I played vanilla DD on release and recently got Dark Arisen. Was the difficulty changed? I’m on normal mode and I’m flying through levels and have never even lost half my health or had any pawns die. I remember the base game being a bit harder.

Dragons Dogma is too flawed, it has the same problems as the Devil May Cry games. Fun and satisfying combat, more or less shitty everything else.
The bad enemy design also becomes an even bigger problem in DD because you cant even say its about Style and Mission ranks. The enemies mostly just stand around waiting to take a beating.

Play the story, grab the bulletin board quests, and play NG+. Then head into the BBI. Amazing time. Avoid the shitty NPC sidequests. They are hard to find, points of no return all the time, and not worth the hassle.
