WC2.
Zeppelin/Gyrocopter and Gryphon Rider/Dragon. And the Eye of Kilrogg, I guess.
No aerial transports either.

Warcraft 2 was a much better game than 3 in all honesty.

It really wasn't.

In WC2 naval units were pretty powerful ranged units and the end-tier ones were essentially base destroying behemoths. Naval units in RTS games in general are OP compared to other units that aren't a counter to them. Although in campaign only, they are very powerful and can murder aerial units.

In Red Alert, cruisers and submarines were some of the most powerful units in the game. Especially cruisers
